I'd be happy to see him sold to Saudi Arabia in January if I had any faith in the club signing a replacement.
Insane
That was my take as well from it, didnt want another Sancho moment calling out his training effort. I think with Lindelof ETH knows City arent a crossing team and dont use the width that often to create goals so maybe hes playing it very safe today to go for the draw rather than get beat and learned from the hammering last season.Has he fallen out with varane too?
Evans played ahead of him for tactical reasons? Yeah something gotta be up or doesn't make sense especially as I believe he was on the bench...I'm so annoyed he didn't play. We basically bought him to play in big games such as this. He's meant to be one of the greatest in this position. At the same time, whether it's injuries or whatever it was today, he can't seem to string a run of games together.

Evans is right-footed.Guess he is insistent on Evans playing on the left as he wants someone left footed at the back. Suicidal stuff.

What? Really? I could swear that he is left footed.Evans is right-footed.
He’s clearly not fit. Bloke’s made of glass. Fantastic player when fit, but so fragile.
If he's not fit and broken, him being on the bench is weird. Eth could easily have said he's not ready and nobody bats an eyelid (unless varane goes and does a sancho ha)I can't work out what's going on with that one. Whether he's picked up another injury and they haven't assessed it yet, so don't want to reveal anything without fear of panic. Or if he has revolted against the manager or some shit. Who knows. All I know is it's fecking disappointing that he's not available. Again.
Why the feck do we have to worry about Newcastle in a cup competition when this was about our local rivals in the Premiership? Is there a tin foil hat side of me that thinks he thinks we don't win today anyway and rests Varane for Newcastle on Wednesday? Yes.
Yeah. Which is something that made his assist to Bruno earlier in the season (with his left) even more impressive. What? Really? I could swear that he is left footed.
Rumours going around that there are issues behind the scenes.
Fall out with the managerWhat sort of issues?
What sort of issues?
Saudi coming in for Varane and Casemiro is our best chance nowIf he's pissed off Varane now then he'll definitely be on an express ticket to a p45.
Dropping Varane against City for tactical reasons (when youre dropping him for one of Evans / Maguire /Lindelof) is insane.
If it was injury reasons, then fair enough. But given ETH said tactical reasons, it was bizarre. I dont see what Evans is better at than Varane.
I do think we should have looked to move him on soon, and probably should have had his replacement by now (all signs point to that ETH wanted Kim and ended up having to give Evans the chance, so thats on the upper')
Yeah, im in agreement with what youve said. Its a tough situation now, especially as we dont know everything thats going on behind the scenes. I think out of all the defenders we have, Varane is the one id start v city due to his leadership and communication at the back.It may be similar to the issue he had with Sancho, this time he used tactical reasons as his excuse maybe? Just speculating. A lot of things going on at the minute feel like ETH floundering a bit and it's all getting a bit tense. I remember towards the end of most of our managers' tenures they'd increasingly say weird statements and make weird decisions desperately trying to arrest their descent and it kind of feels like this with ETH at the minute. (not necessarily this Varane situation)
I wanted us to keep Varane and bring in a quality player like Kim to be the guy who comes in the way City rotate their defenders. We know Varane will not stay fit for the whole season so we needed a quality alternative to replace and/or play with him. Having 3 quality players for the 2 CB positions is good, especially when one is injury prone. Varane has the status, leadership and experience we need to keep in the squad and is beneficial in more ways than just on the pitch.
Last time he said somebody hadn't been performing well enough to be selected he faced a massive shitstorm, so you'd think he'd be wary of how he expresses himself when faced with a similar question...Varane's been poor, looked barely arsed to me in his last game.
So ETH calling it "tactical" to drop him was probably easier than the truth.
If he's refusing to play then out he goes in January hopefully.
