Rasmus Højlund | Signed for United

Erm I think the point is, no one paid this sum of money for any of the players you mentioned at a similar age.

Two things can be right. We are over paying and He might be worth it.

Yeah, exactly this. To do the job properly you’d need to look at every player who has had a similar start to their career as Hojlund and see how many went on to be good enough to play upfront for Manchester United.

Not quite the same position but the first one that came to mind for me was an 18 year old we had with 10 GA in 1900 minutes from the wing in 13/14. Everyone thought he would be special. The next season he had zero GA and we ended up selling him for less than £10m. Making a great start for one of the worlds biggest clubs in the toughest league in the world is no guarantee of future success, let alone making a decent start for a mid-table team in a slightly weaker league.

Well Zlatan's €16 mil. in 2004 surely is comparable to todays €70 mil. but I get what you're saying. It's a lot of money - my post was merely directed to the people who dismiss him as a player/future star because of his "mediocre" stats, without looking at what is actually a standard debut season for a player in a top-5 league.

Endrick is 16 and has done absolutely nothing. He shows his talent in Brazil. Can you honestly tell me you would be happy if United paid €70m for him?

He has not looked "okay". He is one of the highest rated youth strikers. It's nauseating how United fans are upset about this. You think it's completely rational to pay €70m for a 16 year old in Brazil but not a 20 year old who plays for Atalanta?

If Rasmus was Brazilian no one would be saying shit

I think people forget that this kid is not the finished article, despite his price tag. I'm looking forward to see him improve with us, and work with Benny, who's already worked wonders with Rashford.

He's not worked wonders yet with Antony though!

Value is a bit of a fluid concept and very subjective. At the very least, we ought to wait until he’s played for us a few times before concluding he is bad value (or good).

You can assess a players value today and that's not fluid

jesus... Thought club was moving away from these mega fee. These guy will never learn
This is the exact reason clubs want to grind us for every last pennies.
New owner can't come soon enough
How did you work that one out? Qatar would buy cheap? Think about it again.

Ok just to completely kill this ridiculous idea as apparently it wasn’t obvious enough. Forget it’s United.

Let’s say Darwin Nunez hits 30pl goals this season. He then hits 30 the season after and then again the season after. Would Liverpool have got ‘value’ for their investment?

Nunez hit 34 goals before Liverpool paid that fee, its the reason the fee was high.
Even then he wasn't proven, but you can see why they too that risk.
There is zero evidence which points to the overpayment we have made.
If it works out then it cool (in the sense that the gamble paid off) however in future other clubs will know they can take us to the cleaners, but if it doesn't where does that leave us e.g see Maguire

I'm fully convinced people are living in the 90s still regarding transfer fees. Have you lot even seen what some players have gone for in the last few years?

This is a small list excluding the Mbappes/neymars/pogbas/Ronaldos etc.

What negotiating team? We start with market value, selling team say some ridiculous fee (because why not) and we end up paying few million bellow that.
And then next year fans are in shock; "Ffp problems? How? We have only 50 mil to spend? How? We can't sell players? How".

And i see that people here can't separate apples and oranges.
Hojlund can be a good signing and it is good that we bought him. Nobody is denying that. That is one topic.
But spending 10 or 20 mil more than something is worth is another topic. Tjat is just bad business. We keep overpaying players.

We clearly did not

How many on that list have actually been worth the fee?

How many of these players proved to be wise investments? There is no way the fee can be justified for a 9 league goals player

If he gets 10 league goals I'll be impressed. Away from the politics and from a more sporting perspective Hojlund and MG would add much dynamic to the teams attack. He's undeniably an upgrade on Weghorst so that is a good threshold to begin from.

Don’t know if it’s already been posted/confirmed but could he be in the squad for the Dortmund game on Monday or will we need to wait till next Saturday for the Lens game to see him playing in a Man Utd shirt?

This is great. Covered all the positions with our purchases. Any other buys will be to shore up for injuries.

He wont be available for the Dortmund game. It will be one of the two final friendlies.

if Hojlund can hit double digit goals next season taht will be brilliant and money well spent....i think his pace and channel running is really going to open up space more for rashy, garnacho, sancho and antony. might even see martial pushed out wide at times.
Going into the channels is one of the things I like the least about him. We need a striker who stays in the penalty area and uses clever movement to get goals. I don't want him in the wide areas where we already have players. Would be much more useful to have a striker who can hold the ball up and play others in on goal, which isn't one of his strengths at this point. Our lack of options up front was our biggest issue last season, not having nobody in the channels.

Regardless of the high fee for an untried striker, I feel sorry for the lad if he doesn’t hit the ground running. He is a big, strong and quick boy and I’m sure EtH will improve him given time. Rather have him than Martial as main striker.

Is 10 goals really where the bar should be for someone bought for this kind of money? Darwin Nunez scored 15 last season and is considered a flop. Haaland scored 52...

So we pay a fortune for Antony and its "you epxect proven auality for that fee not a prospect".....yet people would be delighted if Hoijlund scores 10league goals next season....eh?

Dont get me wrong, I understand the market and that £60m+ doesnt buy you the finished articles nowadays, but Hoijlund as things stand, if he does ok probably starts and/or plays in the vast majority of those league games, so delighte with a goal every 4games? I think even in his first season his goal should be more doubl that, fully expect him to be in the high teens
