I've had my doubts about him in the past but he's playing brilliant football right no, no question about that.

He's fecking brilliant. The future for him here is a mouth watering prospect

Been so absorbed with Anderson forgot he was equally as brilliant and fastly becoming a shoe in.

Now showing alot of consistency in His performances which are packed with high energy and better decision making, which comes with games.
He brings so much to our attacking play with good support, crossing and is an outlet for nani if double marked.
Nice to see with have two full backs in a similar mould and thus means we can switch it up alot more with free flowing pace and not become too predictable from the back.
One thing that surprises me also is His ability in the air, makes good leaps wins quite a few headers and is assured.
There are no exscuses to drop him now no matter what opposition we play be it a passing or physical side as we should be controlling the play more keeping teams on the back foot.

I do not like to use potential or the future when talking about Rafael. He is already one of the best fullbacks in the world.

No where near although a very exciting prospect and if he keeps going will become one of the best.

No way near? He's in the Brazilian squad ain't he? Who's got better full backs than Brazil? No one, that's who.

Turning into a cracking little player. Seems to have a great attitude, a decent work rate and is improving his defending every day. It will be really exciting to see how he develops.

Kleberson was in the Brazil squad does that make him one of the best midfielders in the world then by your reasoning? Plus there is 2 right backs better than him in the Brazil squad Miacon and Alves. Think he's a fantastic prospect but not one of the best right backs in the world that imo is a bit OTT at this stage in his career.

Just my opinion but i tink Lamn is the best right back. Maicon the second. And Alves is the third best in the world. Plus Ramios would imo be ahead of him also plus maybe a few others i'm not trying to knock the boy i think he's great but just not at the level some are suggesting.

And guess what ? Some preferred to play O'Shea there at the beginning of the season

not sure whats so funny, O'shea has been a solid servant and solid RB, rafael being 19 and yet to play a complete season it made sense to start O'shea. However things seem to swing rafaels way and we are reaping the benefits.

long may it continue, you get that sense of excitement when he picks the ball up and starts running down the right. Less nervousness when the opponent is attacking him aswell.

So even if we accept that those you named are maybe better, that's only 4 people, so he'd be in the top 5. I think it's therefore fair to class he as being "one of the best in the world". Nobody said the best.

He'd be fighting it out for top 5 at best with Glen Johnston, Zambrotto, Puyol, Burdisso, Ivanovic, Sagna so no not one of the best right backs in the world.

Glen Johnson?! I'd argue he's as good if not better than most of those you've mentioned, but Johnson? Bloody hell..

Johnson is a very good right back who before the world cup the press were bigging up as good as any full back in the world! Lol Like I said i think Rafa is tops and a great prospect but right now surely he can't be called one of the best right backs in the world to me that is just way off the mark.

Johnson is good at the attacking aspect of being an 'attacking fullback', but he almost always forgets how to actually defend, which is something of a problem when that's the main job of the role. Rafael is far better than him.

IMHO I don't think so. But he certainly has the potenial to be. I'll ask you a question: If Rafa was 30 years old right now would you still be calling him one of the best full backs in the world?

I don't see what his age has to do with anything, I'm basing my opinions on the performances he has put in against top level opposition. So, to answer your question, yes.

Thats my problem R_Nick I don't so where we basically disagree is i think he's a top prospect who is on his way to becoming world class if he keeps improving and you think he's already there. Fair enough I hope your the one thats right.

Fair enough, as long as he keeps putting in the same level of performance I'm going to be a happy man :)

Would you stop it with this ? Maicon was injured. If Brazil's right back are all fit then Rafael is just not ready
This is like "Evans is the best young center back in the world".Stop overrating our players even it's exciting to do so.
I'm amazed some throw so easily the "best in the world" adjective so fecking easily.

I'm not sure why you find that offensive. He has proven himself as one over the years. Why the surprise?
