So annoying that he got injured, was firing on all cylinders before that.

Looks too be struggling after coming back... also, yet again wingers and Bruno not really creating much for him.

Deserved quotes, as will be recent ones in the future.

Writing off a young player in a new league this early, while playing in dysfunctional team, is beyond stupid.
You should answer the question because hardly anyone wrote him off. Actually the player is well liked.

Its just a fact he isn’t quite yet ready to lead the line at the level we want to be at.

Some of you guys are the absolute worst. Short sighted idiots. That was one of the best teams in the world and he worked his ass off
I pray for the day when "working his ass off" will stop being excuse (not talking about Hojlund now). That will mean that we are back at the top.

People care more about being right and scoring points against each other than being a fan and supporting the club. It's why this place has ceased to be a good United forum.

Well that is far from truth now isn't it, it's not even hard to find tons of posts already doing that exact thing. And no, I will not search them for you, they are very easy to find on your own.

Saying he isnt good enough today is not writing a player off by the way

Not talking about posts like that, obviously.
Ive seen very few posts which say he’ll never be good enough (obviously you get some) but they are hardly the majority

I still don't see the natural talent but he's a hard worker and one of the few players in the squad whose decision-making isn't completely awful.

Difficult to predict whether he'll ever be good enough for United's ambitions.

Similar to when he struggled at the start you can see there’s still a player there and it will come in time, he’s very young and it’s his first season in the toughest league in the world.

His biggest problem at the moment is not getting the ball out of his feet quick enough but you can see what a smart powerful player he is when he gets it right.

Not worried, he just needs someone decent to rotate with next season.

I thought he was anonymous today. Did make a couple of good passes towards the end but other than that I didn't notice him much the entire game.

I don't blame him, though. On current showing, he is a 20m second or third striker punt who may be comes good or is sold to West Ham or Everton for 25m a couple of seasons down the line. But we, as stupid as we are, have made him our 70m first choice striker. It's mind boggling.

Hopefully, we'll buy a first choice decent striker next season and he can develop in the background. Although, I am 90% certain that he won't become a top striker. Just doesn't have the tools.

Bar probably Dalot and Onana, I don't think anybody came out of that game from our team that looked 'good enough'.

Hojlund was poor in the 1st half but much better in the 2nd. He played Garnacho, Bruno, Antony and others in multiple times with good passes. Once again though, he barely got anything in return. He lost pretty much every aerial/long ball and anything hammered into him (because we're so shit at progressing the ball) but most of the passes to his feet came back out with a pretty positive/progressive outcome. Is he the total package for us? No but his qualities are very clear if we can actually control games and play to his strengths.

He's as raw as Garnacho and Mainoo and equally talented imo but his position will be even more difficult for him to shine because he's doing a really thankless role in this current set up.

If another striker comes in this Summer I would hope it would be someone with a different skillset than Hojlund, more of a playmaking 9 who can add some cohesion to the attack.

All the same fools in here are the same heads that were writing off a developing Dalot and Onana after a few bad game. It’s a sport of development sharpness and confidence, especially at this level. Rashford has annoyed me more than any other regular starter at Utd in my 30 plus years supporting. I still acknowledge that there’s a player in there if he can at least work hard off the ball when things aren’t going well. If he did he’d probably be one of my favourite players. You have to work fecking hard to earn the right to play against the best teams. Rasmus always brings that and we’ve seen he’s fast strong and a good finisher off either foot. What more do you want from a young player? As I said above most of you would have sold Dalot years ago. You have no vision whatsoever. Maybe take a pause before coming online totally writing someone off after a few quiet games where his effort was faultless

Garnacho is quite obviously ahead of him in his development and its not even close

He shouldn't be in the same sentence as Mainoo, who is good enough to start for Barca.

Dalot isn't anything special and Onana has clear deficiencies to his game. They're good players for sure but nothing special

Not many players start out special. Salah and KDB both looked handy but really developed in their mid 20s and onwards. There’s so many examples of this. Look at Liverpool’s team there. They aren’t anything special but they have the right personality and attributes to be part of a very successful collective. Personality and professionalism is massive for that final extra push. Everyone in the PL is amazing at football. It’s hard work and clever management that is the extra few percent to become really top players or a top team

Just wanted to say you had a bit of wrong idea about said player. The rest I wasn't part of the convo
He doesn’t normally do it. So we would be splashing huge money and asking him to change his game from what has been giving him results

I'm fairness he also creates.nothing for the wingers or Bruno. All he does is try to run in behind or picks the ball up deep and dribbles into blind alleys.

So wrong. Several good passes today that got squandered and put it on the plate for Bruno against Chelsea.
He wasn't great today but his biggest issue is still that our main playmaker doesn't pass to him when the opportunity is there. Case in point today when Bruno chose an offside Garnacho instead of Højlund who had kept his line.
As long as Bruno is our number 10 Rasmus will struggle.

The pass to Garnacho was the right one. Bruno just fecked it up by waiting too long.

I think he's still shown enough that proves he was a good signing but when he did sign most of us mentioned that it was a move that came two years too soon.

He shouldn't be a guaranteed starter next year, he still has so much developing to do.

The injury came at the wrong time for him and he hasn’t been the same after he came back. He is not the finished article yet but has the right tools. I think he will be a success at the club in the long term.

If he was in our squad as an understudy to Harry Kane, everyone would be dribbling.

The problem is Murtough and Glazers forcing him to be our primary striker in every game he's fit.

The other problem is Martial just being entirely absent.

Both of these issues are being addressed with new DoF and Martial leaving.

Be patient. He's a great character and team player. He's a young leader and will come good.

Yes but my point is you have to change how you play again if you go for osimhen
That’s why you need a creative Full back, this club wants to be the best transition side but so many things are wrong with that philosophy under ETH.

We have aging CB’s who generally can’t defend wide spaces. Willy Kambwala showed today what a fast modern CB looks like, add that to two of the slowest DM’s in world football, Casemiro and Amrabat have declined immeasurably since the World Cup of 2022. Poor Kobie wants to be a DLP but he’s scared to pass the ball to either Bruno or Casemiro because they both give the ball away, Kobie wasn’t great today, apart from his goal because Liverpool closed him down quickly and he was trying desperately to plug holes mostly created by Casemiro being so slow to react to what was around him.
United need a new manager and a new philosophy, it’s so bad this year I’d even be tempted for Tiago Motto and his radical
2-7-2 formation from Bologna to be giving a chance. We need a new coach and a new style of play, Osimhen scares the best defenders, you saw him last year give VVD nightmares, Naigelsnan, Amorim or Motta are all superior coaches to ETH but make no mistake ETH is vastly superior to Southgate or Potter!

If only we had a Garethw to man manage and motivate our players, we'd probably dominate the league

If only we had standards. We kicked Lukaku out of the club for being one dimensional and he’s twice the player Hojlund is.

I might have to quote this post on every single player performance thread whenever we don't manage to win by 2 or more goals

Hojlund is fighting an uphill battle here, our play from midfield to attack is horrific at the moment. The only time we look dangerous is when a player picks the ball up deep and runs forward with it. Our passing into a forward is non existent.

But Toney was up against our defense. Not against Virgil van Dijk
This is what I was thinking during the match today though. Why was Hojlund pinning himself against van Dijk? It would have made much more sense to play directly against Quansah surely?

His all round game must improve significantly. Chelsea and today the ball was coming in to him but he wasn't able to hold it or manipulate it to his advantage. Needs to add that finesse.

Does anyone else think he should've been at the end of the Casemiro header in the first half?

His lack of experience becomes clear in situations like these where he seems hesitant about what to do.

Is Van Dijk whole defence? He was also against Quansah and Bradley.
He is Man Utd first choice striker. I don't care how old he is or how much he is payed. Man Utd first choice striker can't have excuses like "running his socks off" and "no service". He failed to deliver in any way this game. So this was bad performance. Nothing more and nothing else.
