When we said get rid, some of you got pissed off and defended Sir Marcus Rashford.
Not worth the hassle, too much drama, get rid.

Astonishing that some posters think that people criticizing Rashford are jealous of him

If we sold Rashford without having a player as good as or better than him in our squad, it would be mind-boggling stupid, and irrational. As inconsistent as he is, Rashford is still miles better than all of our other forwards, and he likely contributed more goals and assists last season than all of the other forwards combined. The idea of selling him until we have a better player is absurd.

I find it very hard to believe the club and ETH, based on the lines he drew with Sancho and Ronaldo, would immediately reintegrate a player who turned up to work supposedly still drunk and unable to train with a hangover. That’s more damning than the player at that point.
Rooney did the same thing in 2012, had to sit out the Blackburn game (Rafael in midfield!) and was back the next game.

What’s so hard to believe about it?

Start of the end for ETH, as you say, he wouldn't just let this go, against everything he has stood for from a disciplinary point of view. Smacks of INEOS flexing their muscle in favour of the 'player' and potentially even trying to influence team selection matters by insisting he is back available immediately. If this is the case, I can only imagine that some players will sense this and have less respect for ETH than already did.

Get to the end of the season with him still having some value left and look to move him on. He hasn’t justified his weekly wage in a long time and his few and far between purple patches shouldn’t fool anyone.

He just doesn’t appear motivated to be at the club he supports so I can’t see him going elsewhere and finding that motivation.

The difference is Rashford has recognised his behaviour, apologised and keen to move on whereas Sancho did not recognise his behaviour, took to social media to call the Manager out and then refused to apologise when given the opportunity.

This is probably the feeble logic that has left Man Utd in the pickle it is in. Short-term damage control that doesn't even work, as opposed to a long-term solution. The guy is nowhere near good enough, and is an odious person. He needs to go.

 feck me, people don't half dream up some shit when left to their own devices.

This. Its really not that difficult.

It's also gonna be funny seeing the ex United players coming out against him. Most excited for Scholes (refused to play against Arsenal in a League Cup match) and Ferdinand (missed 8 months because of a missed drugs test).

I'm surprised how many can't differentiate between Sancho and Rashford's case. The moment you publicly and wilfully undermine the Manager's authority you're gone.

Also, no one really knows how many chances ETH had given Sancho over the 1 1/2 years other than the fact that he was given over a month off football to get back into the right headspace, which is more than what most employees get.

This is an obvious difference that I think people are wilfully ignoring. Certain posters wanted blood and are disappointed that the issue is sorted.

Rashford has been given three chances. Enough is enough. In the corporate world he would have been sacked. I know this is not the corporate world so United fudged a solution.
I understand the average supporter not making the connection between the treatment of employees and the culture and mood of the rest of the work force but for United to ignore the biggest characteristic (after talent) that determines success is laughable.

United don't need a Dave Brailsford figure but a Frank Dick figure (From 1979 to 1994 he was the British Athletics Federation's Director of Coaching, where he was widely acknowledged as and remains one of the outstanding sports coaches and coach mentors in the world; now a motivational speaker). He knows exactly what United would need but that is for another day.

The treatment of Rashford is exactly the chance that Ineos needed to address the culture of the club. They failed massively. They've laid down the rule which is basically "it is OK to get drunk miss training as long as you "say" you take responsibility and are prepared to be fined two weeks wages".

Wages are comparative - the overall value means nothing so let's not get fixated about the amount. There have been many occasions where I've been out, enjoying myself - a drink too many and would actually think I'll take a two week fine and apologise - however I don't , it's not the money that stops me , it's my professionalism.

I stand by what I posted here on the Ratcliffe/Ineos thread , that their investment will make no difference for a number of reasons - as they still have John Murtough at the club - Director of Football who is as incompetent as they come. I could absolutely do a better job than him. Just a reminder - "Murtough is the highest-ranking employee based at the club's training ground. His role is to find the players, oversee the scouting and recruitment system and, in short, create a fully coherent plan for future success. It is his job, in other words, to put everything in place to make Old Trafford happy again". It is beyond believable he is still there.

Yes, slate off our legends just to defend Rashford even more, that is certainly the way to go.

The club reacted very well this time by closing it officially now so that it won't derail our season even further. Then hopefully they will have it at the back of their minds when working on the squad planning for next season.

Guys a lazy cnut on the pitch anyway I think you'd cut these players more slack if they actually won stuff and where proven winners like the Ferdinand's and scholes etc.

A player is only as good as his current form. No one cares if he had a purple patch for 2 months. His overall approach is piss poor too, and his ego seems to be an issue as well.

And yet they were never lazy. That‘s the difference and this is why I’m losing hope in Rashford

I have no issues with people being unhappy with his performances, that’s part and parcel of the game and being a fan. Folk are absolutely entitled to their opinions.
But all the personal name calling stuff, the petty jibes and agendas that go on. It’s pathetic. He’s one of our own, he’s one of if not our best and he should be ‘cared for’ more by own fans - but honestly they seem to give him the most shit.
Why should Rashford benefit from being ‘one of our own’ when his effort levels and dedication are as poor as any player we’ve brought in over the years? Graduating from the academy shouldn’t get you unconditional support when you can’t even show basic levels of commitment.

Have a friend who works in Manchester Public Library and according to them Ten Hag has apparently borrowed a book on medieval torture, so those unhappy with the managers dealing of Rashford over this incident should WATCH THIS SPACE!
None of them is as dreadful as watching us play at the moment, though.

The fact he is available for selection on Thursday is a really weak stance from the club, clearly shows a lack of consequence for his action and little deterrent for future similar behaviour from the squad, previously when he went out and we had a similar issue, was he not dropped from the squad?

I swear, some of you have blinkers on when it comes to this guy. He had a 2 month purple period which covered how selfish and poor he actually is.

He's shown how unprofessional he is on and off the pitch now.

This is his level. He will never change. And we are better off without him in the team.

"A waitress told The Sun that Rashford went on a 12-hour tequila drinking spree while in Belfast and had to be put to bed after passing out at 3am. She claims the England international invited her on his night out at Thompson’s Garage club after serving him lunch.

Sarah Adair, 30, told The Sun that she joined Rashford and his entourage on Thursday night after the United striker allegedly asked her where they could go that would stay open later than 3am. “That made it clear to me that he had already made his mind up that he wasn’t going to training on Friday. He had no plans to go home that night,” she claimed.

The report adds that Rashford flew home to Manchester via private jet at 7am on Friday morning, before reporting ill for training."

A disgrace if he's in the squad for Thursday. All the "standards" talk in the bin.

I am very sorry..... We have a cultural problem within the team... We need to cleanup and this is not gonna start based on performance or quality but most importantly based on mentality and profesionalism. We should build the team on professional atletes that want to play for a team and not for themselves..... Players like Rashford, Onana, Antony, Martial, Sancho, as minimum should be asked to find a new club.....

Nobody likes a grass, Sarah.

Being available doesn't mean he'll be in the squad. It just means he's not injured, ill or sitting out due to being carded.

Let's wait with all the drama till he's actually starting the game on Thursday. Until then you're getting worked up about stuff that's only in your head.

Oh, I’m sure she was very happy to put her name to a story if it meant a few more quid. You lose all trustworthiness the moment you hawk yourself out to The Sun though. That says a lot about a person in itself.

£10K might not mean much to your average champagne socialist RedCafe poster, but when you're working as a waitress in a cocktail bar (that much is true) it could make a huge difference to her life.

Doesn't look great for him does it but god are the right wing media in the UK lapping this up. I doubt they can believe their luck, they've been waiting for this since rashford took on their government and won.

If that's true - he should be out of the club asap. And that's what he's hoping for too probably. Transfer request without actually requesting a transfer.

I think this is far from over, personally. Something is seriously wrong if he's going out getting smashed in the middle of the season. And he looks like he can't be arsed in a lot of the games this season.

Element of truth to that but available for selection also means he's being considered for the squad and I would have liked a harsher line, I.e. being banned internally for a game.

I agree it will help if he doesn't see game time but all this is prefaced with the fact it has felt for a long time like he thinks he is bigger than the club while not delivering.

You should really stop reading this after the bit in bold.

He’s already been dropped from the match day squad once. The FA cup game.

Well, if it ain't true, I guess Sarah Adair will be getting sued soon... :wenger:

The man just spent £750k on a night out in Belfast. They're jealous

We need players with ice in their veins

I don't think anyone is realistically jealous about a night out in Belfast...come on.

****

It makes you wonder how often he does this sort of behaviour but makes training so its not made public. It would explain a lot.

Well no, the optics of someone like Rashford suing a waitress over some embelleshment that The Sun probably coaxed out of her isn't exactly a great look is it?

I mean a) How would she know he had to be put to bed and b) How did she know he "made up his mind about training?" ... is she a mind reader? How did she even know Rashford had training the next day?

Only sensible outcome for all parties for the rest of the season. We're in no position to jettison one of our few remaining attacking options, and a lengthy disciplinary issue wouldn't reflect well on Rashford.

So, short term, they have to work together and see out the season. Long term, something has got to be sorted in the summer. His on field body language and performances, and off field antics, suggests either there's a personal / professional issue with Rashford, or there's an issue between him and ETH / the club.

if it's solvable then, fine, address it and hopefully he delivers one of his occasional top quality seasons next year. If it's got to the point where it's not solvable here, then the summers the time for both parties to look for an out.

But, for now, it's good for all concerned if they can reach an understanding that at least gets us through the rest of the season with all sides having some kind of an alliance.

Agreed 100%
