Raheem Sterling

He looks like one of the more gifted English talents in the last decade. Liverpool have got him at a great price. Talented young players always seem to be undervalued especially if the fee is set by tribunal.

He wasn't sensational, but he didn't look out of place on the field, which for a 17 year-old making his PL debut against the champions is a very good sign. One thing he needs to work on is how easily he was knocked about by the bigger lads, but then again he'll broaden as he gets older.

It' on youtube only I don't know how to embed. It was on pre-season in the States and he just told him to sort his attitude or he wuold be on the first plane home.

It seems to have worked.

Odd they would air something like that to the public?

Part of a documentary type thing we're doing apparently.

Still not sure how I feel about it.

I actually think Brendan comes across well in the clip though. He certainly commands respect.

We should've done something similar with Pogba...like trusting him in more games.

I know midfield is on another difficulty level but still, we could've found more gametime for him, in a midfield three or something.

Yeah I heard somewhere he had got two girls pregnant at the same time - no idea if it's true though.

By all accounts he's got that end product Liverpool's been lacking.

Surely has offered penetration early on.

I'll get my coat now.

Huge talent...

Watch the fans slowly but surely pin all their hopes on this kid if their season goes from bad to worse. Hell, they'll probably do it anyway.

Given the choice of him or Rodwell I would have had Rodwell I think we missed a quality player there for a relatively good price of £12m (English tax) he will be a starter for England and City for years to come soon imo

What a random post/statement. What has Rodwell got to do with Sterling?

Rodwell as a DM imo will be very average, if Everton had played him at CB only he would have been a very good player.

Would be very wasted at City unless Mancini gives him a chance at CB, with time he could still mature there and time will be a precious commodity for him at City.

Agreed. Think the problem with us bringing midfielders through is just that - we play 2 central midfielders. It's going to be extremely difficult to trust up and coming midfielders with first team football in their natural position unless we start playing them in a 3 man midfield.

Funnily enough, in regards to Sterling, he was the only one I felt in Liverpool's academy who matched up to that batch of Pogba/Morrison/etc. Looked a real talent then and is developing well. I seem to remember him scoring something obscene like 5 goals from the wing in a match a couple of months before we played them in the final.

Its very early days for Sterling. It could go either way for him, SWP/Lennon are examples worth bearing in mind. Lennon in particular was very similar at the same age. He does seems to have bit more invention about him though.

Gabby Agbonlahor looked immense when he burst on the scene and never lived up to his early potential, like so many others. Sterling, take note.

I've been really impressed with his decisionmaking. Knows when to release it, plays it smartly when he does.

Not at all what you'd expect from a 17-year-old skilful winger.

 He sure does.

He definitely looks like a promising player.

You just have to hope he hasn't gotten half of Liverpool pregnant before he reaches the prime of his footballing career.

Somebody better teach the kid how to use a condom, now that he is getting more and more famous the opportunities for him to "score" surely won't go down.

Do you think you'll be able to keep him given your wage structure once the Child Support Agency bastards get their claws into him?

Seriously he looks pretty impressive, largely because the step-up doesn't seem to have fazed him. It seems that there are a few interesting prospects coming from your academy now - do you think it's all down to the influence of that ex-Barca coach who was running the academy until recently?

Thats probably why I think he'll go on to be a better player than Lennon and SWP. Then again you can never really predict these things. Its also important that Liverpool dont rely on him too much ala Owen at the same age.

Contract is up next summer. Why has he not extended?

Hmmm that's interesting considering all the talk about him wanting a return home to London. Imagine the reaction on Rawk if he buggers off to Arsenal/Spurs/Chelsea next summer?:D

Rodgers will try to swap him for Chris Baird soon.

He's a very good talent. For his age, he's done very well whenever he's played. Done the basics right, doesn't get pressurised, and is confident, which is good for him. If he continues to get games and does well, he can turn into something great.

If he has half a brain he will be off in the summer.

I fully expect him to leave personally as he has already stated he is unsettled in Liverpool and was pushing for a move just before Rodgers arrived.

Sorry cesc thought we were talking about a good young English prospect, me comparing him too another good young English prospect how random.........

If he gets games there's no reason for him to leave. Rodgers seems to be good with young players, especially attacking ones, and, obviously, it's a big, prestigious club.
