Rashford considering his future...

The key thing here is to hold off on the contract extension and see what Ten Hag can do over a season without committing to some absurd and undeserved pay hike that ensures his place in the dressing room for another 2/3 years.

He fits Ten Hag's plans how exactly? As winger? If Antony comes, Rashford will be down the pecking order, well below Sancho, Antony and Elanga. As CF? We don't know if Ronaldo will leave. And as I understand it we are looking to buy a dedicated CF anyway? To say nothing of his actual ability in that position. I hardly see him playing at all.

Sell him. If he stays he will become unsaleable next summer.

If this report is true I'd say next season is his last chance.
To be fair to him he only had one manager in his career who could work with young players and improve them. Jose didn't care about youth and Ole wasn't coaching at all.

ETH can be his savior if Marcus puts in the work and that's a big if for me.

Agreed, I'm skeptical as to whether Rashford can turn it around next season, but if Ten Hag decides he wants to give him the chance then so be it. The same applies to anyone else he wants to keep or get rid of I guess.

Let's say this true. It's staggering to think that we've allowed things to reach the point where as the situation stands he feels he is the one with the right to call the shots on if he stays or goes when it should be the club deciding whether he is actually worth keeping.

A Manchester lad who doesn't show any fight, specially against Liverpool shouldn't be given another chance, just run like a madman against Liverpool to show you care - but nothing.

He's all about the money and the image, as soon as the chips are down (and they will be again) he'll hide like a coward, same for all these current players, not many have shown any real fight to be given another chance.

You know if we somehow manage to be in a title race or a CL final within the next 3 years, and the race/game gets tough, they'll buckle under pressure, these same players struggle to achieve top 4 without folding like IKEA furniture.

Can you picture any of these players in the Liverpool or City team? They'd wet themselves having to win every game until the end of the season.

"A big part of his plans" :nervous:

Let's see what a decent break and some better coaching could do, but I'm not overly optimistic.
That's actually down to Rashford. Rangnick also planned to feature Rashford but Rashford made it close to impossible. He and Ronaldo were to be the main features of the 4222.

Ten Hag thinks he’s salvageable. Gonna go with ten Hag. He’ll soon tell him if his United career is over.

Think he needs the school kids to come in and save him.

But he would spin it like that, would’t he? As opposed to saying “please keep me even though my career has been in reverse for 2 years”.

Sell him. He just wants to stay and sign a fat new contract, without the performances. He uses football to finance his other off the pitch projects. At United, he will get paid handsomely and doesnt have to worry about accountability.

It’s not a binary situation though, is it? Both parties need to be happy he has a future here. All this tells us is that Rashford wasn’t sure but now he wants to stay.

His opinion can be formed completely separately to whatever opinion the club might have on the issue.

The problem been is some many players are leaving / want out he’s going to end up having to keep this waste of space

There's still a decent player in there in the right set up. He's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is, but not as useless as he's shown so hopefully ETH can get something out of him considering how light we'll be up front with Martial, Cavani and maybe Ronaldo leaving.

ETH seems to want him, and think he can be improved, so we shall see. Just please or please don't renew unless his form returns.

To add to that, no doubt this will be spun as arrogance. But it’s possible Rashford’s indecision was fuelled by self doubt. Is he good enough for United? Or does he need a fresh start at a less demanding club?

Now he knows we’ve hired a genuinely elite coach maybe he’s hoping Ten Haag can improve his game to the level it needs to be at to play for this club? Which isn’t exactly a wild notion as he’s had periods before where he’s looked plenty good enough.

This next season is surely make or break time for Rashford. I hope like all United fans he can finally step up his game and make us proud on the pitch. He will be Ten Hags toughest nut to crack though.

Back injuries are notoriously hard to receiver for any athlete. I’m hoping he’s yet to find his comfort level yet as there is a night and days difference between what he looks like now to the player he was before the injuries and overuse piled up.

If Barcelona’s interest is true, sell him.

Sell Martial and Rashford, so it can give us additional funds to get Anthony, Nunez and Nkunku.

Well the second tweet implies that the club do want to keep him, so it’s them that are calling the shots. Though you’re right that the first suggests the opposite.

Let's face it, his agent (brother) called around and no one was interested. Big season for him next year, has a lot to prove otherwise he's out on loan somewhere by January

This thread is so cynical

So what if Rashford has a PR team who frequently put out comments to paint him in a good light and who are paid good money to protect his brand, working their magic across all modern comms channels and in bed with various sports journalists who'll publish anything half-true about a United player for clicks. This time the message might be genuinely from his heart!

Someone on the Utd sub on reddit claims to have links in the media and called this to a T. Said the PR team sent it out a while ago and the journos were sitting on it until the new manager was announced.
Plus I’m pretty sure Ronaldo had decided to stay next season?

It’s almost as if these leaks are threats. Would love to wake up one day and read
“Man Utd are considering the futures of xyz (first team player) at the club” that would really be the kick in the teeth these players need. Right now they think the privilege is for United to have them.

I really don’t care who it is anymore.. now with hindsight even making De Gea one of the best paid players on earth was a mistake. His a great keeper, I think our best ever, I also think he’s attitude & desire makes him one of the few who deserve to stay. But imagine if during his last contract negotiations we were willing to lose him and instead of paying £300k plus p/w to keep him we offered a take it or leave it salary that was similar to what keepers at other top clubs earned imagine the message that would have sent to the underachievers in our squad. If we’re willing to let our best player go, what chance do they have.

It's so ridiculous. One of the worst players in the team, a man who hasn't even had a sniff of any major trophies, gets the kind of media attention befitting that of a world class footballer.

Plus I’m pretty sure Ronaldo had decided to stay next season?
That doesn't sell papers and generate clicks though does it?
Ronaldo set to stay doesn't get as much interest from United fans as Ronaldo set to leave does. Simple fact is, they know absolutely nothing

EtH is a very detail oriented individual and will absorb any and all insight when it comes to players. And he already has analyzed the current squad, it is obvious by his preparation and understand of how he thinks he'll take the club forward.

This includes Marcus. And this could include the unfiltered insights that Fletcher and Rangnick have experienced for almost 5+ months now. Marcus complained about not getting enough time on the pitch, which Rangnick easily disputed to the media. And has continuously lost a starting position to either Elanga, Sancho, or Pogba. It's a damning indictment on Marcus the football player.

People talk about Murtough about being this or that. Well the "Ole's first real test" joke has applied to Murtough about EtH or Poch. He chose EtH. Now another one will be Rashford - stick or twist. Going into the 22/23 season, Marcus will only have one additional contracted year with the club (23/24). Murtough and the club should sit on Rashford and continue to give him all the time needs to be a player for this club as he's still under contract. Make it up to him to perform and compete for a squad position, knowing there is 5 subs starting next year in PL.

Marcus is free to explore opportunities outside the club in Summer, as all players are. But I just really, really hope that the club do not extend his contract within the next year. Let him see out the next season because he, like nobody else, is a guaranteed starter with EtH. But with Sancho, Elanga, and at least one new wide forward and one center forward being scouted (e.g. Antony, Nunez), there will be competition for places.

If Marcus doesn't want to step up to the challenge and really compete and fight for a starting position or embrace an impact sub role, then he's going to be out of the club. It is up to him, as it always has been.

Rashford atm doesn't deserve a new contract. If he wants one he needs to earn it, and he sure as feck didn't do that last weekend.

Not even Guardiola could turn him into a TopTop player. If we could sell him for 70+variables, so be it.

I would be very surprised if another club would pay 70+ for him after this season. It would be quite the gamble !!
I think ETH will give him every chance next season before making a decision on him.
