Apparently? Any source?

€1m in salaries in the first year with an increase of €200,000 per year from then onwards. A huge jump from the €12,000 he used to make at Lens. Upon arrival in Madrid he said "Estoy muy feliz" / "I am very happy".

3rd year means €1.4 per year = 1.1m GBP per year = 21500 GBP per week = €27000 per week.

Considering Smalling earns 2.6m GBP per year that's great value.

I'm gobsmacked lads, proved me wrong and fair play but that's very surprising, I'd love to know what Jones/ Zouma/ Smalling etc are on

2.6m GBP for Smalling/ Jones.

Zouma €1.44 Million last time I checked.

So they earn over double Várane? Shoot your agent kid.

TBF lots of young continental players earn peanuts.

Isco is on €2million at Madrid.
Munain is on €2million at Athletic.
Koke was on €1million till recently and even after contract negotiations earns €2million at Atletico.

That's less than Cleverley who's on €2.5million.

Afaik Spanish wage numbers are usually after taxes, whereas Cleverley's 2.5m is probably before taxes?!

Dunno about that mate.

Wow, no wonder they have to sell someone like Di Maria to get in James, they seem tight on the wages front, they are paying some of their best players the kind of wages you could get at Villa/West Ham

Yes I think that's correct, though @jojojo will probably be able to tell us, she knows this stuff.

Yes, Spanish footballer pay is normally quoted after-tax. So, Isco at €2m could be more like €4m or £3.4m. Varane at €1.2m is more like £2m and so on.

It's true though that Real Madrid aren't big payers at the squad level or even to the middle rank like Di Maria and Isco.

Athletic and Atletico don't have the money, so that's not surprising, but Isco at 2 million is a joke
But if I am right, Reals wage bill isn't that high at all, they just pay their stars like Ronaldo and Bale (and before Kaka) a huge amount of money and silly transfer fees, but the rest of the squad doesn't earn that much. Pepe was also on a ridiculous low wage before he got his new contract I believe.

I want a CB with experience, but If there would be any chance for Varane, I would take him without a doubt. Still think he has every chance to be the best CB in a few years, but Real will not sell him anyway.

I don't know how so many apparently gullible idiots manage to run these multi million dollar businesses that are football clubs, I mean if all you have to do is get your agent to plant United interest in the media in order to get a triple your money pay rise, it's a wonder any of them keep their jobs........

Ummm turns out google search is not the best resource when it comes to wages. Apparently Koke now earns 6m and not 2m like I posted previously.. :p

Credit to @Dos from newbies forum.

Hello

Thought you would want to know that Koke doesn't earn €2 million. It was reported everywhere that he would earn €6 million euros (brutos) after signing his latest contract with Atletico. He is their highest paid player now that Villa has left.

Anyone want to have a pop at him? Won't get him, but at least try?

We need an experienced leader at the back who can keep our less disciplined defenders like Jones and Rojo in line. We're lining up with a bunch of kids at the back right now. They need a daddy.

We need Benatia/Hummels/Garay anyway. Signing Varane will not take us up the level needed. He is still young and it won't help one bit playing next to others who need leaders themselves.

Garay's gone to Zenit, Benatia has joined Bayern and Hummels will leave in the next 1-2 years, but not now.

No need to unnecessarily bump this thread.... Getting him is nigh on impossible

It's either gonna be Ron Vlaar or else LVG is gonna put his trust in the likes of Rojo, Smalling or Jones to take that middle spot of the 3 man defence...Rojo looks like he may have the physical strength and athleticism too to play that role..Smallin and Jones can possibly do the job also....
There's just not any imposing central defenders out there available that would be a big improvement on what we already have so we may have to wait a year before signing another monster central defender

I believe we will in the next few games be switching back to a back 4. I hope sp anyway. The 3412 is a failed experiment that is just not working.

I also reckon we will go into the season with the 4 centre backs we have, doubt we will sign another one. 4 plus the two youngsters (Blackett & Keane) should be enough to cover 2 spots.

If it carries on that he is behind Pepe and Ramos in the pecking order than I think he could be looking for a way out.

We will get Concrete ron, if we get anybody. Hummels is our longterm target but thats for next summer or the summer after.

Why wouldn't United actually pay 600m for him when this is definetly something we NEED?

There is 0 chance of this happening. None. Just like Hummels.

We should have moved for both Mangala, Garay or Benatia. We didn't. The only other realistic option left is probably Vlaar but then again I'm not sure Villa will sell cheaply at this stage.

So after a few competitive games it's a failed experiment? Fecking hell short term ism is rife in here! Go read some of Van Gaal quotes & see if you can take any of it onboard!
Guys like you would have had Sir Alex out the door in his first few seasons.

Only the absolute best defenders can pull off a role like that. I'm thinking about Canavaro when they won the wc. You need to be fully complete.

Can't see Varane leaving but Garay would've been perfect from us, also would've fitted in nicely with the other Argies in our team.
