I would pay 49million for him :) I don't think he will jump from club to club. So I think you'll get 10+ years out of him. His pace, directness is great. People talk about the money. It's not always about the money but the bigger picture. He would fit in like a Glove at United. England will be a better team now for the pace Townsend and Sterling bring to the side. It gives them a good balance and the potential to counter if under pressure. Sometimes what you pay is irrelevant IF the player is the one you want. Sometimes you will over pay and sometimes you will get bargains. Such is life.

I know we have depay, but him and Sterling on either side (think Adnan will be better deeper long term) - would be great.

Why do ex-players keep making snipes at Raheem Sterling...?

Is there some reason that he and he alone is fair game for these type of comments?

Falcao spent the entire season getting paid 265,000 a week to do feck all, Ballotelli also offered Liverpool utterly nothing - why aren't these guys getting bullied on social media by ex-players?

I really, genuinely don't get what Sterling's done that's made the kid an open target for this continual public criticism.

No idea. The national team needs a new hate-figure, I guess. And unlike some of the previous ones, he hasn't proven himself yet. So there's no proper response to the abuse.

Looked better today. I think City will be getting a player who will do great things for them. Unfortunately.

He played well but his finishing really lets him down.

Are they the only team bidding for him? Is it fact they've bidder so far?
Seems to be that they are the only bidder. Maybe the London clubs will get involved, but City most likely. He's going somewhere. We can just be sure that it won't be to United.

Because they're foreign and it's taken for granted that they're all money grabbing bastards, whereas it's beyond reproach that an Englishman (the honourable lot that we are) would ever to want to leave a team that will never pay the most or win anything substantial (all things remaining equal) for another club that can triple his wages while offer the prospect of trophies.

I think it was the fact that he didn't really distance himself from his loudmouth agent - that "Carragher is a wanker" line probably didn't go down too well with the ex-players. Plus, he's English so he'll always get more attention instead of a foreign player (who are expected to only be in the PL for the money)

You can't see how turning down outrageous amounts of money after his poorest season to date and agitating for a move in the most arrogant and twattish agent led way ever might upset a few ex Pool legends?

Sterling Rooney Depay
Di Maria Schneiderlin
Carrick

We need Sterling, he will become a top player, I'd hate the next best English talent to go to our rivals when he's a Utd fan

if we threw our hat in the ring and tried to buy him the only thing we'd succeed in doing would be speeding up a move to City....

no way Liverpool sell to us

Ball looked glued to his feet at times. There's no way we're getting him though. I said earlier we should put some serious money down and test their reluctance to deal with us, but i don't think for a second they'd sign off on it.

As for those saying he's a United fan, i really don't think it's enough of a factor here. We've seen countless times how someone can turn down their boyhood club, Shaw being a recent example. Even if he was a huge United fan he'd need to push for a move for two years before he saw it come to fruition, and receive numerous death threats in the process. It's a non-starter really.

You image that they would be find very hard for them to turn down a United bid if it was 10 million more than anyone else.

Still can't see it happening.

Who have ever thought we'd see players leaving Liverpool for City in search of trophies eh.

He will definitely end up there, they need a few young, big, English names this year.

I know Liverpool would never sell us a player but wonder would FSG refuse our offer = City offer + 10-20 mil. Just a theory,i know paying anything more then 40 mil would be under "?",wonder what is worth to FSG Liverpool - United relation.

I think the writing has been on the wall for months. He has been reported as their number one target for a long time now.

So apparently City have upped their bid to £35M + 5M add ons.

That should really seal the transfer tbh.

Isn't that a lot of City's budget due to FFP?

I'd be happy to see them waste a lot of it on Sterling.

They have no ffp restrictions anymore.

What a waste of money. At first i thought it funny to see city wasting so much money, the problem is all that money is going to Liverpool

Aye, nailed on to go to City now.
Big shame.

For all the people laughing at the fees being mentioned, I think he's one of most talented young players around right now, possibly the most out of the one's I see. How many young players his age do you see right now who can beat a defender with as much ease as he does? It's rare and that's why his ceiling, depending on how hard he works and how strong he is mentally, can be incredibly high. I'm hoping this falls through and he somehow ends up staying at Liverpool.

Aside from potential and all that, he's already a very good player, in my opinion. He'd actually be joining players more on his wave-length at City.
I think people seem to think he's some limited player who'd be joining a team above his level. Which I'd disagree with.

He's quite clearly not shit, he's one of the best young players in Europe and helps with their home grown quota. Good deal for them.

Surely they do. They've served their punishment but doesn't every team have to work within FFP restrictions?

According to the Echo, we've rejected the bid.

Edit: Sorry, we're likely to reject it.
You'd be ridiculous to, it's a fair price for someone who didn't exactly set the world alight last season and has requested to leave.

Yep.

Can someone tell me why we drool over pogba for 70-80 million, and sterling for 40-50 is considered more of a joke?

There's two things here. Firstly, it sounds as if the ffp regs are being relaxed anyway. Second, the last punishment was for the previous 3 years. Since then they have been able to balance their books by their dodgy stadium rights etc which would make the ffp restrictions irrelevant.

Wouldn't expect 300m spending or anything, but they'll certainly be able to match/beat our spending
