I think we can all assume that they have. If mere mortals like ourselves here can thinking of it, guys paid millions of quid would have thought about it at some point. The other one is that we assumed that we never tried to re-sign Pogba when his contract had 2 years left.

They do have their own mind. These guys extending contracts and giving out big wages for undeserved players.

Then you see other Clubs spending more that it means, then having trouble financially.

Yes, he could make plays in the Real Madrid team hence can be a playmaker. But that doesn't mean he's the main playmaker in the team like I've pointed out.

What do you mean by ''make plays''?

He had a very successful career as a director on the Spanish broadway

Very good

P.S. Would very much be appreciated if someone could drop me a like, I need one more for my post limit to be increased from 3 to 5. I've only got one post left today now so it's difficult to have conversations under this limit.

Who are "we"?
United during the transfer window, the most common outcome from our transfers of this type is

"we tried to sign x, and we had agreed terms, but we just couldn't complete the deal, maybe next year"

or

" we have moved onto discussing other targets. we tried to to get x"

.

He can make plays as he showed at Ajax by playing a high volume of passes into to the penalty area with high accuracy which supplemented the main play makers in the team (Frenkie and Ziyech), hence he has been described as a advanced playmaker.

A play maker is someone who makes a progressive play, but doesn't have to be the main passer in the team.

If Varane and Camavinga end up at other clubs, Ogden and Fab have got blood on their hands. We could've done our business in the dark without too much competition. Now the whole football world is after them.
Do you think there are clubs out there who have only just thought of buying Varane +1 due to a couple of journalists?

Yeah I expect their agents stopped contacting other clubs to sound them out once they found out United were involved.

Damn Romano for telling the whole world about this.

When Dan James runs down the wing and crosses the ball into the box he is advancing play deep into the attacking third of the pitch, he is making ''a progressive play''. However no-one who follows football would describe Dan James as a playmaker. A playmaker isn't just a player that makes ''a progressive play''. You seem to have a different understanding of the word than what the majority of football fans have.

Seems like weeks since there was anything significant on this :(

I never said a playmaker is 'just' someone who makes a progressive play. But the definition of a progressive play varies from coach to coach. My understanding comes from reading the thoughts of some of the most influential coaches that have coached the game.

Well.. twitter says we are 'preparing a bid', so I guess things will get a bit more concrete in 2022, possibly 2023.

Big year ahead.

Stone is saying we are interested but Ferguson feels Zidane could intervene to get Varane to Madrid.

There are reports starting to show that Madrid will up their offer, if that's the case I am relatively sure he will sign a new deal.

Yeah it's pure muppet by the look of it

I fear that Varane is a big name commanding big money who wont provide good value for what he will give to the team. We already have had too many players in like that...De Gea for one. Plus he was deeply unimpressive in the Euros.

So was Mbappe. Whereas Shaqiri looked unplayable at times. I wouldn't judge players solely on an international tournament.

I hope we have a Plan B in the event Varane doesn’t sign. We simply cannot do without a quality CB to partner Maguire.

This smacks of another Madrid player using United to get a better contract. Ronaldo did and so did Ramos. UTD are better moving on to someone else if there's isn't much progress anytime soon.

Of course we’ll have a plan B, there’s already been a few names mentioned as alternatives to Varane like Koundé, Torres and Romero. Now whether these guys will be up to standard is another story altogether.

Both those players also left once they felt insulted by the club and that seems to be the case with Varane after being asked to take a payout immediately after they broke their wage structure for Alaba in the same position

He might end up staying but it's a very different context/situation than those previous times with Ramos and Ronaldo and there's been a lot of smoke regarding his sights potentially being set elsewhere for a few seasons now.

Finding out Real Madrids asking price is crucial ?

Us: €47 ?
Madrid: No

Us: €48.5 ?
Madrid: No but you are getting warmer

Us: oh... €55 ?
Madrid: No you are getting colder again

Incredible mate.

Like we just ring Varane, one of the most high profile players in world football and say "just keep this quiet mate, don't go telling anyone else, who might offer more money or anything"

I agree. Hope we are wrong though.

If he signs a new deal then this must take the prize (after Sancho last year) as the most boring saga ever.
