Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

It is going to take a bit of time before the players learn Ralf's style. I think Utd will play quite compact counter attacking football to start. I expect Ralf will try to change into a more balanced possesion game as the season progresses.

It's Ralf Rangnick, the ultimate ideologue in German football, he's not a very pragmatic football manager. He'd rather lose by a ton than compromise on his ideas. I'd be very surprised if we don't see changes quite immediately. He's had his teams playing one brand of football since the 80s, at all levels of German football. He doesn't sit back, he doesn't take a step back and he does not rest. He demands complete authority and uses that authority from day one. The football will be high pressing, high intensity attacking probably coached with a giant countdown clock at the training ground - you have 10 seconds to score, if you fail start over again out of possession. There will be a much needed professionalism to the training, but this will not be easy on players and it would be surprising to say the least if Rangnick plays anything other than high-octane football from day one.

We'll be hearing tons of stories of diet changes, saliva, blood and urine tests, high intensity training sessions, weirdly specific bans on various foods and behaviours. Heck he might even ban the players from driving fancy cars because that makes them too lazy and entitled when they haven't achieved anything yet this season. Some players will live it and love it, and some will probably fall apart completely. To be fair that is what should be required at an elite club. It is long overdue but it is risky to throw that in there mid season.

If rumours are true that Ole was too friendly with the playing staff, they are about to have a rude awakening. Rangnick is generally well liked by his players, but he's known as a strict and meticulous control freak in football. Which to be fair is not something new for ManUtd. We're throwing a live grenade into this squad and hoping it blows up the right way. If it works we reboot the training culture, level of professionalism, demands players are under and create an environment for elite sports analysis and performance.

I rate this is typical hype from the tabloids. It would be sheer lunacy if the FA didn't give RR a visa, so I'm sure this will be cleared up in the next day or so. Understandably Carrick will take Arsenal, as RR can't be expected to fly in and go straight to the ground with his luggage. I mean, he's going to be great for the club, but that's a bit much.

Sack before the International break because they know its a longer process to get him in, obviously.
So the club is a disgrace because it didn’t save a few days? We’ve had two results that we all would have taken before the games. Not sure what the furore is about, it’s super random to blame the club for this

We waited two weeks, lost 4-1 against Watford and then sacked our manager. Have a word with yourself.

It was daft, Rangnick would have been a couple games in with likely same or even better results, with better team cohesion in for the subsequent games. In a league where top 4 gets decided by the finest of margins, its daft to insinuate sacking AFTER internationals is not a feck up.

Wonder what Fergie thinks about this. Wasnt there a story he doesnt like the Germans. :D

He's already in the UK

I would support this.

The players should be picked by a club bus with hard, plastic seats. Win a trophy and then the seats can be upgraded to soft plastic. Win the league next season, and they can start driving an electric VW to training.

Especially considering two teams did sack and bring in a new manager during the international break.

But again, United did not even conceive of sacking Ole before the Watford game, which makes it look like sacking Ole was a knee-jerk reaction from the boards side.

Personally I thought Ole should have gone after the league cup game to West Ham so this debate is pointless, but it’s random to blame the club for taking action because you think it wasn’t quick enough. Everything is super easy to shit on in hindsight, the club didn’t even know they were going to appoint Ralph when they sacked Ole.

They tried everything to keep him at the job. Even sent him on a holiday

Whats done is done, can we not talk about 2 weeks anymore, at least in this thread?

I read somewhere that he has a consultancy company, so are we going in he’s books for 2 years along with other clubs already in he’s portfolio or is this role exclusive to Man Utd?

It's not even hindsight though. It was rightly questioned at the time. The fact the club also didn't have a plan shows they're incompetence too.

Whats to stop him going to the training ground? No Visa just means you are not official and cant get paid. If you are there as a guest then so what. Thats not illegal is it?

"I'm at the site of my new employer, but I am definitely not working, give me my visa please" is a move that can get you in big trouble, as it might be interpreted as working without visa and even working without a contract in place, so even illegal working in two ways.

I was waiting for you to bring hindsight into your argument. As though even a seven year old would need it to know that Ole should have been sacked before the internationals.

Its got feck all to do with hindsight and everything to do with ineptitude.

This seems very strange.

1. What right has the FA got to decide who can be a manager?
2. Are these same standards applied to all clubs? Can't remember any other manager going through this.

It seems he doesn't get an automatic visa on the basis he's not been a manager enough over the last few years, so it becomes discretionary and they have to check whether he's really qualified. They get football people to review the application in order to check that he's good enough. I wouldn't worry about it.

This is a joke, they can just look at his wikipedia page to know he's qualified.

The application process costs £20k, guess who's pocket that goes in to? The issue is that Ralph hasn't managed for over 5 years so we have to put forward a case as to why we're appointing him as our new manager. It's a money spinning formality.

More like one and a half years (he managed a season at Leipzig in 2018-2019) which isn't that much longer than Pochettino was out of management for. Agreed about it being money spinning though.

If that's the case then the whole scenario is BS.

Varane's Visa seemed to take just as long if not longer. Either we are slow at doing the paperwork or the goverment are very slow in processing it. Frustrating!

If I remember correctly, the immigration office is located in Liverpool. I remember reading that it would always take longer for United to get things done there.

All thanks to Brexit! Conte went through a similar wait, only it was during the International break so wasn't as heavily reported, I do not know if he went through the three person panel gig, but he had to wait for his visa and then once he had that then he was able to apply for the work permit.

I think the point is, they should have, it was obviously untenable after Liverpool, even more so after City, what was the point in keeping it going, giving him a weeks holiday, say we won against Watford.. so what? Posters can't understand the stupid decision of the board that should have recognised it was over prior to the break and Rangnick would have been here in now working
The point is they didn’t. Period. So what’s the point of dreaming about something that didn’t happen, think about the here and now

Its diabolical how this club is run.
They should have known about FA rules that allow a work permit to be given.

But then again we had the whole Ole debacle.

So we should not be surprised.
Off course they would have known. It’s only you guys that are getting impatient, the club are happy to let the process take its course

The Watford result gave them no option. What do you think the holiday out of the country was for? It was to give them and ole breathing space and thinking space. The Watford result simply got the whole board on the same page, they were split up to that point

We should stop banging on about the international break, a decision hadn’t been made. Once the decision had been made I have to credit the club with what they’ve come up with. We just need to have patience and let the work permit process take its course

After 8 years of utter shit, how did we get this lucky

I am filled with joy. Don't even care for winning a league any time soon, just the realization that we have a plan, we have somebody in charge who knows what they are doing and we will try our best - PRICELESS.

Werner was a killer in the Bundesliga.

Logic would suggest it’s not United twiddling their thumbs

Few days

The club has struck a deal with a respected guy in the footballing world and an expert in developing clubs who I think will do a good job at the club, firstly as an interim manager than as a consultant. Kudos to the board for finally making a good move which will be for the whole club in the future.

I think the criticism around not sacking Ole before the Watford game is completely fair and warranted. The international break would have been the best time to appoint RR and have his visa issues sorted. I'm not sure how the Board were still divided on him by that point, as it was clear as day that he was done here. I'll never fathom how he survived as long as he did, but such is life.

Also, people are getting far too emotionally invested in this 'legend' talk. Personally, I view him as a legend as I look back on that era for the club with a-lot of nostalgia. He wasn't a world class player by any means, but he was the epitome of a professional, hard working squad player. However, not everyone has to view him as a legend, and who gives a flying feck if they don't? Each to their own.

His management spell, for me, will never be looked upon fondly. It always felt divisive and full of false dawns. I appreciate some of his work, but overall, it was really very average.

Of course, it can be talked about and yes it should have been handled earlier but whats the point in talking about it now. Posters are impatient and are bashing the club for not sacking and now cause RR doesnt have a visa already as if its the clubs fault. Its like there always has to be some reason to cry about.
As for Ole's managerial spell, we dont agree but its not an appropriate thread anyway.

Brexit and something about stopping foreigners from taking up jobs that the English can do ie protecting Big Sams of the world.
A couple of years ago this wouldn't be even an issue.
