Rafa Benitez | Sacked (Fachts)

They are going to demolish the championship next season.

He'll bring them up. Knowing Rafa and his transfer muppet within, he will probably sign about 10 players and 8 of them will be utter shite

So the waiting is over.

Makes you wonder who he will bring in, because the usual breed of player he'd go for, are not going to play in the championship.

I think the report is a little premature..the North East press is saying outside chance of completion of the deal today, but most likely before the end of the week. The delays are because he is getting all the assurances that the board have offered him verbally in writing, so like anything involving lawyers it's taking ages.

Good for him. Could have taken the easy way out but willing to roll up his sleeves.

This is Newcastle and Rafa we talking about. Rafa does well in big games when he's the underdog.

His problem is motivating players when they the favourites. Which Newcastle will be in most games next season.

Rafa Benitez, Liga BBVA and Champions League winning manager, now managing in the Championship. How bizarre. Fair play to him for agreeing to do it, but I imagine he's getting compensated rather handsomely for it.

I do also find it quite funny that Jonjo Shelvey leaves a comfy gig at Swansea, captains his new club, then gets relegated. How'd that work out for you there pal?

Fascinating story. The last 12 months of Rafa's professional life would genuinely make a brilliant documentary.

Excellent coup for Newcastle. And as @Sied said, I think they will demolish the Championship

He's right this time. Rafa would never take charge of a team in Segunda, 2. Bundesliga or Serie B.

I wonder if he'd have done the same at Villarreal, Napoli or Hamburg/Stuttgart under similar circumstances. All the clubs are relatively big in terms of fan base and were either relegated or nearly relegated (Hamburg!) in recent times.

If he pulls this off,no one could touch him there, fans went in begging mode for him to stay, now when he signed a new contract and if he gets them back, they will worship him. In some way, maybe he feeds of that status in fans`s eyes.

I doubt they'd reasonably be able to pay as much as Newcastle probably are whilst a second division team.

Of course, no one can pay managers as highly as English clubs. I assume he's more concerned about promises regarding transfer targets rather than his own salary. Either way, Newcastle in Championship guarantee that more than the other clubs I mentioned above during their stints in lower tier.

lets hope we get a early cup tie against them!

Great gig for him all things considered. He will walk the championship and get promoted with a confident team who are perfectly drilled for the PL.

Then with a vast budget and his connections Im sure he will attract some good players next summer.

It's really not.

More likely he couldn't get any genuinely good gig so stick around for the money. The last 7 years or so his CV has been abysmal, so no good club is hot over him now.

Great move for Newcastle. I imagine it's taken some of the edge off relegation for their fans.

Benitez will know the Spanish market inside-out and there are some great bargains there. Newcastle will easily be able to outmuscle the majority of clubs in La Liga, relegated or not, and if they can get three or four bargains (even if they're only one-two season wonders, like Michu) they'll come back up straightaway and fare better in the PL next time.

I said 'all things considered'. I agree he recent failures makes it impossible for him to get a top club right now, but this is an excellent route for him to become one: take over a faded great, rehabilitate them quickly so they can compete with the elite again.

Newcastle's attendance's are massive. They generate good commercial revenues. It would be an excellent toy for the next cash rich mogul to play with. If he can get them going, and they can attract more investment, he'll be competing with the elite PL teams in a few years.

I respect him for taking it as it shows he still has faith in his abilities and he still has a burning passion for the game. Aside for the tribal piss take when he was at Liverpool, I like the man. He tries to make his teams play good football and is very knowledgeable. We were very lucky that the politics at Liverpool cost him his job as he was building an a amazing team at there. It was very unfair on him on how it ended. I wish him good luck.

If he is given the control he wants then it is the perfect club for Rafa. Apart from his eccentricities he always seemed a good man. Good luck to him.
