Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Is demanding they be sacked "scrutiny"? 'Cause to me it just sounds reactive. The manager sets the terms, the staff work to them. Glibness aside I find it hard to hold Mpurinhos reign against anyone other than Mourinho. Ole, I can perhaps see more of the other side, but Carrick to me has shown some astuteness this week in stabilising the absolute Trainwreck we've been on the field (though I know others disagree).

As I said upthread, if Rangnick is truly this wizard, then let him work out what he can get from them and their usefulness.

I'm with you, mate. Not saying they should all immediately get the boot. Rangnick seems very much like the kind of individual who will be shrewd and make his own call on who stays and who goes. Wouldn't be surprised if a few of them don't make the cut.

He has knowledge of the players. Carrick and Phelan have knowledge of winning titles as player/coach and know the players. Rangnick has not worked in England. It makes sense.
You don't need three guys to tell you the same thing.

It also remains to be seen whether he knows 'how to get the best out of them"

Hmm, consultant for Lokomotiv Moscow, or interim manager for one of the biggest clubs in the world before moving onto a long term backroom position. Tough one, this...

We are big but we aren't successful. We have a potentially tricky board to work with. The pros and cons between Moscow and Manchester aren't that clear. If we were really attractive as a team Guardiola or Klopp would have accepted our offers. We need to stop this Liverpool in the 90s mindset and see the club for what it actually is.

Nobody.

We've spent shitloads and they're not gonna give an interim more money for players who a new manager may not want 6 months later.
Disagree, think we will absolutely target a midfrielder. Somebody like Zakaria who would be pretty affordable.

Squad of 23/4 players maybe they focus on 8 guys each build proper relationships. Maybe they divide training sessions in to attack/midfield/defence/goalkeeping and one guy looks each group. Modern football is full of specialists.

Bullshit, we love to buy players and you know it. Besides, some players are universal. If Kante or Casemiro-types are available in January, we buy them regardless of the manager don’t we.

So hyped up to finally have a tactical brain at United. Hopefully he drags our club kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

He's not just an interim manager. He'll have a big say in the club for the next 2.5 years at least.

I wonder who he'll get this January.

Remember we're talking about Kieran McKenna here, the guy who has been described as a 'school teacher' in his training methods.

After doing lot of reesearch on Ralf, I really feel it would have done lot of good to our club if we brought him and his entire coaching staff a few years back as a proper full time permanent manager with a chance of moving to consultancy role in recruiting team.

Still I am excited as he can use his network to bring in good players who can fit in to new manager's team with a long term plan. Hope he can havee a say on which manager we bring in next.

I don’t understand why anyone would not be alarmed by it tbh. It only makes sense financially and does not seem to be for pure footballing reasons. I say this because... First it not usually the done thing for a manager to leave and then leave his coaching staff behind...it suggests some sort of disharmony in the first instance. Second it is an odd move for a new coach to assess existing coaches while simultaneously implementing an new style of play- that’s quite risky no? Third these coaches have been part of a very suspect regime in terms of creating an genuine favouritism among certain cohorts within the squad and surely a clean slate is best...all young players and out of favour players working their socks off because they feel with a new managerial team they have a real shot at turning things round...keeping the majority of that team is a bit flakey and you risk losing that new manger “bounce” that so often occurs...finally...if Carrick and co stick around...that surely has implications for any new prospective full time coach being that the vast majority will want their own trusted men in place to take on one of the most highly scrutinised jobs in world football...

It makes no sense other then to save a few bob on wages. We are talking first team coaches here...not admin assistants. It also smacks of good vibes and dna shite which does not have to mean that you litterally have an ex player in every dug out.
The fact that Rangnick wasn't currently managing means he probably didn't have a full group of coaches that would come with him. It was always likely that McKenna and Carrick would stick around until at least the end of the season, albeit at a reduced level of importance. That will give Rangnick time to see if they are worth keeping, and whichever full time manager we bring in will also likely have their own group of coaches so they can decide together where Carrick and McKenna fit in (if at all).

Phelan is the surprising one for me. I thought he'd be off now.

Good point. Maybe he is short a few of his own having not been coming directly from another coaching role

Imagine how sad you have to be to make that thread the moment a new manager is announced. Especially after a period of bad results and endless questions over managers, players and the future of the club we are presented with a fresh start full of opportunity and yet there are people who only want to revel in potential negatives. It really is a damn shame we have so many idiot posters on this forum to be honest.
This is so much fun reading through

Sounds like you expected a whole change of tactics and miracles just because Ole left

Oh, not at all! I actually expected us to lose badly and was pleasantly surprised. But calling that crap performance a "solid quality" is too much. We got a great result on luck, effort, and stars aligning.

The fact that Rangnick was in a job and had no need to accept our offer, makes me think he got what he wanted in negotiations and might actually see Carrick, Phelan and McKenna's experience of a) winning titles in a league he has no experience in and b) knowledge of the players and the ways to get the best out of them, quite useful. No?
His job was at Moscow Locomotiv. I am sure we are tripling his salary, at least and the prestige of turning United around is whole different level. But according to rumors he did stand his ground. I reckon more because he values his reputation and won't come if he doesn't feel he can be successful, than anything related to already having a job

With Rangnick we might get some gems and inside info from the clubs RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig. Hopefully he will build a similiar scouting, recruiting and academy structure, which he already did for both RB clubs.
I'm really excited, he will surely finally bring some modern football structure in to the club.

Is he already in Manchester?

The same Zakaria who cant get in the Swiss national team is gonna solve all our midfield problems, yeh right, you read the Express too much.

That, if true, is already encouraging and in tune with the presentation of Rangnick as someone who constantly evolves in his thinking and approach. We shouldn't be stuck looking at the same options for two or three years.

1. Nowhere have I stated that one signing will solve our problems.
2. I don't read the fecking Express
3. Don't be a cnut.

What exactly does Phelan do other than model shorts every winter? What has been his impact since he arrived?Other than being Fergie's mate, i cannot see any justification in keeping him.

That bench is gonna be full.

He sees himself more as a club builder than a coach these days, so he would not have signed just for the interim job (he could have done exactly that for Chelsea last year and declined if rumuors about that can be believed). So once United promised him that powerful consultant role, he was on board, but only then as it sounds.

And success in the next 6 months will give him even more power. Exciting times for United fans.

Work permit plus he has to self isolate.

Don't see him taking charge till after the Palace game.
Have him do what the Czech president did

We can put up a glass box at Carrington

On paper it looks like a good run for him to identify the team and style moving forward... this must be the target this season. Find something that will suit the next permanent manager (who I hope is Erik Ten Hag).

We've no chance for the title and a small chance at a cup so the focus needs to be on the team shape, personnel and style. I wouldn't even mind if we missed out on the CL for a season for longer term success.
