Rashford | Villa | Loan with option to buy

Objectively, he wasn't amazing but he wasn't awful either. He was mostly good though. Especially for someone who's apparently a bad trainer and not played for weeks.
There's no apparently about it, he clearly was a bad trainer when he was here the past couple of years.

To give him credit where it is due, he did certainly look livelier and he was a threat for Villa on the left.

Yes, he didn't assist or score, but he was impressively direct and looked sharp.

Hoping he smashes it so we get either the fee or higher with another club

Absolutely. Even if he does have a decent loan spell it's time to move on regardless.

I would love to see him playing well for us again but it's obvious that there is an issue between him and the club and it's better if both parties move on.

Judging by this game, the dick riding on social media will be unbearable if he succeeds but we'll need to just block it out so he secures a big money move.
He looked lively and showed more energy/urgency in his cameo than what he's shown for the last few years.
Whether he was a bad trainer or the club needed to get rid he's certainly finished here.
Be glad to get his wages off the bill.

Amen. Will be similar to all the Sancho hype. A half decent game will get him on all the social media pages.

Hope he does well though, we get a good fee and his wages off the books.

There's a few articles out there saying we already have an agreement for Gyokeres in the summer. I wonder if that is dependant on us selling Rashford? If so, here's hoping he sets the world on fire with Villa.
As for his first Villa appearance, he looked fairly sharp, fairly motivated. He's probably internally proud of that, which speaks volumes about how badly we need to shift his wages

What’s glaringly obvious is how bad Rashford must have been for so long that his cameo performance is regarded as “good” despite it producing absolutely nothing. If a Mo Salah produces that cameo it would be regarded as a quiet dead performance.

Say what you will about INEOS, but they've played a blinder moving this guy and Sancho on.

Thought we'd be stuck with them forever.

Very lively indeed, ran a lot too, jumped as high as he could to win headers.

It will be a good environment for him, he is not guaranteed to start and will have to compete with group of players that are decent to very good which means he'll have no choice but to up his game, and he will be able to stay out of the spotlight on Manchester United, it could be a good place for him to rediscover himself, and hopefully Villa trigger the 40M option.

If that performance is considered good then the bar is very low

Jumped for a few headers which he wouldn’t do for United.

Otherwise pretty much the same. Jog around in circles, the odd ‘run’ down blind alleys, crosses hitting defenders. Also looks like a serious loss of pace.

He will play really well at Villa, sign with a bigger club and then not perform till his next contract renewal.

I think that's definitely a thing. Looks nowhere near as quick.

There is a real desire to push this narrative that Utd is just a toxic hole where all players will fail through no fault of their own and that they will leave and flourish.

It's the same reason the press were extremely loud when Sancho put in a couple of half (quarter) decent performances but you hear very little about him quickly returning to his usual bang average form.

There are obviously issues at Utd and it isn't the absolute perfect platform but we have also all seen Rashford's current level.

Seen people doing it for Antony now, highlight reels of him doing the exact stuff he did for us.

Our main issue has been our recruitment rather than the environment. However, with young players it's a bit different and I think environment does play a major part in their development. If you are laden with too much responsibility too early then a young player can crumble under pressure. It is always better to ease youngsters into the team rather than expecting them to be the X-factors in a bad team. We are witnessing something similar with Garnacho and Mainoo currently. They should be subs/rotation players to good players in midfield and attack, but because of our terrible recruitment they are expected to perform like experienced superstars.

The same happened with Rashford too. We were desperate for some panache in a bland team and Ole played him into the ground. Those injuries due to relentless games and pressure took their toll. He doesn't have the same pace and physical strength anymore and that's why he is suffering. A good manager would have to reinvent his game and Rashford would have to be willing to adapt if he wants to have a good career from here on.

probably just a response to the large contingent of united fans telling everyone he's finished....... swings and roundabouts though really

I'm starting to think I watched a different game going off the comments on here. I thought it was classic Rashford, jogging about doing not a lot.

First time I have seen him compete for a header in years!

We should all want him to do well. There’s nothing wrong with players moving on and doing well.

I dont think it was a standard performance because he was very direct, had tonnes of pace to burn and was putting up a fight.

When he was here, he was stinking up the mood. When everyone was smiling he was acting mysterious and moody, he was running down the touchline and not bothered if he gets tackled or if he does anything with the ball. Its his first game at Villa, so he will be a bit more arsed, but lets see how he continues. Hopefully they buy him. He is very stubborn with us so far.

You made up that he's proud of that performance and then went on to say that that speaks volumes, there is no need for that whole sentence.

I agree that Rashford has been underwhelming for a long period and that it's probably overdue to get him off the books, I just don't understand the need to talk him down at every opportunity. He's an academy graduate who brought so many great moments in a period where we had almost nothing to be happy about. I'm sad that it ended this way, he was supposed to be so much more for us.

People really do see what they want to see. It was just a standard modern day Rashford performance.

Its fans who have recency bias. Rashford generally responds well to being questioned. Post Jose era when he was questioned, he had a purple patch.. post WC where he seemed to be 2nd choice behind sterling, he got a purple patch.

A new manager comes in and he has the desire and energy for a few weeks.

He looks lively, he looks like he will try, then time goes on and he reverts to type.

Rashford can score 15 goals from now to end of season, nothing he can do will ever convince me to take him back.

The best case scenario is that he does well at Villa, says he’s too good for them and someone like Barcelona pay more than the option clause Villa have for him. Win-win-win.

Yeah agreed. It's a pity though. He's a good player but clearly not happy here. Villa is a step down long term. Players like Rashford have it made a step up these days but it's not like we didn't try to coax the best out of him or we dropped him when he was shite. He's been poor more than good in his mid 20s.

Looked decent enough when he came on. Hope he can do enough to convince Villa or someone else to fork out for him

Sorry, but my point was that I have not seen him that arsed and run that fast in a very long time. Maybe overall considering his debut game to now it was a standard Rashford performance, but without living in the past, that was a small level above than what hes been giving us at the start of the season.
