could be good for us if he wants to go for free next year, bigger chance of joining us but it won't happen and they will sell him this summer anyway..

His contract is until 2017.

Liverpool should reject their bid as they know how desperate they are for a homegrown talent.

Liverpool would be mad to keep an unwilling player who will leave for less next summer anyway. Rogers can't afford a bad start to the season. Better to buy someone who wants to play for him.

Note to managers: don't treat your teenage star talent like you're doing them a favour by letting them play. They may be naive, but their agents aren't. See under Pogba P, Sterling R for more details.

We should bid £1m more than City just to antagonize both Pool and City

Next step in the process... We'll reject and they'll make an increased offer, I'm curious to see how long we will hold out though. Probably 'till we get £40m ourselves after QPR's cut, but our lawyers should be all over the possibility to diminish their part, for example making it a two player-deal.

I'd sell Stirling for £40m, I doubt he would achieve that kind of value ever again...especially playing for City.

Wonder if either of ourselves or Arsenal bid around £40m Sterling would put in a transfer request since supposedly wants London so much.

Has there been any indication that he wants to go to City and the transfer fee is the only stumbling block?

Latest I heard was he'd rather go to London but he isn't exactly opposed to move to Manchester either.

We should be all over him. Even if Liverpool accept a bid, we should tell Sterling to wait. The media will get on the back of Liverpool because at the end of the day, selling to United or vise versa shouldn't be an issue in this day and age. Liverpool are being short sighted if they think that's smart. The clause when Madrid bought Figo didn't omit Real Madrid. You see Chelsea probably willing to deal with Arsenal for Cech. We're historical Rivals but we had plenty of Rivalry with Arsenal yet we sold them Silvestre and they sold us Robin Van Persie. Again we didn't sell them Heinze, but that was different. Sir Alex respected but was big into the historical aspects once stating that he wouldn't mind picking Liverpool up from the perch and placing them gently on the tabletop. I would like to think in 2015 our two clubs were mature enough to negotiate. City and Chelsea are Liverpools rivals too. It shouldn't be that just because we've not dealt with each other for 50+ years (or whatever it is), that it means we'll never deal together. We'll throw in Evans. Just sell us Sterling and be thankful that we demand to sign your troublemaker.

Good post. I also mentioned a while ago that he’s worth a lot because he’s very likely to stay in England, and that’s uncommon amongst top attackers these days.

IMO he’s the best winger/striker who will be moving this summer.

He has evidently got huge potential - and like with Shaw and Rooney, that costs a lot. I've wated a fair bit of him and people seem to forget how old he actually is. At 18 and 19 he was coming up with game winning performances in one of the toughest leagues in the world. That's what marks him out as a special talent - as well as his ability to play in various different positions.

Given the money top plauyers go for these days, at £40 million (a lot of which is likely to be dependant on achievements and/or paid in installments - as with most transfers) he's a no brainer.

Sterling is exactly the kind of player this City team lacks. Would love us to sign him.

He's not worth £40m IMO and we should be looking elsewhere for wingers for example Felipe Anderson.

If we are in the market for a winger I would hope Felipe Anderson is on our radar and not players who have expressly stated that they have no wish to play for us

He would be much much better than Navas, that is for sure. I still think you guys need to look at your back four first. Mangala is a joke and Kompany seems to have regressed big time.

Maybe. I can't see Kompany been as bad as he was last season and Demichelis is always reliable and we have another year from him. Mangala should improve having had a season to settle and with a full pre-season behind him I have faith at least one of Kompany/Mangala will improve. Plus, we have Denayer who looks like he could develop into a top class defender.

I hope Liverpool make City pay as much as possible. Not bothered at all how much money Liverpool get, they'll spend it on average players, are very far behind the top anyway and would still need to replace Sterling somehow.

Hence we should drive up the price...

I can't see the Americans being happy with them rejecting higher bids from us

I don't ever support Liverpool in anyway but I hope to god they stand firm and take city to the cleaners.

I have a few city fans that were fans before the ££££ came flooding in and none of them want him in the first place they all laughed at this improved bid at work today, the only city fans that want sterling for that sort of price are obviously the new breed that supported them when the arab money took over.

What you pay is really not THAT big a deal. It took one player in Cantona (though we were close anyway), to inspire the kids around him - making them in turn better players. Sterling and Depay would, albeit in a different formation - be like Giggs and Kanchelskis. Two speedy players on either side that can go both ways. We have to force our way into the action somehow. All of this 'city' talk - is a joke. Our money is worth more then theirs. To the pool fans, City think they're a bigger club then you are. They think you're their bitch. You gonna bend over and let them have sterling for cheaper then what we would pay? Really? Wouldn't mind but it seems to me, pool fans don't even like the kid.

He's a top talent. I wish we had a decent chance of signing but I fear City will match whatever we bid and Liverpool will refuse to do business with us.

£35.5m, eh? That's not too bad. Definitely getting closer to a done deal, methinks.

Why do people react so much to the comparisons between Sterling and Lennon? Their playing style is quite similar, and Lennon was, after all, nominated three years in a row as young player of the year as well as being selected player of the year for Tottenham. The way he progressed then is another matter altogether.

Or, perhaps, just perhaps, some City fans have different opinions on the ability of Sterling and his price.

Sterling's playing style has more in common with McManaman than it does with Lennon.

This is hypocritical considering how annoyed I am about the De Gea situation, but City shouldn't even be offering that much for him.

Sterling wants to leave and there aren't that many clubs that will pay a huge fee for him. They won't sell to us, Arsenal have better and just as good out wide, Chelsea apparently haven't shown much interest and clubs abroad don't get too impressed with the next big expensive English talent because they can get a Spanish, German or South American one much cheaper. City have the leverage and it amazes me they've bid so much.
