Raheem Sterling

I guess they could give him a run in the first team. He can't be that much worse than Carroll.

He looks a player. Bags of potential.

Looks to be very English-esque winger this lad, likes to run fast in a straight line and with a very inconsistent end product. Looks keen but his pace isn't exceptional at senior level like it was in youth football.

Commentaters eager to tell us how good he was despite this contradicting what our eyes could actually see.

I thought he was really impressive personally. Showed technique, work rate, speed and intelligence in his play. Got out muscled a few times but that would happen to most players against some of City's. At 17 I thought it was a really impressive performance. Liverpool need quality out wide as well and on that display he should get a lot of game time this season.

I thought he looked promising. depends on how he progresses but should do well with Rodgers.

He's a big talent and should play as much as possible even if some of Liverpool's other wide options are slightly better right now. Every minute he gets is a win for Liverpool in the long run.

He is 17 playing against the premier league champions, and didnt look out of place. That is compliment enough!.

Kolo toure is very tough physically, he is fast and strong; very hard to beat on the outside, but he tried it time and time again and had a bit of luck the few times.

Unfortunately liverpool have a player on there hands there.

Agree with this. Still very raw but his attitude was good. Very eager to impress in front of the home crowd and injected a fair bit of pace in an otherwise dull Livepool side.

Physique and style reminds me of SWP. Hope he doesn't turn out any better.

He's a very good player with bags of potential. Those labelling him a one dimensional English winger would furiously *** constantly if he was playing here.

:wenger:

Had a good game, got exactly what they wanted out of him. Caused problems and put City's right side on the defensive

He was good the first 30 minutes, then he looked like a skinny 17 year old boy not yet ready for the majors. Why he wasn't subbed off is beyond me. Then I look at their bench and kind of understand.

I think a lot of us would be happy if we had a 17 year old who had a debut like that for us on the wing. Lot of promise and potential and he will get better with games. Didnt he play a few days ago?

Hes a huuuuuuge improvement on Downing.

He has a chance because he didn't let the occasion phase him. How good he will become is anyones guess. Liverpool have fallen that far down that they can give this kid a chance and he took it but can he score goals at this level? Can he create chances? Downing couldn't hehe.

I can't recall him creating any real chances or looking like scoring. Held the ball up quite well at times but little else.

Januzaj will be comfortably better than him. Still a very good prospect.

That's an odd, and might I say, and even stupid prediction to make. Sterling is only 1 year older and already looked good against the PL champions in his first start in the PL.

Sterling was good and looks a big prospect. He didn't come cheaply either for a totally unproven player either but it's not money that will just go down the drain.

You wonder how much city knew about Sterling? Obviously people will have seen him in the reserves but was there any real indication he'd be playing? He played his game and so I think he has a chance, especially as Liverpool are trying to rebuild etc

However if this kid was at United, he would be no where near the first team. So we just have to wait and see down the line, if they made it.

My feeling is he was brought in to push the wingback towards his own goal in this particular match and will more likely be benching it for the majority of games, but he showed more than enough today to say he's a good option off the bench

If you're honest, this 17 year old looks more of a threat than either Downing or Borini right now.

Good buy for Liverpool. I tihnk they paid about half a million for him a couple of years ago. Always a gamble buying players that young but it seems he's gonna make it.

His wiki says 600k with future fee up to 5m. A gamble for sure but hardly a big one considering their other transfer dealings.

Sterling playing for their first team is a testament to his obvious talent but also largely related to their shit squad.

If you think my opinion is stupid, fair enough, but we'll see if it's still stupid in a couple of years.

Looked impressive. He wasn't just about pace which is the important bit. I thought he looked to have enough footballing intelligence for a 17 year old winger and his close control was good. Good signs from Liverpool.

Gets his head up which you don't often see at that age (or ever in the cases of SWP and Lennon) and at just 17 it's clear to see he'll likely go on to be a Premier League player. At what level depends on him.

He looks the business, or certainly did yesterday. Could provide the quality out wide that they badly need.

Probably the one player Hearts couldn't get a grip on during midweek. Downing's days are surely numbered.

No. It's testament to a brave & astute decision by our manager. Brave, because if it had failed it could have set back his development, & maybe could have cost us the game. It was astute, because not only does it show the young lad that he's very much on the verge of becoming a regular with the team. It also sends a message out to the underperforming, established members of the squad that they need to up their game.

The key thing we can take from his last 2 performances with the first team, is that at times he's showed glimpses of what he's done many times whilst playing with the young lads. But most importantly, he's never looked fazed or out of place playing against 'the men' - I remember going with an Evertonian mate of mine to Goodison to watch Everton play United early on in the 91/92 season. I seem to recall this young skinny kid (Ryan Giggs or Goggs I think his name was) playing only his 2nd or 3rd game for United. The match finished 0-0. The 'skinny young kid' did OK without being overly spectacular or impressive. But looking back, his composure & self-assured style of play was a big indicator of the player he was about to become. If Sterling can carry getting the basics right. Then we could have quite a player on our hands.

I think you're the only one that will have to wait until then.

Home debut againt the champions and didn't look out of place. Looks promising but I don't expect to see him playing every game.

What was the story of him leaving QPR? Seems a very cheap price they got him for.

He used to play for QPR.
Liverpool bid for him.
QPR accepted.
He now plays for Liverpool.

Not a best seller by any means.

Wiki says:

Sterling was signed in February 2010 for an initial fee of £600,000, but this could rise to £5 million depending on how many appearances he makes for the first-team.

Dunno how true that is though.
