Canada. We bust people who come here to work but don't have the proper visa all the time. They get sent home on the next available flight.
It was the same 45 years ago. A lad I was at school with spent most of the A-level year bragging about how he was going to be having a great gap year in the wilds of Canada, only to be deported more or less on arrival. He’d had masses of time to sort the paperwork out; maybe he thought he could just blag his way in.

Sometimes people think they can apply when they get here but it's not allowed. In many cases people had the permits once before and then return a year or two later at the employer's request (shady). This is when phones and laptops cause trouble. I'm sure that a person's data shows that they once had a permit and so it's an easy thing to start probing. Other times people have no idea and think they can just go to new countries and work, which may have been what happened to your friend.

Weird that I am dinostar in the quote, though.

I used to work for a German company that also had construction projects in Canada. The Canadian visa process was the most feared in our company.

The only country even less favoured by me and my colleagues was Northern Ireland, but due to different reasons...

This cracks me up!

We Canadians aren't all smiles und sunshine.

Let's say we're not paying him until he gets the Visa. Does it count as working if he's not getting paid? He could say he's volunteering.

Name : Rangnick
Nickname : Nicky
Strength : building a club from top to bottom
Weakness : visa work permit

I seem to remember things got worse for a while when Klopp went to Liverpool and introduced a new intense pressing game there, partly because players were learning it but also because they weren’t fit enough, and there were quite a few injuries there as a result. We could see similar here
Yes it took them at least a season to get use to it. I was hoping more of a balanced approach. For example Tuchel at Chelsea. It didn't take too long for the players to pick up. Hopefully it won't take us 1-2 season.

After 8 years of utter shit, how did we get this lucky

I am filled with joy. Don't even care for winning a league any time soon, just the realization that we have a plan, we have somebody in charge who knows what they are doing and we will try our best - PRICELESS.

If he had input to Chelsea, did he also for Villareal, as they played the same in both games?

Sounds like BS to me.
I refuse to believe we went two games in a row without conceding a goal from open play and it's all thanks to Michael Carrick's tactics. And it's not absurd to think the ultimate control-freak of German football wasn't satisfied with twiddling his thumbs for weeks until he could officially become manager.

It has been an odd wait for the revolution to start. The rock and roll football just cannot arrive soon enough.

I reckon he’s been working with Murtough Fletcher Carrick and McKenna since the contract was signed. We’ve already gone noticeably more defensive responsible. The handbrake is back on. There is something resembling a shape and a desire to win the ball back as a unit. We are playing on the counter. It’s much more like Fergie’s teams until they clicked and we could confidently destroy teams.

In all fairness this is the way Ole should have started the season while the players got used to each other and got fully fit and up to speed again. Ole got Ronaldo and Sancho and he tried to go for it from the off. It was naive. He also put too much faith in the form of players like Maguire Pogba Bruno Shaw and McT and they just weren’t ready for all out attack after playing so much last season and disappointment and knocks through the summer while also settling our new players in. It was a badly managed mess to be totally fair.

The dynamic of the attack also totally changed with Greenwood and Ronaldo as starters who refuse to press or track. Bruno now a roaming provider. Which left us totally exposed in central areas.

I’m glad we are going to have some tactical street smarts again. We need to get on a run again and gain confidence however we can. Even if we have to grind out games for the whole rest of the season with Ronaldo and Cavani bailing us out. it’s much better than losing 4-2 and 5-0. Win ugly and slowly and methodically fix the issues in the club behind the scenes. It’s impossible to do that or anything else really when the team is falling apart on the pitch every weekend.

Amazing all those vertical passes. Ralf is gonna love Bruno and vice versa

Interview with a top german journo on Ralf:

We need to go into this appointment with our eyes wide open.

I feel like it'll click for some players that are used to playing in an organized system rather than 'express yourself'. Players that either up until now have struggled to show their form at United (VdB, Sancho although until recently) or haven't had a chance (younger u23s and the likes of Diallo) will become normal starters. Its exciting to see how things pan out, there is more than enough talent here, however none of the coaches we've had have taken advantage of it especially in an attacking sense. Moyes just wanted crosses or a certain amount of passes, LvG wanted possession but not real direction with it, Mourinho made us a bit more solid but still lacked any attacking 'style', and Ole fixed the roster but didn't add anything tactically that made it easier to break teams down.

Exciting times ahead, hopefully.

So how many people believe the theory that the weekend game was Ragnick's tactics?

There were several interesting changes from the default Ole template - Fred high up and pressed well, played an actual DM in Matic, McT covering Alonso etc. We've also forced quite a few turnovers as a result of our press which is incredibly hard to do against Chelsea.

We also went direct and vertical very quickly and didn't try to build up (and feck up) as much as we normally do.

I think people see 35% possession and think negative tactics, but it was hardly a park the bus performance.

I'd classify that as a park the bus performance. Now even if we didn't mean to, in the end we kept so little of the ball and were so focused on keeping it tight, it would be a park the bus type performance imo. I don't mind that though, given the context of our performances/confidence/away to league leaders etc.

It is going to take a bit of time before the players learn Ralf's style. I think Utd will play quite compact counter attacking football to start. I expect Ralf will try to change into a more balanced possesion game as the season progresses.

Not sure when he has the time or the manpower required to implement his ideas. He will need a week or two at least of just training.

Park the bus implies not committing men forward on attack, defending very deep and that wasn't true for that performance. We pressed high, the press was successful quite a few times, and was beaten on other occasions. It wasn't even a Conte style mid block press, it was a proper gung-ho pressing exercise - high line, 6-7 players in their half etc.

The lack of possession was a symptom of our build up play being kind of bad in general (as a result of the Chelsea press) and us choosing to go direct.

That explains it then. Even so, I can't think of an example before where a foreign manager has to wait so long. I might be wrong of course having not paid as much attention since it isn't us involved.
The second reason is that for you to get an automatic work visa within this profession there’s a clause that says you need to have worked that profession within the last 18 months or something to that effect. Rangnick last managed 2.5 years ago. That might explain the extended process. This needs a committee to decide if the person can achieve this visa or not. UK visa rules are quite weird.

But he's been here years, he knows the players, their strengths and weaknesses. Making excuses for him is lame.

I swear posters are just so happy Ole's gone they will accept any mediocrity.
So, if you were Carrick, what would you have done differently?

Interesting! My friend didn’t just go on spec; I think he went to stay with distant cousins or the like, so they really should have known better even if he didn’t.

Now fixed. I’d started a reply to dinostar regarding something completely different then abandoned it as someone else had already replied with what I was going to say. I managed to delete it all except the very start of the header. Weird that it formatted correctly though; the square brackets didn’t match.

No way you could have watched that game and thought that a great manager played a role in anything. We could have been a goal down inside the first few minutes and it could very well turn into another whooping. Their CBs walked around entire game with zero pressure. There was even a play where Rudiger almost dribbled into our box without anyone pressing him.

There could be some pointers exchanged between him and Carrick but I would not go as far as to say that those were Rangick’s tactics.

Music to my ears, lovely finally having a coach that talks about progressive football.

I was sick of hearing "the old days" "passion" and "who wants it more" nonsense.

Hopefully Ralf can translate all that speech onto the pitch.

Its diabolical how this club is run.
They should have known about FA rules that allow a work permit to be given.

But then again we had the whole Ole debacle.

So we should not be surprised.
So even if the club knew about the FA clause what should they have done differently? Travelled back in time and told people how bad Brexit was going to feck them? Because I'm pretty sure those warnings were coming thick and fast during the campaign.

Sack before the International break because they know its a longer process to get him in, obviously.
