Personally don’t think he should be paid more than Maguire, he should be matched up with him and take it or leave it.
Where is your logic? Varane‘s accomplishments speak for themselves. Would you bemoan Ronaldo earning more than Maguire?

Do you really think Maguire would want his salary cap to limit his chances of silverware?

Don’t mind if his salary is just above Maguire’s and Bruno’s. Varane is a much more merited player who deserves a higher salary.

I mean in terms of a centre back partner, just feels odd having someone come in above Maguire, I don’t mean Maguire as a barometer for the entire squad, obviously Ronaldo would get paid a lot more and rightly so.

It doesn’t matter how much you’ve won in the past, I don’t think current Varane is better than current Maguire (both brilliant though). However as I have said I don’t really mind as I’d love to have Varane here.

Ultimately I guess I’m worried that people are joining us for the pay day and not the right reasons, maybe I’m being unfair?

If people want Manchester United to start calling the shots again then we have to get back to being a club steeped in current success that players want to join to ride out that wave. At the moment, a lot of what we [have] to do is incentive driven, with talk of 'project' and our plan to get back to the top. That comes at cost if you're after the very best, most decorated players in the world. They're taking a risk coming here in their own right, so it is not all take on their part.

A player like Varane has only stumbled onto the market because of highly unusual circumstances, I didn't think I'd see the day when people would turn up their noses at us having even a sniff of a talent like that. We usually spend what we do on upcoming talents because situations like this are not there to exploit. We know Varane's strengths, weaknesses and have seen how he recovers from them. Does he really represent more risk than an unknown entity in relation to having played for a big club under the intense spotlight and scrutiny that sometimes folds highly rated players who have yet to make the big club transition?

His wages should be offset by others if they're a concern, frankly. Even in partial subsidy, get some of our non-playing earners off the books and commit that to Varane. This is not like Sanchez or Di Maria et al - Madrid have (had) no intentions of selling Varane, and if he agrees to it, he'll stay and this thread is over and done with.

I could understand the reservations if we were on top of the world and had a whole host of players of similar quality to choose from, but we don't and this is a very unique case that drops a CB we could only have dreamed of acquiring in non-Covid times right into our proverbial laps. Selling him on should be the least of the concerns. Even his wages becoming burdensome in some Sanchez/Jones-like manner should not be an issue if offset by players who are earning here right now who don't even play.

Fine if you think Varane is not suited to the PL but Torres even more so. We’d be very foolish to buy another Lindelof. One is enough thanks
my guess (and everyone here is only guessing, unless they are SAF in disguise) is torres will adapt quicker. Oh, and I said I wasn't sure if he was suited not that he wasn't

The euros have exposed him to the kind of physical and aerial play that he will have to handle in the PL. I see nothing more than a player only ahead of Lindelof by his passing and for me that’s not worth spending 50m on

Does this lad have the reputation as being a waster, doesn't work hard, and just in the game for a bit of wonga? Have I missed something? Why are so many worried he'll come here and just take the piss and be happy because he's making good money.
Well, you have to be careful with those types that have been champions at the highest level with club and country. It’s a big red flag.

It‘s like a date where you get along immediately and love being around each other: he or she is probably a serial killer.

Don't know how you did your calculations but no way it's £290,000 pw.
I even rounded it down to £350,000. True figure is upwards £360,000. Anyway I am sure the figure is with bonuses included and might not be his true salary.
If it’s Gross wages:
€12m = £10.3m.
£10.3 + 45% tax = £15m est.
52 weeks in a year
15,000,000/52 = £288,000

15,000,000/52 = £288,000

Now take 15 million, deduct 45% and see what's the net wage you will get.

Gross wages would be around 19 million to get 10.5 million net wages.

That's not how you calculate it.
419.580 € gross per week would be 230.769 € net per week if you use a 45% tax rate.
And that's the 12 m € net that's being reported.

That's exactly what I've seen reported so far, which is strange because I read he's also on £175,000 per week currently at Madrid.

I think you are forgetting there was news that Real Madrid players need to take paycut in order to help the club to sign Mbappe. So Real probably offered him lower than his current wages, the same situation with Ramos.

Varane and Maguire

You ever heard of the name Sanchez, Bale, Hazard etc. ? Actually the list is quite long and most haven't win shit.

I'm not against signing him, just expressing my concerns, if you have anything to say against my concerns go ahead. If not, I'd say guys like you are more typical peak caf. Go over the moon drooling over any big name signing, then blame everyone everything and moan like it's the end of the world if things go wrong.
If you go over back over my posts you’ll read that I think he’s slightly over rated but I want him here. I can’t look at another season of Lindelof.

Madrid spent £140 million on Hazard and he’s been injured most of the time , Varane has no previous history of been injury prone . Bale fell out of favour with Zidane because he refused to leave .Varane is 28 and hitting his peak .

to be fair, so has Rashford! and quite a few others Including Varane). I'm more interested in his club form
Rashfords carrying an injury, hardly played and plays in a system (slower build up instead of countering) thats not ideal.

Torres is fit, played every game and has looked average.

Slight difference.

I don't want United spending £50m+ unless it's a clear upgrade.

Maybe he showed better form for his club but surely he should be better again playing with internationals.

£30m as a rotation, yes.

£50m up, nah.

I genuinely hope we do this quickly while he may not be the best CB in the world?
No, however at his best he is in the top 10 with Maguire, the idea is to have an elite Spine for the next 4 to 5 years, we need to sign an elite CDM to play with Pogba or Mctominay who is vastly underrated on CAF and we need two players for every position with Baily and Lindelof as no 3 and no 4 CB it means one of Maguire or Varane would hopefully always play and both would play against top 6, Bissaka needs competition too so we can break teams down the right as well as the left who operate a low block.

Next year is all about conceding less than 28 PL goals and scoring 80+ , that’s how you win and Mount title challenges. Let’s be clear here if City get Grealish and Kane they will go back to scoring 100+ goals and they are already well served at centre back!

To be the best you have to have the best or at least elite players who fit into a pure team synergy and ethic, Raphael has shown that he has a great temperament like Jadon Sancho who I think may surprise everyone when he plays some games as no 10 when Bruno needs a rest which he clearly does. Does varane make united a better team, let me think about that, Hell yeah !

Been my dream signing for years now, think him and Harry would be fantastic together and genuinely gives me hope for the upcoming season

Seems legit

If Varane can't give an answer this week then we should move on and look elsewhere.

The story about wanting to go on holiday then talk to Ancelotti just screams he is messing is about to get more money from Real

You support Real Madrid but want United to sign your best CB. Strange.

been wanting to change that for a bit but don't know how to navigate through that settings,
I'm United Fan that supports Madrid and yes i want Varane at United.
