felt like he got caught offside yesterday quite a few times and not because he miss timed a run and was only slightly off side. Just times where it seemed like he was lazy in getting back in. Just stood offside. Maybe trying the Inzaghi but like just beyond the half way line instead of in the box.

First half was a bit poor should have done better but in the second he won a few battles, held the ball up well and again he’s so close to getting on the end of some of these chances but either the ball wasn’t great or he just wasn’t on the move Quick enough.

His goal, delighted for him. Was a great moment and proper predators finish. He reacted the fastest and what a good finish. Hopefully that will be the start of a goal scoring run.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I don't think it was him specifically. If anything it was everyone else like Bruno, Rashford and Garnacho, who were each offside at least once or twice through a combination of poor timing of runs and passes.

It's not blind faith if you watch the games and understand the sport though is it...
I've watched him all season. He's been 5 yards off everything as he was yesterday. Anybody thinking he's now going to be smashing them in left right and centre is naive and setting themselves up for disappointment. He's years off being ready to lead a line.

But top scorer in the Champions League and at international level?

Bruno & Garnacho has 3 PL goals, Rashford 2, Martial 1, Antony 0, so there is clearly something been very wrong with our attackers in the PL.

Every attacker is doing badly overall, but Rasmus has more excuses than any of them to be doing so, and yet is still our joint top scorer on 6 goals in all competitions, he just needs a viable backup to help take the pressure off now.

What you on about, his fee was 75 million pounds, it's not my storyline it's his own.

If you're happy with his output for that amount, that's good for you. Personally my opinion for that outlay we should have been getting more and that's taking his age into the equation as well. If he proves me wrong then that's fantastic but currently it's going to take me more than one goal in the league to be convinced he's worth half that figure.

Fingers crossed he does though because he seems to have the right passion for the club.

Sorry mate, he cost £64m!

If he reaches all his add on clauses then the fee will increase, if it does I'll be happy, because it will mean he was a decent signing.

Face it he was awful for most of the game last night. Delighted he broke his duck but his overall game & technique is not EPL standard.

Aren’t Aston Villa notorious this season for playing people offside too? Might be top in that statistic actually, they keep mentioning it all the time

Aye, absolute turtle the lad. Slower than Mata in a wheelchair.

Yeah because "isn't that much quicker than PL CBs" means "Mata in wheelchair".

Superb deduction.

Then you give sample of him in Serie A.

So you show a video were Rashford and Garnacho are in full tilt before he even gets to turn 180 and start his own running, yet he’s running just as fast as them, whilst not going full tilt himself which is quite easily established by the effort he’s putting in, and he still comes out on top of the defenders whilst not running miles ahead of them in order to stay onside as your proof that the guy is slow? Okay
Did you even read? "Example of Hojlund isn't that much quicker than PL CBs". People with eyes can see that Hojlund isn't that much quicker than most PL CBs.

Where the feck did I ever say he's fecking slow?

To be fair he is currently the joint top scorer in the CL alongside Griezmann, Haaland and Morata.

You do realise he is trying to stay onside in that clip?

Probably. If true, admittedly I gave wrong example.

Look man, I said he's not that much quicker, it means that he's still quicker but not by that much. Apologize for the wrong tone.

Anyway. A good Hojlund means best for United. I was just passing by, replying to JPRouve's question.

Of course it's hyperbole, but you can't seriously be suggesting he's not that fast. He very clearly is. And no, Serie A players aren't orders of magnitude slower than PL players, it's just a great clip of him running the full length of the field past multiple players who can't get close to keeping up with him.

He's a big lad, so his acceleration isn't going to be the same as a 5'8" winger, but his top speed is absolutely up there with almost anyone in football.

Mate. I've never said he's slow. I have eyes, too. I can see he's quick/rapid.

I said "he is not that much quicker than PL CBs". So I agreed that he's quick, and even said "quicker", but not by much. Then when you run with the ball, it will also slow down your speed (sometimes considerably) to control the ball.

It was a poorly worded statement, so I apologize for that.

It would be terrific if it encouraged Garnacho to stick more chances in front of Hojlund.

I just hope the lad kicks on from this goal.
I think Garnacho being on the right makes him pass a lot more. When he’s on the left he’s tempted to cut in and shoot a lot.

When they've declared their position, people just have to keep coming out with complete shite to entrench further.

Hojlund already has more goals for United. He's already proven more in a top league than Macheda ever did. He already has more senior international goals in 10 games than Macheda had youth international goals in 20 odd (and of course never got near actual international football).
Lad has already far surpassed anything Kiko did in his entire career. Lads an established international, has scored 1 more goal for United in far fewer games and 9 more in Serie A.
 he'll do well to have a fraction of the glittering career that Macheda had here.
Yeah mate, Macheda scored 5 goals in 36 appearances for Utd spread across 6 seasons.

Legendary player for us:nono:
All comps:
Macheda - 1.568 minutes, 5 goals, 5 assists. (impact: +8 pts PL, fun facht: take away his contributions and someone else wins the trophy that year).
Højlund - 1.564 minutes, 6 goals, 0 assists. (impact: +2 pts PL, scored a winner).

PL only:
Macheda - 578 minutes, 4 goals, 2 assists.
Højlund - 1034 minutes, 1 goal.

I'm sure Kiko could do without goals against the superpowers Finland, Kazakhstan, Slovenia and San Marino. These are the types of nations this board makes fun of Cristiano for padding against.

Lastly, I'll point out that I wasn't the one that brought up Kiko, but there's absolutely no argument he contributed a lot more than Højlund has so far.

Macheda was getting minutes in the best team in the league, surrounded by World Class players, in a functional team and managed by the greatest manager of all time.

But that is easy to forget I suppose.

I believe Emery's Villareal regularly had the highest line stats in La Liga and it's also very likely continued under his tenure thus far at Villa so not surprising really.

At half the amount of goals that Haller scored a few seasons back, to be even more fair. How did he fare in PL again?

Group stages are group stages for a reason.

It's totally fine to be conservative with how productive and useful Hojlund can be for us at this time and moment but to use that example to 'put into context' is baffling.

Comparing an all time record from an experienced 28 year old against a 20 year old in his debut CL and PL season is just harsh. Then to say he's still got to do a lot more to be compared to Macheda is even more of a wild take, if you don't take into context of the time this current Utd team is at compared to the Fergie years.

Just say you don't like him and move on. It'll be easier for everyone.

It took him half a season to score his first goal.... and it still wasn't from any United's players assist, rather an "assist" from an Aston Villa player. #facepalm

He really wasn't. On the contrary. Really bad post, think next time before you post stuff like hat.

Please compare the teams they play / plaid for....

Came to see nice posts on his 1st PL goal and overall a good game only to witness shitting on him.

Never change redcafe.

Dunno why he’s getting a lot of hate. You have to think, if he’s in city’s team he probably has over 10 goals now. Our wingers are kind of selfish and look to score rather than pass. There was a moment the other week when Hojlund was open in the box and Dalot decided to shoot instead of square it.

What does that tell you… how can he score from an assist when we have greedy wingers whose first thoughts are to score.

I usually agree with most of your posts - and I definitely agree that he was not awful - but I’ve seen him play much, much better, when he doesn’t score.

Obviously delighted he scored, and would take a poorer game from him, where he scores and we win, rather than him playing well and not scoring and us losing (which has happened a few times this season).

He’s definitely not as confident as he was when he first came so I really hope this boosts his confidence and the goals keep coming!

Where are all these hateful comments?

He's clearly not getting any hate. Pogba got hate. Martial gets hate. Even Rashford and McTominay get hate. People call them names and all sorts and genuinely seem to despise them for various reasons.

Haven't seen anything of the sort with Hojlund. People just don't think he isn't good enough or alternatively, not a good fit for Untied. Why you interpret that as hate is baffling.

You're also answering your own question. Maybe he gets 10 in City's team with wingers who look to provide. But he's not in city's team. He's in United's team where we have wingers who have never been renowned for providing assists and creating for others. Why he was brought here is a mystery.

Certainly not his fault and he doesn't deserve any hate, but he's also not getting any hate.

Very fair post. Its just not clear he really suits how we play. Another bizarre ETH signing. Having obsessed with Antony, a one dimensional player who is not that fast, cannot get to the byline and cannot whip in crosses. Then we have Rashford who is at his best driving into box and shooting, not renowned for crossing or link play. Surely ETH knew all this. Add the likes of Onana and Mount into the mix. The whole thing is bizarre and ultimately why I expect ETH to be sacked and also that he deserves to be. He just seems to have no clue as to what type of team he is building.

He had better games, but he certainly wasnt awful. Also that comment about his tecnhique not being PL standard is just wrong.
Him not scoring damaged his confidence surely and I agree, hopefully this will give him a huge boost. It really meant a lot of him, so much emotions after he scored. :)

He isnt there just to wait for wingers to pass to him, he's involved in a build up play, holds the ball till other players are close or in the counter or passes for a counter and so on, he isnt playing as a pure poacher who's waiting for a pass or a cross. So that's why he was brought. ETH has his faults with transfers, Hojlund isnt one.

Ok maybe hate was the wrong word, I should have used criticism. Why’s he getting criticised when he’s feeding off scraps and creating his own goals. You’re right it isn’t his fault, it’s the board and ETH. If they bring in a ST like that then they need to bring in wide playmakers… people who are gonna create a ton for him. He’s only 20 years old so he certainly can’t be written off yet. Once we’re in a settled team and have a settled system, I’m sure he’ll thrive.

Yeap, exactly my point

I am not sure if numbers agree, but it feels like Bruno is also not assisting [anybody, including Hojlund but especially him] anywhere nearly as much as he used to, last season. Plus Casemiro and Eriksen haven't played much this season, where they have provided quite a few wonderful assists last year
