I don't have a problem with Lindelof or Maguire playing, but they MUST show the intensity, desire and will to win than both Varane and Martinez show, if they don't then I'm pretty sure they'll be on their way come summer.

Martinez is great in air, proven at Ajax. Timber is actually taller than Licha, but isn’t nearly as good aerially as him.

Martinez is showing you can be a quality defender without the height.
But it doesn't change the fact that in the English premier league you need a certain amount of height around the team.
If you have 2 centre backs who aren't tall or dominant, then you need height elsewhere. And we're already struggling as it is.

Thought we spoke about this to death. The days where teams play with a physical monster are gone. Varane isn't great in air either but he is a front foot defender.
You can get away with Martinez like we're showing, but you do still need some aerial ability.
Varane is good in the air. We missed him instantly when he was off the pitch after treatment at the very next corner v City.
Maybe the scare was greater than the actual injury, I really hope it's not that serious, Varane is a fantastic defender.
