I feel in citys team he would now be on 20 goals this season. Our wingers and 10 seem incapable of supplying him.
Was listening to Teddy Sheringham on Talksport and he said the same. The how Giggs and Beckham fed him constantly, where our wingers just cut inside and take a shot themselves. He said the lad must be tearing his hair out at times and pleading for one of them to pass the ball to him.

20 goals... so hes better than Haaland now is he? Not like he scored 10 goals last season for Atalanta and already has 7 for United

They don't hit enough diagonal through balls. Utilise his pace and power and strength.

I think he just means he’d have a lot more goals playing in a better team which is true .

We don’t seem to want to use his pace at all.
We been our dumb players around him.

It seems to be true yes, but it also ignores some of his play. Take Jackson from Chelsea for instance, look how involved he is in the build up of chances.
Anyway I think hes a good talent, I also think Garnacho is too, so we need to focus on replacing Rashford and getting other players around those 2 as well as making Hojlund a backup/rotation option

I think we have a general issue amongst our attackers where noone really knows when the pass will be played. You always see someone starting a run, not getting the ball because the player with it took an extra touch, so they stop their run and then the pass is played. We really need our attackers to get on the same wavelength.

Excellent point. Everything is in moments.

All along I thought midfielders have to make the correct pass/cross to find their striker not the other way round. He is making the moves but not being adequately fed by those whose job is to keep him fed. He has to improve but with the right service he should be shivering around 7 to 10 league goals by now.

He deserved to develop with regular minutes at another club before becoming the main striker for man united. But he has done pretty well considering how young he is and the state of our team. More importantly, he never lacks effort, and in a team full of bad attitudes, this is refreshing. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Looking forward to seeing his development these next few years.

There's a lot of doom and gloom around United but Manioo, Hojlund and Garnacho are very exciting young players. Easier said than done but if you start to bring in actual quality around them things will change very quickly.

Our problem has been we'll take too long to shift the crap around them and then replace said shit with more shit, thus not only meaning young talent remains surrounded by shit but they also turn to shit themselves.

Must be frustrating for him though to play alongside either a selfish out of form Rashord, Anthony who doesn't create and a inexperienced, though determined, equally young player in Garnacho. Bruno's been pretty useless to in creating openings for him too.

I've read that his xG for the season was something around 3.5 with 1 goal scored. Yesterday he scored with his only shot!
What also irritates me is that both of his goals came form loose balls.
7 goals from 6.7 xG I think was the last I read. Would anybody really have complained much if they told you he was on 7 goals after half a season as a 20 year old in his first year here? Could easily get in the 12-15 range which is respectable. Just some dumb luck in the first half of the season.

His UCL record is fine, it was the PL one where there was an issue. I think hes done fine overall for what I expected, the issue is he should not have been the starting no 9 and thats not his fault

We were better at creating chances in the CL. That's the main difference between his records really.

His overall play was also better e.g he got involved in the build-up more and was involved in the play which led to chances. Chance creation does not exclude the CF they are very much involved in build up.

And no consistent run of games either

Maybe his improved performances in those areas were help by the team being a more cohesive attacking unit?

And playing against weaker opposition and lower tempo games

Honestly feel for this guy when his two PL goals were ‘assisted’ by the opposition teams

Right now we need him as without him and Garnacho our high press is non-existent, but his lack of techincal ability will be a big issue moving forward. His first touch is brutal.

This. I am a big fan of Garnacho but Rashford and Antony as wide options are awful. I'd take Ripley and Wilcox like Blackburn had over those 2, a pair of bang average wingers who just knew to put their head down and cross the ball for the strikers. Shearer and Sutton thrived on this, with Hojlund's size, strength and movement I could see him excelling if we just got the ball into the box for him to attack.

Agree. There is a clear lack of understanding between our players. It’s disturbing, as it may point to conflict or at least indifference to others. Whenever we do play well, the team seems to be tighter together in an interpersonal sense. I know that’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation, but I really do feel that if there was a little more harmony within the team, we’d do a lot better. I hope the Ineos people can improve this, as Erik appears to be unable to.

I like his attitude and apparently he is well liked in the squad and someone who brings good energy and optimism. We need players like that.
The goals will come especially if we get an experienced top class striker for him to learn from, and to take some of the pressure away from him.

Weird thing to say considering where we finished in the group and where we are in the league.
Not really the PL is played at a higher tempo and Gala and Copenhagen are weaker opposition than all the clubs ahead of us in the league

Do you think we've played well offensively against the teams below us in the league then?

The Gala games were definitely played with a higher tempo than most of our PL games.

I have similar views on Hojlund as when we signed him.

Namely, that he looks a good, raw prospect and definitely has the ability to do a decent enough job now and the ability to develop into an even better one over time.

However, the problem was always that he clearly wasn't yet the finished enough product to be our first choice lead the line striker straight away. And so we needed a much better, experienced striker sharing that role rather than the likely to be always injured Martial.

If we'd signed him under different (the right) circumstances - more realistic fee, initially understudy to a senior striker, better service for our #9, etc - then he'd have had a far easier integration. As it is, he's really being thrown into the deep end - but hopefully those PL goals will ease the pressure that was ever building and he'll be able to build some confidence and go on a decent run.

Long term, I've seen enough to suggest there's definitely a decent prospect there. But no way, short term, should we have ended up with him carrying the burden of being our main / only #9 this season.

it’s because they’re mostly trying to find the best option available for themselves and not the best option for the team.

The obvious exception to this is Bruno. Rashford, Antony and Garnacho are very frustrating to play with because they’re selfish and/or stupid, but Bruno isn’t. He’s found a way to connect with every striker we’ve had. It’s one of the biggest points against Hojlund that he hasn’t established any connection with Bruno.

Bruno is looking for him too with balls over the top, slid alongside, crosses from deep…you can see at this point he’s absolutely baffled that Hojlund can’t anticipate any of his passes. With Martial and Rashford, Bruno got in sync very quickly.

Bruno wasnt looking for him enough. The stats are there. Bruno passes way more to everyone else. It has gotten better lately, but in the start of the season Bruno simply refused to pass to him.
Again when Rasmus Wind, Mathias Jensen and Eriksen have no issues finding Højlund then Bruno should not have those issues either.

He's a young up and coming cub but he's not good enough to be the main man up front yet. There's every chance he will be but we definitely need to sort out the striker position in the summer or either bring in some more creative scoring wingers.

A bit of a myth needs to be busted about his goal scoring record for us.

Yes, he hasn't got as many in the league as we would have liked and it took him a while to get off the mark. However his overall stats are below.

He has played 1744 Minute this season
Score 7 goals (5 in Cl and 2 in PL)
If we say an average game lasts 100 minutes that's a goal every every 2.49 games.

A goal every 2 and a half games is a decent return for a striker in his first season. It has always been said that top top class strikers aim for a 1 in 2 record.

Now factor in the injuries, stop start season, lack of service and how dreadful the team have been, it's actually a pretty good return.

If it was 5 goals in the PL and 2 in the CL we wouldn't be having these conversations.

Hojlund is the least of our worries IMO.

Loved his goal and performance on Sunday. He needs time but he looks ike he could become a top class player.

It's mad that we've only won one game he's scored in
