Raphinha | Barca player

Well, I'd have been very annoyed if it was Liverpool signing him for 50m.
Think he's fantastic and should be a very good purchase by Bayern.

Selling Rapinha for 50M after spending 30M on Daniel James doesn't seems the smartest thing to do.

Yeah. Maybe Bielsa wants to play James and Harrison right and left and get a ton of width and sign some 8s who can actually contribute offensively apart from Klich and hope that they thrive along with Bamford with that much width and supply, but yeah, that's a serious downgrade with only 20M to show for it.

People have been slating Bielsa for not trying to come up with a more defensive plan B but I think that's basically nonsense. The real criticism should be that he doesn't seem comfortable buying players unless he's watched them for years. They were crying out for a player like Connor Gallagher but when he opted to choose Palace over them they just didn't buy one and even if Klich was healthy all the time they'd be in trouble.

I can't really fault the fact that Koch, Llorente and Firpo have disappointed too much, Koch and Llorente have more than a fluke number of caps for Germany and Spain and Firpo was really good at Betis to get the Barca move and he wasn't awful there, seemed more like Koeman hated him and they fell out.

But yeah, spending 30M on Dan James, even if his pace and desire and age suits them and just not buying a CM this summer was criminal. Also, Olise looks a better winger than James and cost 20M less.

They're very different stylistically. Coman is the better creator and Raphinha the better goalscorer. So might depend on who replaces Lewandowski (target man good for Coman, otherwise good for Raphinha).

Apparently they might just keep Coman and have all 4 wingers. They don't have an obvious backup 9 (though might replace Lewandowksi with 2 of them you'd figure, since normal players who aren't him miss more than 1 or 2 league games a season) so Gnabry could get minutes there too.

I think there's a chance Raphinha might be a proper feck off star. He's electric and doing well for Brazil too.
Well they do love their wingers at Bayern. I am interested to see if he will kick on to another level at a big club.

I am annoyed that we aren't bidding for him at that price. He'd be amazing in a Klopp team.

I think we should have bought him. I thought the same about Mahrez back in the day. Sancho on the left, Raphinha on the right. Mason becoming the ST and alternating with Ronaldo would be good next season. Just fantasising.

Bayern has a lot of wingers/wide attackers no?

Not really. We have Sane, Gnabry and Coman, the latter of which is often injured, lacks end product and is reportedly on his way out because he wants more money than Bayern is willing to give him.

I can't see there's any truth in this and certainly not at that price. Why would you sell your best player in January when you're fighting a relegation battle?

He is already 25 and his numbers aren't top class. It is winter and Corona and Bayern not desperately in need of spending that money for a winger.

Certainly not pre-Leeds, or in his first few months in the Premier League, but in the last 12 months he has played fantastic and been getting the numbers.

Pretty much all of his goals and assists last season came from end of December onwards, he scored 5 and assisted 9 in 20 games from then on. And then this season 8 goals and 1 assist in 16 games, and you could argue his assist total has not been helped by Leeds not having a fit striker and him having to carry them so far...

I'm almost certain he will step up and produce big numbers at a big club, unless he warms the bench too often.

Coman seems to extend his contract so this “done deal“ of Raphina to Bayern for €50 in January ( ) is even deader now. Good thing the source was certain.

As I often say, sources, even "reliable" ones say what they're being told. They might have had a legit intel from inside Bayern for exemple, but clubs/agents often use journalists and i might have been a strategy to extend Coman with a more reasonnable salary (even if it seems he's going to get a very good contract).

Quality player. We charged them £30m for Dan James, so they’ll be looking £70m+ for Raph.

Please add him and Tielemans to our team.

Martial is gone. Mason is a forward.

Rashford,Sancho, Raphinha, Amad isn't too much for 2 positions.

I would think about getting him in and playing Greenwood up front instead of buying a number 9. We’re not getting Haaland anyway.

His off the ball work rate is incredible too. He would be an amazing signing for whoever gets him.

Not certain, and Mason has been our most reliable winger this season even if he shouldn't be there, plus Elanga looks nailed on to be a regular pretty soon.

Sadly he can't be classed as priority, much as he looks fantastic, hopefully Real come and get him rather than Liverpool or City.

I’ve saw a lot of him because we’ve got a Leeds fan in the family and he’s very much a highlights reel player.

Gives the ball away constantly by making stupid choices, everything from ridiculous long balls to sloppy short passes, and and he’s very selfish. Particularly this year. It might be that he’d make more mature decisions around better players but he’d have people tearing their hair out if he played the same way for a top club.

The only thing consistent about him is his endless energy and desire to keep trying things. Never lets his head drop. But his head does often disappear up his own arse.

Love how he plays.

I know it's a cliche now to compare every decent winger to Nani, solely because he's one of our last really good ones before our fall from grace, but Raphinha really does remind me of him in certain parts of his game. His body feints and dribbling style are so Nani.

This. Nothing to see here. He's not good enough for a top club. Look elsewhere.

Don’t know I’ve watched him a fair few times and even though he’s not in the game all the time when he is he’s shit hot.

The run on the right hand side was great just glided over the ground made up about half a pitch then picked out a cracker of a pass to set up a goal (disallow) we don’t have wingers capable of doing all this at once.

I think you need to find another sport because that word salad above does not even come close to describing Raphinha.

I checked the title twice to make sure it was actually about him. I’m pretty sure he had a hand in all the goals today without scoring himself. He works his arse off every single game offensively and defensively. They noted he has made the most sprints forward and backward of any player this season.

And your best description of him is ‘selfish’ which is beyond belief.

I agree he never stops running. You might have noticed I said that in the post you quoted. Not sure how you’ve qualified which of my descriptions is “best”, but if you want to know which of his qualities I think is most prominent, it’s that endless running.

You don’t have to read what other people think if you believe you know best and there’s nothing more to say on the subject. But if you’re going to bother replying to someone, it’s probably worth listening to their actual views, rather than making assumptions about what they think. Those assumptions are often wrong, and indicate a misguided sense of superiority.

Yeah, I mean @Brwned ’s analysis seems pretty spot on. He does run a lot — as has been mentioned.

Most importantly though, as he says - the short sloppy passes and ridiculous long balls totally matches up with the stats. Raphinha has a pass completion percentage of 64.2%, which puts him in the bottom 5 percentile for accuracy across all wingers/attacking midfielders in the top 5 leagues!

Imagine him and Bruno in one side. You’d be tearing your hair out.

He's an all or nothing type of player. Always goes for the decisive play, takes a lot of risks. This kind of player works fine at smaller clubs that depend on them to make things happen, but at bigger clubs it becomes a matter of whether they can make enough good things happen to be a net positive, because they will have a negative impact on the team's play

IMO you and @Brwned are both right to some degree and it is abit of both. He is very sloppy with long passes, loses the ball an awful lot - like Bruno and paradoxically like Bruno has a great eye for a killer pass but a scattergun execution.

One of the hardest working wingers in Europe and I disagree that he’s selfish - he is always looking for a pass unlike a Mason or a Marcus hence he has some of the best progressive passing stats in Europe.

For me he’s destined to play in the Champions league for an elite club but the question is whether he can rein in his game and become more of a consistent decision maker pen whether he will be too frustrating to nail a starting spot at a top side. Definitely deserves a shot though and was outstanding today.

The only Leeds player I’d be interested in is Phillips.

Want him to come here. He has the same quality and talent as Nani imo.

I'd assume people would pick Raphinha over Bowen?
Fairly close one for me. I think I would go with Raphina because I think that Bowen might just be in a brief rich vein of form.

Of course they would both immediately turn to shit though if we were to buy them.
