Rangnick gegenpress conference vs Palace (H)

Rangnick on training
"Modern football in the last 10 years, it has completely changed into a more physical, more athletic, more vertical game. In order to develop teams, you need to train the bodies and the brains."
”So you see, Marcus, that’s why, after a lot of research, we’ve concluded that the best approach is to not drill the ball at the nearest defender’s legs. If anything, we should maybe even consider avoiding them.”

I was impressed when he mentioned Guy Roux at Auxerre as a similar scenario to SAF being at Utd for such a long time.

To be fair, Antonio Valencia did win a few pots with us so the science isn't unanimous.

Klopp been at Pool since 2014 = 5 years
Pep been at City since 2016 = 3 years

It’s 2022 next month.

I thought we were hiring the footballing Einstein? This guy can’t even count.

He can bring in Essien to his coaching staff

C'mon guys, he was just giving their years in a perspective, he shouldnt be accurate with those numbers. At least it proves he doesnt give a damn about how many exact years Pep is at city.

If he manages to modernize our football structure, he should have a statue outside OT. With a QR tag on its pedestal so as to reduce the hassle of using Google.

Was Essien good at maths?

This feels like the first time we've finally had someone say "you have to look past the SAF years".

Adapt or die....and we've tried very hard to achieve the latter over all these years.

Lots of people liked Oles first press conference, and LVGs... and Joses..... anyway I'm interested to see what Rangnick can do, although he is going to need some time with this team

Haha [new manager] is clearly brilliant. You can immediately tell he's [positive adjective], exactly what we've been crying out for. Such a breath of fresh air compared to [old manager] and his constant [negative adjective]. Can't wait to see this guy finally drop deadwood like [players I don't like] and get the best out of [players I do like].

Yes and without doubt will be called a fraud if we struggle in the next few weeks. This place is mental.

Someone should do a montage of all the first pressers post Fergie.

Unbelievable really! Not one question
In fairness, they did want to know though whether he really gets a 10m bonus if he lands Haaland as some German tabloid seems to have claimed, and also 'what he knows about Manchester United'.

To have an intelligent man at the helm who is not drowning in his own hubris. It's been a while.

Was Essien good at maths?

No, it started from:

"We are much better than Manchester United," said the Ghana international.

"It is just a matter of days before we are the leaders. I have done the calculations and we will finish at least five points clear of United at the top of the table."

We won the league by 6 points

You're being rather demanding, aren't you.
First you don't want to hear anything bad about him while he's your manager, then you don't want to hear anything bad about him after he's been sacked. You could just close your eyes and ears and start singing loudly, you know.
The cult of Ole remains one of the strangest phenomena in the game. I understand he’s ‘likeable’ but you wouldn’t hire an electrician, who faulty wires your house burning down your living room then say, ‘he deserves some respect’ because the bedroom wiring looks alright.
I find the Mourinho cult to be weirder. Atleast Ole had goodwill in the bank and didn't completely shatter the atmosphere.
Refreshing to hear a manager who knows his stuff, such a contrast to whatever waste of time pressers were under Ole.

Also, club haven't spoken to him about what would consultancy role entail which sounds about right for our pack of jokers

Absolutely bodied.
Alive and well:

Gloat and take the piss out of me all you want but I will defend Rangnick until the end too. Especially if he doesn't hit the ground running, as the pitchforks will be out, we all know that.

I defended Ole as there was some positives, no matter how hard some "Ole Outers" would lead you to believe.

Yes, towards the end, even I, a strong believer in giving Ole time and believing he should be kept on, felt that things were getting untenable, each and every match was a "how much are we going to lose by" match. It was the right time for things to change. Ok maybe it should've been after Man City at least. But I was passionate about the club and still am, I felt that we should invest in long term. But things were getting worse and worse, so maybe there was enough time. There was tumescent football being played and you could see glaring errors on the pitch, it seemed like no one knew what to do.

We'll never know now of course. But I am very very very excited for the future of Man Utd under Rangnick's tenure. The future of the Man Utd is a promising one.

He has the body language of a multi millionaire CEO, just oozes confidence and power.

What I want from him is to set up the team in a way that will allow our attack - which is arguably up there with any other attack in Europe - to explode on the opponent.

When teams aren't afraid to pressure us when we have counter attacking specialists like Rashford, Ronaldo and Greenwood... You know something is VERY WRONG. When teams are able to sit back and chill against us when we have some of the best passers is Europe with Sancho and Bruno - you know something is VERY WRONG.
When the full backs don't seem to bother looking for probably the best header of the ball in the history of the game (In Ronaldo), and another Top-top-top header of the ball (In Cavani), you know something is VERY WRONG.

Rangnick comes and suddenly pressers sound interesting again. I never could listen to any one done by Ole.

His comments on staying on have been completely taken out of context... But tbh, if he does well, i'd 100% give him it for another season. It'd benefit us in the long term.

Mourinho had some goodwill in the bank from this too:

Ole's press conferencea have always been shit. He always gave the most boring answers and had zero charisma in front of the camera. Mourinho and LVG were actually a little entertaining because they throw interesting quotes here and there.

I loved his comments about getting players in their first or second contract as it was much easier to motivate them. Its just what i want him doing at United, and the most optimal way of getting players playing the way you want. I think this is key if you want a proper gegenpressing way of playing.
