I'd find it very hard to believe we aren't interested. Liverpool player or not.
Oh yeah I'm sure there's interest on some level but after the news breaking yesterday(I might be wrong but news was broken by Merseyside Jouro's and not any from Manchester)and now the agent outburst. It all seems all very open, which isn't something that's happen with United and recent transfers.

Still it's completely guess work and the moment.

David Moyes getting sacked really did restore normal order. Liverpool are a circus yet again. Aside from Newcastle, I can't think of another Premier League club that manages to get itself into such a brilliant mess time after time.

His agent has denied the quotes, and is taking legal action. Just said on SSN.

Not surprised, first thing I thought when I read them is no damn agent is that stupid to say such unprofessional things !

if they were true could well Liverpool wouldn't do any business with him or his clients anymore for like ever. And likely a lot of players wouldn't ever consider him anymore as an agent. Your job as agent is to negotiate the best deals for him, no way is any agent going to accomplish that with such comments let alone bringing them out in the media.

He is right by the way to take public action, this could very well have had a detrimental effect on the agents professional credibility and could cost him business.

The media is oftentimes just outright disgusting, borderline criminal ! They are supposed to bring out actual news not come up with lies that have the risk to upset thousands of people and harm the professional reputation of players, agents and clubs if they go viral.

Delusions of grandeur is the common trait.

Has anyone in the media, or any ex-Liverpool player, actually given a legitimate reason for Sterling to sign a new contract?

As Tony Barrett said, the only legitimate reason anyone can come up with is that it's better for Sterling's development and even that's shaky given he'd be a starter for City straight away. Which proves Sterling's point. Not even Liverpool think they're going to do much.

He's never coming here, but lets throw some chaos into the mix and offer him stupid wages in full knowledge he won't be here.

Never say never in football. A lot of people said RVP was never going to come here too.

Say what you want about the agent but all this controversy is making Sterling out to be a more important player than he is.

So, Liverpool's owner can, embarrassingly, play to the Liverpool fans with tweets like 'What do you think they're smoking over there at the Emirates?' (though he can't be bothered to show up for Gerrard's Anfield farewell) yet it's Sterling & his people who are unprofessional? Pah. There's a streak of amateurism and conceitedness running through Liverpool Football Club™, from the very top all the way to the dugout, on to pundits' comfy chairs.

Hardly , player looks like he wants to leave, the club have said so far he is going nowhere, talks are planned.

Maybe we should just do what United did with Rooney and throw a bucket load of cash at him to make him stay ....?

Ideal scenario......we make an offer. Chelsea and City both exceed our offer. He tries to force a move to us and we refuse to increase our offer. He publicly states he wants to make the move to United as it would be a massive move in his career, huge club etc. Chelsea and City give up and make alternative signings. This rumbles all summer as Liverpool try to sell him abroad. We are only interested party and he desperatley wants to join us. Early evening on deadline daythey accept our offer. We turn around and say "nah your ok, keep the over rated little mercenary". By which time liverpool are faced will keeping a player who desperatley wanted to join us, all relationships have borken down or they flog him to PSG or somebody cut price to do the deal. They last minute offer way over the odds for theo wallcott who rushes up to merseyside, agreeing personal terms on the helicopter en route, landing at 23:00 only to fail a medical.

As transfer saga's go......................i'd piss myself laughing

Whatever happens, I don't want him here. Slightest gust of wind and he falls over, I give Young a hard time for doing that, we don't need another! Over-rated, he's got potential as a winger but he needs to be able to put in a decent cross and/or score goals - neither of which he can currently do on any kind of consistent basis.

Arsenal don't need another winger/10; neither do Chelsea really. It's gotta be City. I'd definitely take him if we don't get Bale, but that won't happen either.

The consensus on LFC boards seems to be:

Stick him in a cell, 24/7. Only bread and water. Failing that, let him rot in the reserves for 2 years.

Let Skrtel nail him in training.

I understand their anger, but why are so many football fans so bloody childish in their thinking?

Llllllloyalty

even tho clubs discard players all the time, as soon as they get too old or their form drops, players should not dare do the same in return.

I'm still giving Sterling the benefit of the doubt here. Liverpool leaked the contract talks in the first place, any talk of Sterling being unprofessional is embarrassing on their part. They're basically Spurs with slightly less ambitious owners, it makes absolute sense for him to want to leave, especially given last week's wank fest over an Gerrard who, for all his loyalty to the same club, basically gave up his international career so he could sit on the bench at Madird and not get offered a new deal. Yeah, Sterling owes that club nothing.

He's been pretty rubbish recently, but I'd put decent money on him winning a lot more than Liverpool over the next 10 years.

Who leaked him not accepting the 100k offer according to you?

Fair comments - but all forums have that, some of the comments in this thread are a bit like that too.

Monday night: Sky break the news that Sterling won't sign a contract, Carragher is visibly sickened.
Tuesday night: Manchester United's end of season awards, van Gaal is visibly hammered.
Wednesday night: News of Manchester United's approach to Liverpool for Sterling is leaked, RAWK is visibly outraged.

I didnt believe these were real Quotes at first

Wow, if true every club shouldnt bother bidding for him

I don't understand posts like these. Do you really believe Liverpool is the best place to be for sterling even if you simply focus on the footballing side of things and leave wages aside?

I'll spell it out for you. I'm saying the Agents motivation is £ regardless of whether he thinks it's right or not. It's easy money for a 34 year old nobody. Now what does sterling actually think? Well, I don't know - because I know what an adults influence over a 'child' can be like. In this case, obviously it's the agent who Sterling listens to and trusts. Maybe Sterling wants to leave! Regardless, I just dislike agents period.

Scholes never had an agent I don't think. The club really looked to screw him over, didn't they :) Big clubs, aren't crooks lol. Well, not all of them. If you are on big wages, get an accountant and have an agent ONLY if millions ain't enough. Too much money goes to these feckwits and out of the game. Who ends up being the feckwits? The players, because they're thick as shite. All the money in the world and they rely on people to be honest when being honest could cost them a fortune...

True but ultimately united can't control if a story gets leaked. Sterlings agent seems like a nightmare.

Would be amusing if Liverpool did let him rot in the reserves for two seasons

The quotes from his agent may well have lowered his price because it's pretty obvious he'll not be staying now.

C'mon Sterling, once a red always a red.

Man, this is perfect. His agent has turned this into an out an out mess.

To be fair though, you can't blame him for wanting to leave. Why would you want to stay there and win nothing all your career and then get a send off like Gerrard? I'm pretty sure Gerrard would have swapped his send off for Giggs' trophies.

People who devote a large chunk of their lives to a game?

The way this saga is playing out there is not a hope in hell of Sterling being able to move to a club in the North West. He's London bound IMO.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up signing a new contract with them, just to try and save his 'image'. Of course i would still expect him to move at a later date as i can't see Liverpool getting back in the Top 4 for a while yet, unless we or City or Arsenal implode next season.

Just imagine if we handled the De Gea situation like that.

If De Gea had the same attitude as Sterling and the same agent = then you would be.

I don't get the Liverpool comments here, they offered him a contract which so far he has refused, talks to continue - club say they are not selling him.

The agent has apparently denied the quotes.

Liverpool leaking stuff to make Sterling and his agent look bad. IMO.

The first I heard of that was when Sterling said publicly he had turned down the offer.

My memory's shit but I seem to remember it being in the papers before his interview.

I'm not one of those that believe players simply follow agents like idiots. Which is why I don't get the hate for agents when players angle for moves. The agent's job is to get the best deal for the player. If sterling wanted to stay at pool, his agent's job would be to get the max salary. If he wants out, his agent's job is to sound out suitors and then get the best deal when Sterling picks a club.

I think it's quite obvious that sterling wants out. Signing a long term contract now when pool are in their current state doesn't make much sense it's not as if he's a boyhood fan of the club. He needs to look after his career 1st and foremost.

Scholesy was a one off and at a club that constantly won things, not really a good comparison. I don't think it's about the money tbh, if they've offered 100k, it's good money for the level he's at. He just thinks he needs to play for a better club which is fair enough. The likes of carragher have spouted a lot of nonsense and if it's pool that leaked his refusal to sign, the anger is well placed.

Liverpool are basically a handbook on how NOT to handle situations

Naah, I think he did make those comments but in private and they've been made public. Even Pool wouldn't be this daft.

I'm not sure the Standard would risk a libel case against them if he didn't make those comments. Also, it's a bit of an odd story to conjure up, hence everyones shock at it. I think he made the comments in anger then tried to retract them. Or Sterling has given him a bollocking. He seems like a bit of a lunatic.

NO UNITED INTEREST IN STERLING

Sky sources understand that Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling is not on Manchester United’s radar and they have no plans to sign him.

Reports on Thursday claimed United had made an enquiry over the prospect of signing the 20-year-old, but Sky believes that not to be the case.

Sky sources also understand that Gareth Bale’s availability this summer will dictate whether United attempt to buy the Real Madridwinger.
