Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Can't believe people still defend this guy.

The second half was just about acceptable but the first half was the worst first half in my 30 years of watching United.

His plan was low block, long balls and counter attack while being physical and not giving too much time on the ball. Our formation supports this plan of action. However, our players decided to play the high line tiki taka and lost the ball easily when pressed and got caught out of position for the first goal. Then heads dropped and everything went to the shitter.

Why would rangnick lie ? The players ignored his instructions, either they're idiots or don't give a feck what the manager says.
Surely he knows Maguire always goes walkabout. He’s done it in every single game he’s played. He still picks him every week. Drop players until they will do as instructed. Don’t play a player that can’t defend up against Salah and Alexander-Arnold.

I agree he needs to drop players like Maguire, annoys me that he still plays them

But whatever he put out there, whatever tactics that these players are capable of, whatever formation , we were getting beat no matter what.

No united player gets in this liverpool side, plus they more fitter by a mile with way more fight. You're literally asking miracles off Ralf. He needs to give time to the youngsters and forget the fight to 4th.

Ralf‘s remit and Jose’s remit are completely different.

Jose was hired as a permanent manager to win stuff and build a squad. He criticised the squad he built after getting what he wanted from the board.

Ralf was hired as an interim to (in my opinion) primarily evaluate the squad and shape a new football infrastructure. He hasn’t bought any players and he’s working with someone else’s squad, plus he’ll be upstairs next year hopefully working close with the people who’ll run the football side of things, so him giving both barrels to a bunch of players six months ago he had zero connection with, is more justifiable than what Jose did.

One was meant to bring glory and the other is a troubleshooter.

This is how I see it also. The club would have struggled to find any decent manager to take the role for 6 months - even Rangnick wanted further assurances that he would be part of the back room staff after this season to convince him. He initially turned it down.

Context is key when looking at his time here. When he was announced and it was said that he would advise the club going forwards, everybody loves it as we all knew we'd finally get an impartial view on our squad and the club would get a few home truths. Seems a few have lost sight of this. This season was a train wreck before he arrived and severe damage done in all aspects already. Yes it could have been better, but looking at us now, I just think we've somehow built a squad that has absolutely no chemistry and nothing going for it at all. Some feat really.

As I keep saying... He's had an impossible task. Once the motivation of competition targets was gone, the season was over for the players. And he's not the type to appease people I don't think. I think he's being brutally honest with all the players since he knows he isn't going to be manager and they know he isn't so it's just a bit shit show. But maybe a necessary one.

There’s no way the board hired him to say feck off to 80m in CL revenue mate. Sorry, the board expected top 4, Ralf expected top 4, this has been said by both many many times.

He’s not Ancelotti or Hiddink, you’re right. He’s much much worse, the worst manager since Dave Sexton.

Did you actually see Dave Sexton managing United?

You're literally asking miracles off Ralf.
I’m literally not. No team in the Premier League would’ve been as easy to beat as United were tonight. It’s not expecting miracles to expect us to be able to beat Burnley, Villa, Everton, Leicester, Watford, Middlesbrough, Wolves or Southampton. Win two or three of those games and our season looks a lot better.

How much things do you want him to do? It’s not his job. He’s made the recommendation let the club sort it out like a normal well run club would do. Do you think Pep n Klopp hired their current fitness team. You think Pep was out here researching and doing interviews for a new fitness Team. Jose in a press conference said the same thing as a permanent manager here. It’s not their job mate!!!
He's literally been hired as an INTERIM MANAGER. I expect him to do at the very least: Improve training, improve fitness, improve tactics and therefore player performance, motivation, and, RESULTS. If he manages to change the culture somewhat, that's great, at least a little. Again, Tuchel had chelsea playing his way in weeks. Rangnick can't even get them pressing for one game.

Ralf said in the post presser that the players were too afraid to get close to Liverpool for fear of being outplayed in the first half. That we did not do what we had trained on.

He gave them plays specifically not to do vs. them, a black list he called it, and they still done it.

We just froze and stopped thinking altogether basically.

You don't have to tell them its only for 6 months. Give him an 18 month contract, and sack him after 6

I don't think Ralf is a great coach but I don't blame him for how things are going at the moment. This group isn't capable of playing how he wants. We were playing better under him but the wheels have come off again after the CL exit.

You're either naïve or deluded.

Projection. You're the one who thinks he has no blame, that he has done nothing wrong, and that he can't do basic managerial tasks as a football manager because he's an interim. If that is not delusion to defend an obvious fraud, then I don't know what is.

You do not try to improve fitness during the season. There is no time to do it during matches coming in thick and fast. That is why all clubs need a preseason . As for tactics he has said even today the plan was not to play a high line yet after a few minutes Maguire decided to press in midfield and that led to the first goal. There are leaks that at United some players were going straight to Fletcher bypassing the manager. It did happen under LVG and Jose too.

Or was Maguire just being stupid, as opposed to ignoring instructions? Rangnick always blames the players regardless of whether or not it was their fault or his because he knows people like you are there to make excuses. I'd love to know where all this stuff about bypassing LVG came from, and Mourinho also.

Because they have no fecking pride and should be kicked out. No matter who the manager is they have to listen to the manager. Even if it is Fred the mascot.
Should they have listened to Ole's braindead tactics at the start of this season? No. Rangnick has failed to earn their respect and to assert his own authority, its on him that they won't listen.

Obvious fraud? Wow ok you clearly haven't got any idea of real football, or actually genuinely watch us.

I still rate him. He knows what he is doing and trying to get the players to do what he can. The club obviously wouldn't give him the full backing to upset and rock the boat before the new manager come in which means there's not much that he can do when players doesn't do what he asked them to do. There is no consequence if they don't follow his instructions.

I actually do, and what I see is a manager failing to instill anything in this squad to get top 4.
Okay I'll reply to you properly. Counter these points please.

Why does Rangnick need to earn their respect? All of them are complete frauds, and need booting out. They should be fighting for their careers here, not trying to survive by throwing another manager under the bus.

Ralf is a pressing coach. He tried to implement his game plan and the players were exhausted after 45 mins vs Crystal Palace on his 1st match, and we were holding on for dear life by the end. He then tried a 4222 but again the players couldn't handle the workload for it.

Because it's impossible to do fitness conditioning mid season he's had to default back to Ole's system to get through to the end of the season.

His coaching team is a Frankenstein setup through no fault of his. No top coaches would leave their secure jobs to join us on such a short term contract until end of season. He was complaining about this in his first press conference. Because of this he actually wanted Carrick & McKenna both to stay.

If you think its possible to turn a rank last pressing team into an elite pressing side in a few months I don't know what to say. When Ralf arrived, we were absolute bottom in the league for every defensive metric going.

Lucky we drove them both out of the club.

Why on earth didn't we sit back and park the bus in this game ? As expected we gifted Liverpool the first goal with our aimless high line. So easy to play against.

He said in the interview that was the plan. The players just did whatever the feck they wanted.

Why do people talk about Ralf as if he’s an actual manager, he’s a DOF playing role of manager, he’s there to help identify the next steps and the problems in the squad which he is now communicating.

I don’t think the club hired him thinking he’d get top 4, just to get asclose as he can anduse his club building expertise to help build the post Ed united.

he’s not sn Ancelotti or Gus Hiddink.
The one thing we know he was hired to do is to get results on the pitch, the rest is just speculation. He certainly hasn't been hired as a DOF despite more of his recent expertise being in that area and he has already stated he wasn't involved in the managerial recruitment process. In terms transfers his consultancy role is more likely to involve making suggestions than having any real authority.

We should have hired him or another well qualified DoF instead of murtought/ Fletcher and a better manager but unfortunately we have him as a manager and then he will provide limited support afterwards.

So many seem determined to make out hiring him was all part of some masterplan rather than yet another misjudgement (hiring a strategist for a short term role). I suspect the thinking was more along the lines of let's get a German coach because that's worked for liverpool / Chelsea. The way we have been managed over recent years should lead people to be more pessimistic about these things, even if there has been some changed in the senior management roles

The players froze and were too scared to follow the gameplan we worked on so reverted to what they thought was 'safe' instead.

I expected to us at least try to be solid. But the defending on the first (and second / third) goal was just abysmal. Everyone aimlessly pushing up, nobody putting a foot in or able to track back. Liverpool must been delighted at how easy that was.

Strange given sitting back is the safer option.

Lets be honest, we're talking about 1 player here. It was Maguire for some reason broke the line and pushed into their half, so leaving acres of space in behind him for an easy through ball.

The other 2 just got beat by Diaz in a foot race.

No it was also the left side. I'm not sure what on earth Dalot and company were doing. Amateurish stuff to press with such exuberance and incompetence and leaving yourself unable to do any tracking back. For Salah/whoever to get so many space to charge into was surreal.

The left side was Maguire's side? We were playing 3 at the back to start, so you can't expect your wingbacks to be on the same line as your CBs. That ball should never have been on, because Maguire should've been covering that space.

I honestly don't know, how your wingback can cover that when your LCB has just left that space free.

Cheers. I only saw the highlights. In that case I can't understand why Maguire wasn't prepared for a turnover. Although Dalot should still not losing possession at the half way line.

I’m delighted we got Ralf as Interim manager. Obviously it’s been a disaster but he is going to be part of the club when ETH gets here and will have plenty of reports on these players for him.

I’m sure Ralf is shocked at how bad the players are and their effort being zero to none.
