Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

If they aren’t putting in a shift and it undermines your tactics then pick players who will. Don’t do the same thing over and over and expect things to magically change. He’ll get paid millions for this. I could pick eleven players and be honest in interviews for half that.
The board hasn't given him that much authority. You see kicking big starts down the pecking order would also bring down their supposed "value".

Quite simply there is no remedy except selling these players. There's a reason fergie always said the mentality of a player is as important as his footballing skill.

The players just don't give a shit.

Directing any attention to the manager is exactly what these clowns on the field want. Stop enabling them.
I agree. It's not like Rangnick has been dealt a good hand. He's been given this shower of shit and told to just "deal with it". Not exactly setting the world alight here, but I really can't blame him that much for it. His club building abilities were always far more valued than his managerial skills anyway.

I love how we have posters saying how ETH, a manager who will likely have full control and remit to whip these players over a long time, will need time and many windows to fix the issues.

But Rangnick, a manager on caretaker with no new signings and only half a season, is allowed no time and is shit if he cant deliver improvement.

Hypocritical tits on this forum, really.

Be honest, we didn't look this bad under Ole. Our attackers looked like they could attack and our defenders were relatively good for the two seasons prior to this.. We weren't great, didn't really control games, but we were attacking. We were scoring goals. As annoying as they are, we were never this bad under Ole. That's on Rangnick.

Is this some sort of WUM post? You do realise Watford thumped us 4-1 under Ole and shipped six goals at home to Liverpool, right?

Don't agree. Management isn't just having ideas. He coached Liepzig in Germany. It's not like he's been this successful European manager. People really overstated how exciting that Liepzig team were and the German highline made those turnovers more occurrent and deadly than in England. Have the players been domotivated, yes. But Rangnick as a manager tactically has been horrible. As horrible as the players.

Says who? You have made that up with no knowledge of what he is allowed to do. Who’s value is he protecting?

Players know he's not staying as manager, doubt they've ever respected him much anyway, they also know he's already given his appraisal of them, loads also know they're leaving anyway, it's a recipe for crap football.

Mind blowing that folks think he's the problem here

Most this team have checked out around the Liverpool hammering.

All easier said and done by saying play the kids, I say that too, but do you honestly think he has that sort of clout to just scrap the team of internationals and fire the kids on when realistically champs league spot still up for grabs.

He been dealt a terrible hand lately, only way you can fix these out of form players and downed tools players is see ya in summer.

Certainly feels that way.

It was still far worse under Ole. If it takes 6 months of Ralf to get ETH and a fresh rebuild I am okay with it.

Dear lord there are some idiots in this thread. Just perhaps take a moment to wonder why a manager who likes to press, play a high energy game and create a lot of quick turnovers has us playing pretty much exactly like we played under Ole. Either he has suddenly seen the light and realises now that the sort of football Liverpool and basically every other top team plays is rubbish... or hes struggling to get this bunch of overpaid cnuts to do anything he has asked of them.

Maybe, just maybe they aren't doing what he has asked them to do and hes basically babysitting them until the end of the season. I hope he sticks around and tells the next manager exactly the sort of pricks he has inherited and clears out 80% of the squad.

RR is not the best manager in the world but hes not this bad. Hes not told the players to jog around the pitch, not track their men or put even a token effort in when closing a man down. He hasn't told Ronaldo to completely lose his first touch and goalscoring ability. He hasn't told Greenwood to be a complete scumbag.

Boggles my mind that some of you think that RR has the team doing even the basics of what he will have been trying to impress upon them for the past 3-4 months.

These players have been throwing managers under the bus for years so whats a temporary manager to them. They get their fat paycheques regardless and a load of them are off at the end of the season so seem to give even fewer shits.

Spot on.

My oy criticism of RR is that knowing these players have clearly given up on the season, he hasn't introduced more U23s in the first team 11. Ok we may lose or get thrashed but I'd rather that than this.

Surely when Rangnick took over the brief was simple. Finish in the Top 4 and assess the squad.

He's not going the first objective so we have to hope his judgement is correct on assessing the squad. He's failed as an intern manager. No matter if we're able to turn it around today, we aren't finishing Top 4 in this form with the fixtures we have remaining. We can blame the squad checking out, but it's his job to keep them motivated and fighting for the Top 4. He just isn't a good manager, lets hope he has a positive long term effect in building the club back up.

Oles best period was during the first months after he took over when the players were just happy because Mourinho was gone. They didn't dislike Ole by all accounts at any point so how on earth would a manager who puts far more emphasis on technical and tactical excellence come in for 6 months and turn things around when the players don't give a shit.

I think the plan was to lay the groundwork for a similar manager to take over in the summer and the team to have progressed in their fitness and tactical abilities but the players haven't taken anything on board. RR is not a top manager but he isn't close to being as bad as this bunch of cnuts makes him look. They just are not bothering.

We had 2 1/2 seasons under Ole. We didn't ever look this clunky. Even this season, we were bad defensively, but we never looked this scattered. I feel people had an idea of who Rangnick was and are unwilling to see the issues with him. The players have been poor, but I haven't seen us look this poor. LVG's united in late 2016 feels a bit more similar to this.

He's picking these players.

Yeah, perhaps he should bring on Salah or De Bruyne or any other players we don't have who actually put in a shift for their team.

Hes played plenty of different players since he came in and most of them have slotted into the malaise perfectly. Sticking 3/4 youth players into this side wouldn't make it any better and they would just have a horrible start to their senior career as they try to learn their trade in a dysfunctional mess.

Rangnick, Ole, Mourinho, LVG, Moyes... to be honest it's kinda been the same shit since Fergie left. Some glimpses every now and then, but mostly just shit... It's like our jersey got cursed when he left. I hope Ten Hag can turn things around, but it feels like he has to change things in the club dramatically and get rid of so many players

Rangnick feels like he just continued where Ole left, just changed Bissaka for Dalot and sometimes Telles for Shaw. But same 4-2-3-1 and no new style or ideas...

I am pretty sure he isn't telling Matic not to look around him before receiving passes. Some things you can coach, some things just are what they are. Our squad is fatally weak in so many areas.

We were every bit this bad on a number of occasions under Ole. Even when we were riding high we would have random games where we were just utter dross and completely outplayed, outworked and outscored. The difference is that under Ole at times the chaos clicked. Put enough decent individuals on a pitch who are happy and they will do quite well, quite a lot of the time. Theres are reason why it was so unbelievable bad when our luck and application changed under Ole. There was literally not foundation of a functional team to fall back on. No patterns to fall back on and thats what we are seeing now. A team that has no cohesion and doesn't care being managed by someone who is trying to change a bunch of players who don't have any interest in changing.

It's not RR's team, it's our previous clueless managers who was allowed to build it for three years without any clue of how the players are you gel or play any semblance of football. Ole has set the club back years.

I just don't understand how it can look this bad. Even some of the player who were ok under Ole are really struggling with Rangnick. The truth is he hasn't shown anything good outside of his press conferences. People need to start being honest about that. Yes it could be players not caring, but let's not act like he's shown any signs of being a good manager for us.

I agree. The midfield and build up players are just so poor. I don't understand why it's so slow and tepid.

Always rated Ragnick but I cant see how this system scores goals. Where are they meant to come from? There are no angles created by a 4-2-4 like the 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 creates naturally to pass around - it might work if its mega high pressing, and fast, direct football - but we're not direct or quick enough in transition so you just kind of try to crab the ball slowly up the pitch with the only real partnership you have in the system - the full back and inside forwards - working to get a 2v1 and then a cross in to the back post where you ought to have a man left over. Nothing from the center of the park.

Agree with all of this. Of course we all hoped for better, but it is what it is. Can't blame him too much. Just hope his work behind the scenes can set Ten Hag up for success.

The players have stopped listening to the manager. This was reported by an extremely credible source.

And yet here we are, again, blaming the manager. Good one.

This whole experiment was a waste of time. If he's added solidity, it's at the expense of attack. We'd likely be in the same exact place in the league with Ole in charge.

Blaming the manager because the managers record is poor.

It's been an absolute disaster of an appointment. Ralf isn't fully to blame but he has to shoulder some responsibility!

Then you're being daft. The players had long stopped listening to the manager. Look at the root of the problem.

I’d never heard of him six months ago and I’d forget he even existed if he left the club tomorrow.

It's our fault, we hired a director of football as a coach.
