10 thread pages ago: omg Varane arrived for training, this transfer isn't happening.

meanwhile Maguire completes a full tour with Leicester and still took forever after that.

You weak Muppets don't deserve him. Either join the full moon gang or go hug your red flags.
They don't make Muppets like they used to that's for sure, too many 'ye of little faith' types nowadays

That's exactly what he does. Nobody in the world is that well connected. It's impossible. And there's nothing wrong with it either. However it's what he does. He follows the right people.

If you are naive enough to believe he's an actual transfer guru who knows the insides of every major club in the world then that's on you.

And let's be frank he didn't get the Sancho stuff right either. He didn't know about the one yr extension at Dortmund last summer when we tried to get him and he got the fee wrong this year.

He's a good source for transfers but not for the reason you think he is.

If you are claiming he's stealing news from other journalists and reporting them as his own then you have to bring strong evidence than just "a journalist reported this news before him".

No, I'm pretty sure he's not working on his own. He and Di Mario probably have a huge web of connections and multiple other journalists working under them and also pay a lot of money for foreign sources to bring accurate information. I don't think Romano is doing a single man job. Rather it's a full and big web of people and he's the one who talks for them on Twitter at the end.

Makes more sense than just claiming he's stealing information.

I didn't say stealing. He's retweeting and paraphrasing other people. It's what he does. However a bit like a magic trick....you don't see the prep work you only see the end product.

What you're suggesting is far far more than unrealistic than what I'm saying if you actually think about it. None of these guys are that well informed. It's impossible.

He has people who he trusts clearly. Ornstein is one of the ones in the UK as he often retweets him or mentions him.

Good luck to the guy. He's obviously very good at it as most people don't seem to realise he's not the first one breaking the news. It's often another less well known journalist.

Well that’s the whole point as he’s out of contract next summer and doesn’t look like he will be signing a new deal there.

Plus Madrid are trying to save as many cents as they can for his monstrous impending contract hence how the likes of Ramos & Varane were offered pay cuts to stay and have told Madrid to shove it.

Ah mate, totally understand why they would want him. I'm saying I don't understand why they are prioritizing Mbappe when the whole squad needs major surgery. The contract that they'll have to give Mbappe would be better spent on 3 or 4 quality players to revamp their team. But hey, it's Real's problem - I don't give a feck.

So basically a nice way of saying "stealing". Not sure how both are different in any way to be totally honest.

I also didn't say he's always the first one to break information. It just doesn't mean that since someone else broke the links first, Romano just copied it from him. Should journalists now don't report news they get because someone else posted them first?

Anyway, each to his own. I honestly see no problem with the guy. Twitter clowns keep asking him for new information about United players on every tweet he posts, he gives them what they want.

We signed Pogba, Zlatan and Mikhi without CL football. Something people should remember on here before they go around bleating about how Chelsea/City are bigger attractions than us mocking anyone who thinks otherwise. We’re a huge draw. Not aimed at you - aimed at the absolute bollocks posted on this forum by the usual self-depreciating miseries during the months of May/June.
Playing for a club in the size and prestige of our club is an honor and any player no matter the popularity of this player should feel lucky that they have been offered this honor.

PSG is signing a 35 year old Ramos and Chelsea have Thiago Silva who helped them to win CL.

We are buying a player who is 28 which is considered prime age for a CB. He has 4 CL medals ( more than we have won in our entire history). And people still find reason to moan.
Love this!!! Exactly!! People will see how massive of a signing and upgrade on Lindelof this is.

Varane, Sancho, Bruno and Maguire are all absolute top class players and winning personalities, Pellistri and Amad look great. We are getting to the stage where you just have to admire the level of recruitment. I’ve gone from dreading to see what we were going to do in the market to being entertained. it increasingly seems like we are headed in a more positive direction.

Considering the "hit rate" on transfers usually, ole and the recruitment team have been knocking it out of the park. Add Varane and wow, the hit rate will be crazy good.

True. Even Cavani ended up proving to be a very wise addition, another true winner and elite professional. Imagine having a 28 year old Cavani though

I still believe that Donny will come good too. I expect him to play more this season and his quality is evident. AWB has also been good for most of his time here.

The first post in this thread by the Daily Mail is looking remarkably accurate.

All credit to them. Dont usually say that abt Daily Mail but its impressive how they got it spot on.

I was all over this back then, was gutted we didn’t get him. Seemed like a young Rio type (to me at least.)

We’ve been waiting so long.

Same here. Kind of everyone knew how good he was going to be.

He did break the Gil Lamela swap at a time when no one mentioned it, so he does have his genuine sources.

The Daily Mail were citing Catalan daily Sport.es as the source.

Sancho announced and we are close to signing Varane? Seems too good to be true. I also heard rumours about Saul and a couple other possible midfielders. This could turn out to be the best transfer window in the post Sir Alex era.

Maguire-Varane would surely be the best CB pairing in the league.

Depends how you define hit or miss. For example is James a miss for the money (15m) we’ve spent on him. Is Maguire a hit then as with 80m spent as compared to other top CB signings VDD (75m), Dias(60m). Sure regardless of money factor, we’ve made more hit than miss for sure. But we still need to see how Sancho and Varane settle to claim they are hit.

Bruno (68m) - Hit
Maguire (80m) - good player but overpriced
Cavani (free) - Hit for his price
AVB (50m) - right for his price
VDB (40m) - miss so far
James (15m) - right for his price for backup role
Telles (15m) - right for his price for backup role
Diallo (25m+15m) - undecided until his full season
Pellistri (10m) - undecided
Sancho (73m) - undecided until his debut season
Varane (40m)? - undecided? until his debut season

Too obvious and it's been heavily linked for years and Varane being signed is the type of FM Muppet signings of years gone by.
Veron levels.
Now you have jinxed it...

To be fair, we thought the same in the 2016 summer. We brought in Bailly (Thought he would form a solid partnership with Smalling), Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba.

Not to mention Schmidfield!

Pogba's signing didn't excite me as much as Varane's signing. My excitement on Varane is up there with when we signed RVP because on paper they are the signings that could transform our defense/offense to comparable with the best in the world or at least the best in the league. Basically I was so excited with Rooney-RVP partnership as much as Maguire-Varane partnership.

Pogba's signing more like Sancho because I only see them as very talented players but still on paper they still don't/didn't transform our midfield/attackers to comparable with the best.

I think Varane would be a hell of a coup.

But I am always most ‘excited’ when we sign a player 17-21 for the first team who are already class and with bags of potential to be World Class.

RvP was also more exciting for me at the time because of that last season at Arsenal. Was obvious adding him to our squad then would win us the league.

Maguire (80m) - good player but overpriced

If he'd signed after Bruno, you'd have put 'hit but overpriced.'

Maguire still doesn't seem to get the respect he deserves amongst the United fans. For me, he is on the same level of having the same impact as Bruno has had on the club. It's just that Ole started with getting a strong defence then attack, hence why it doesn't look as fancier signing.
