How are his defenders going to spin this one?

"A waitress told The Sun that Rashford went on a 12-hour tequila drinking spree while in Belfast and had to be put to bed after passing out at 3am. She claims the England international invited her on his night out at Thompson’s Garage club after serving him lunch.

Sarah Adair, 30, told The Sun that she joined Rashford and his entourage on Thursday night after the United striker allegedly asked her where they could go that would stay open later than 3am. “That made it clear to me that he had already made his mind up that he wasn’t going to training on Friday. He had no plans to go home that night,” she claimed.

The report adds that Rashford flew home to Manchester via private jet at 7am on Friday morning, before reporting ill for training."

Sounds very similar to something I did when I was a young lad.

I worked in Dublin airport duty free at the time. Was at a friends house party. Fell asleep around 4. Woke up at 6 to be in work for 7. Was absolutely hanging and half drunk.

This was before mobile phones so I phoned in sick on a pay phone in the departure area and fell asleep on a bench. It never occurred to me that phoning in sick when actually in the airport, the manager would have heard the airport announcements that are always going on in the background !

The difference is Rashford has recognised his behaviour, apologised and keen to move on whereas Sancho did not recognise his behaviour, took to social media to call the Manager out and then refused to apologise when given the opportunity.
That’s a good point. Although on a footballing point if Rashford is not good enough for the elite level eg a team that wins the league and challenges for the Champions League, which is what we aspire to be. Then shouldn’t we just use this as an excuse to get rid? Especially as he doesn’t suit ETH style of play and is more suited to counter attacking teams.

The fact he is available for selection on Thursday is a really weak stance from the club, clearly shows a lack of consequence for his action and little deterrent for future similar behaviour from the squad, previously when he went out and we had a similar issue, was he not dropped from the squad?

Rooney was back in a week after he was out on the piss in 11/12. This was less than a year after he was almost openly flirting with city.

Either Fergie was also wrong in 2011/12 or being dropped for one game is a perfectly acceptable punishment and this level of over analysis on every decision is becoming more absurd.

Well no, the optics of someone like Rashford suing a waitress over some embelleshment that The Sun probably coaxed out of her isn't exactly a great look is it?

I mean a) How would she know he had to be put to bed and b) How did she know he "made up his mind about training?" ... is she a mind reader? How did she even know Rashford had training the next day?

It's hardly out of the realms of possibility that either a) she saw the state he was in and it was a natural assumption or b) she went back to where he was staying as she was out them

And neither is it that she picked up in conversation his state of mind or could imagine based on him drinking tequila on a 12 hour binge and putting two and two together with training the next day being next to impossible due to the hangover.

Just cos he was buying tequila doesn't mean he was drinking tequila. Example, Alan Rickman in Dogma

If that's true then it's a joke he hasn't be dropped for the Wolves game as well. Sooner the club gets rid the better. Get the impression Marcus seems to think being a local lad and coming up through the system can save his backside

If she was out with them, why would she be selling her story to The Sun?

But regardless of that, and more importantly then anything else, why in the name of feck are we putting any notion of reliability in something published by The feckin' S*n?!

What next? Are we're going to start getting our politcs from the Daily Mail?

Still needs to be moved on in the summer. I know its in vogue with kids these days to talk a good game while their actions scream the complete opposite and for some reason people lap that up but I think most fans have had enough. When you are tearing it up on the pitch you get the benefit of the doubt. When you are putting in a shift on the pitch and things aren't working, you get the benefit of the doubt. When you are barely looking interested on the pitch and your behaviour off it is crap then there is a problem. When you are one of the top paid players in the world and there are a dozen better players in your league in your position there is a problem.

We're at the point now where I want Rashford to be someone elses problem.

A player is only as good as his current form. No one cares if he had a purple patch for 2 months. His overall approach is piss poor too, and his ego seems to be an issue as well.

I swear, some of you have blinkers on when it comes to this guy. He had a 2 month purple period which covered how selfish and poor he actually is.

He's shown how unprofessional he is on and off the pitch now.

This is his level. He will never change. And we are better off without him in the team.

The two-month purple period that Rashford had is better than anything any of our other forwards have ever accomplished, and they might never achieve it. His career 132 goals and 74 assists prove that the notion that he only had one good "purple period" is an idiotic fallacy. Selling him without finding someone to fill his boots would be a mistake.

He's not good enough to get away with crap like that. Man thinks he's prime Rooney or something.

Because she's a hanger on and she's after money obviously, not hard to work out is it?

And really, I fully agree that the credibility of the S*n is less than zero but we know he was there, we know he called in sick having only just got back so the shoe fits simply put.

Well, if it ain't true, I guess Sarah Adair will be getting sued soon... :wenger:
Asked for a place that's open after three and has to be put to bed at three. Classic rashy, always underdelivering!

Also, who drinks tequila for twelve hours?? That's inhuman!

We are suffering from nearly 10 years of Ed Woodward, a man who didn't have the basic foresight to realise off field success is related to performance and discipline on it.

and that's where all this stems from, because now we have players we've signed or even from our own academy with the same attitude, because its the attitude the club literally spent nearly a decade promoting. ETH is probably the first manager post Ferguson who actually has any real license to discipline players or ship them off based on football/attitude grounds rather than how much they make the club in marketing.

Although also I think this is giving Rashford an easy ride. He's championed himself as humble and a hero of the working class children of the country, then flies off to party before training because he's apparently too good for all his team mates, manager, etc. Then turns up to face the music in his solid gold Lamborghini. He's a twat entirely of his own making.

If this happens in Ferguson's day, it wouldn't even just be Ferguson who you'd have a big problem with, the rest of the players would eat you alive if you came in with anything other than an apology and your tail tucked firmly between your legs, and even then any standing of respect you commanded or had built up from any of them would be back down to absolute zero.
Spot on. Truly are/were Disneyland under WoodWard.

Excatly, and that's all we need ot know. We don't really need ot start buying into salacious headlines from The Sun as to what might or might have not happened to further analyse what went on.

Man was on a night out, man missed training, man has been/will be disciplined. From that alone you can make judgements about his current attitude/character towards to the team... trying to guess what happened on the night out is fairly immaterial.

Who's defending? Definitely not Rashford!!!

Just that giving an excuse like that comes across as a defence but a very weak one. Not really any need to split hairs on whether he bought tequila but didn't drink it. I'd be absolutely amazed if he was out til whatever time in the morning, spent 750k on drinks and didn't have any himself. Especially when we know he's drank in the past.

He bought his bed with him to be efficient

No, I mean: Is anyone defending, who is defending? Definitely not Rashford.

Dude, I used Alan Rickman in Dogma as an example, I was obviously joking

Hopefully the club hear about this and worse his punishment. Personally I wouldn't want to see him even on the bench for the Wolves game.

If we can bench Beckham and sell a GOAT for needing stitches after Fergie kicked a boot at HIM.....

We can do more with Rashford. I'd sell him in the summer regardless and also put him on a ban now. He's clearly told the club a bullshit story to get himself back involved for the Wolves game.

I also think Ten Hag has maybe been told to not make any long term decisions on players yet. Hence, why there's been so many players going out on loan. As a result of all this potential longer term planning, Rashford is back in the squad for now...

Selling him would clearly bring in benefits with FFP but any replacement is probably going to cost more than we what bring in for him and there's obviously other areas we need to look at. Do we even need to replacement Rashford (if he is sold)? What kind of player do we want to replace him with? How much do we want to spend on that?

Apparently, according to Sarah, he was carrying his own personal bottle. The “Sarah” story sounds highly implausible in a lot of ways.

Regardless, I hope he’s learnt a lesson here and/or that the club is also working with him to make sure that there isn’t some underlying issue.

One game ban and a two week fine is enough for missing a training session as long as it keeps increasing if he does this again.
It’s that bad habit of punishing someone after a mistake then going back on it after hearing the details as if he’s done it again

Question is, who are we selling him to?

No one seems to have money or they have FFP issues.

I know The Sun is a horrendous rag but this isn’t vague “sources” being quoted this is a real person telling her story to camera.

Of course she’s doing it for the money but it doesn’t make her a liar.

If Rashford’s team had any sense they would have got ahead of it and smoothed things over with her, this is incredibly damaging to his reputation.

Exactly. How to pretend that you're cool and can hold your drink? Don't let anyone know how much you are drinking!

some people here will question its even genuine

Oh by the way calling it now - this will become about Rashford’s mental health (which I wouldn’t be surprised to learn is an issue) and he will have a few months out.

Normally that would be kept under wraps but his team need serious damage control right now and will spy an opportunity.

It sounds terribly cynical but I wouldn’t put anything past PR types.

Have you been drinking?
What if he'd said he's been at the club since a kid, we owe it to him to rehabilitate him?
I was struggling for the right words, but this is what I was getting at. We don’t know what’s behind Rashfords behaviour/demeanour so you take a dim view of the behaviour and reprimand him as the club/manager has - but you take the time to understand and support him - because he is an academy grad, he’s United through and through, and because he is our best player on his day who has carried the team at times and deserves a duty of care from the club.

I've only drunk tequila once, it didn't end well. Never again!
