Trouble is, that’s something a lot of top reds are telling people to do lately whilst we are in the final remaining days of a window that to date has been a farce.

I love how anyone that's not a reactionary whiner is mockingly labelled as a "top red" these days.

Sold a dud again. No good being fit for 1/3 of a season.

Lindelof is good enough to step in for a run of games he did it very well at the end of last season. Stop pissing your pants!!

In the first half against Forest he was needed to sprint across to cover. I thought at the time he didn’t look comfortable and was half expecting his hammy to twang

Lots of clubs are dealing with injuries. What's been atrocious is our joke of a transfer window.
The window hasn't been that bad. Having your new CF, new CM, main CB, main LB, backup LB all get long term injuries is unfortunate.

A six week injury really shouldn't dictate squad planning decisions.

But I think we all know it'll be more than 6 weeks by the end of the season and that does have to be planned for.

Or we could just sign a younger, really good CB who isn't injury prone.

Sure, but that's a different matter. Varane's injury proneness is already known. Which means one of two things has to be true. Either:

1. We have enough depth without Maguire and are being overly reactive to a short-term injury, or

2. We don't have enough depth without Maguire but were planning on selling him anyway, until we got hit with an inevitable injury

Neither alternative indicates very proactive squad planning.

Lindelof will do a job alright....not a very good one though.
He's squad player now and when he was a regular starter playing alongside Maguire made him look worse than he was. Tail end of last season he filled in well for the injuries to first choice centre backs.

I really like Rafa as a player, he's a leader and a top CB but he's in his 30's, very injury prone and we need to find someone at CB who is better than Lindelof to deputise for him. It's why selling Maguire is so important, it allows us not only to do away with the worst value for money signing in our history (Antony or Sancho may yet take that title) but also bring someone in capable of stepping in much more convincingly than Lindelof. Sadly that aint happening this window, we can only hope next summer we make that move, however I don't see this squad having enough to make top 4 so we'll need to attract players happy with no CL.

You have to feel for Ten Hag really. A club without severe mismanagement gets him Kim Min Jae and this isn’t too much of a problem.

With this latest injury, I'm convinced we need a new starting centre back. He's just too unreliable at this point.

The less said about his backup, the better.

We did anyway in fairness, he can’t play Wednesday-Saturday anymore I don’t think. We apparently had Kim Min Jae wrapped up but money being tight, we couldn’t get it over the line.

How naive of us to rely on players like Varane and Shaw. I mean I love both of them and I am pretty fecking blind when their records are at stake, but ETH and the club are they as blind as me?

Yeah and McT made Fred look worse and Martial made Lingard look worse, we all know the drill. In reality Lindelof is Lindelof and he is good at times and bad in others.

This is why a player like KMJ would have made sense. We all know Varane is going to spend periods of the season out with injury and that's likely to get worse with each passing year. A player that could play/rotate with him and gradually replace him would have been ideal.

Harry Maguire's refusal to leave has fecked us over. He'll get a few games in the next few weeks I reckon. I'm almost certain he'll feck something up on the field.

And somehow we could not sell our project to Kim Min-jae, when everyone and their mother know that Varane would eventually get injured and thus offer plenty of opportunities for Kim to play regardless of form. What the feck?

He's one of a few issues we have at this time. He just can't stay fit.

I suspect he's part of the reason Maguire fancies sticking about. Why walk away, he's only now one injury to Lindelof from regular football.

Love the guy but I fear we've reached the end of the road as far as Varane being the reliable first-choice CB. There's nothing worse than seeing a guy who is world-class have his career sputter out early because he body keeps failing him.

Add a starting CB to the ever-growing list of things we need for the first eleven if we're ever going to compete.

At least Lindelof hasnt been that bad under EtH.

I’d assume Evans is in front of Maguire too, so two hits more before I really start crying.

Great player when he’s fit but that’s becoming rare these days. We need to seriously be looking at signing a replacement next summer. Kim Min Jae would’ve been perfect as well.

This is why Maguire should've been given no other option but to leave and Min-jae/Pavard/Todibo brought in. The lack of successive planing from the club is shocking but not surprising.

We'll no doubt be wheeling Casemiro out in two years when he's so slow he looks like he's running backwards.

I love Varane, brilliant player with immaculate resume, pedigree. Like him as a person, as well. But I also really don't like unreliable players in terms of availability/fitness(my personal bias). I know that's not his fault. If I was a manager or director of football I would avoid players with history of fitness issues or some potential health problems like the plague. I value availability of players a lot.

Hoped the plan was to buy a quality center back to rotate with him because of his fitness issues. But, tragically, our grotesque owners are still here and the budget has some limitations, because of FFP + cash flow under terrible club leadership. Couldn't get rid of Maguire(another problem), overall center back unit is not really good enough to compete on all fronts for highest honors, like we should supposedly do - due to various circumstances.

Without Varane, our set piece(aerial) defending is going to take a significant blow. We (usually) have only two players on the pitch who are good in the air(Varane and Casemiro). We are also physically pretty unimposing, uninspiring side which is going to be taken advantage of, in the PL definitely.

Lindelof is going to play a lot this year, it seems like. I don't really rate him as highly as some do here, but hope he positively surprises me. He's still Vidic or Ferdinand compared to Maguire - who i can't stand looking on the pitch wearing our shirt, it gives me shivers, tremors(exaggerating a bit). If Lindelof or Martinez(especially Martinez) get significantly hurt, we are truly fecked - season is practically over and there are no realistic high aspirations - Conference League football wouldn't be so bad as a result in that case.

Next year, we are definitely going to have to invest in a long term partner for Lisandro. Big money, young, very talented CB signing worthy of United(someone like Gvardiol was this summer for City). Varane could be sold to Saudis, I'm not sure what his current career motivation/desire truly is. Probably will have to buy one more, additional CB as a rotational piece when hopefully Maguire finally leaves with just 1 year left on his contract.

Then right back, possible DM - long term replacement for Casemiro(he's getting old). Press resistant ball carrier, backup/competition for Hojlund when Martial's contract finally expires at the end of this season, possibly another left back(Shaw's fitness worries me...).

Next summer could be very busy with a lot of needs, hopefully fulfilled by new owners(preferably Qataris with their deep pockets). If the Glazers somehow stay, more stagnation, decay incoming of this beautiful, legendary institution...

During the last three seasons at Real he missed eight matches due to injuries. That’s 2.66 per season on average. I wouldn’t say that he had an extensive history of fitness issues when we signed him.

Only just found out he's injured.

Feel sorry for Ten Hag, the team is crumbling around him and we've not got a pot to piss in, so we'll end up with a couple Weghorst type garbage signings to bolster the squad

You feel sorry for him? He spent 90m on Antony and 55m on Mount.

Not a pot to piss in? United have spent more than most clubs this season

This is why the KMJ signing made sense. I like Varane but he is essentially the CB version of Martial where we shouldn’t be trusting him to stay fit. Hopefully next season Saudi teams are still interested in him and we are able to sell.

Not sure I really want him here nowadays, past his best and always injured. Should've gone all out for KJM.

He managed to last a whopping 2.5 games before getting injured this season. I'm sure he also missed a pre-season game as a precaution. It's very frustrating.

Getting rid of injury prone players has to be a priority next summer.

Everyone knew Varane has injury issues. We should have over paid for Kim keeping that in mind and the fact that we have to do so to win such battles with successful clubs like Bayern.

Even if we overpaid not sure he would have joined us ahead of Bayern

Ideal situation would have been an overpriced sale to Saudi and we get in a younger, much more readily available replacement. I like Varane but his injury record is just ridiculous.
