Rafa Benitez | Sacked (Fachts)

He’s constantly being asked about it by the press and is trying to force the owners hand to try and get him to release some funds. What makes you think he hasn’t spoken to the board? We don’t know what’s gone on behind the scenes. Given how candid he is with the press I’d be surprised if he hasn’t.

It’s up to him whether he walks, he’s under no obligation too. The fans love him, and largely hate Ashley so the board have to be careful since they’re actively trying to sell the club. If he walks, they’ll odds on to go down with no guarantee of bouncing back and then Ashley is either lumbered with the club or selling at less than the £350 million he’s after now.

If the board are refusing to back him, and he thinks the money he's getting isn't enough to stay in the league, even moaning in the press isn't yielding result, why should he stay ?

Even when boards and managers disagree vehemently - as has happened at many, many clubs in the world since the dawn of fecking football - it's still rare to have a manager walk midseason.

Maybe he has a sense of obligation and duty to the players and fans, if not the management, and would want to try and stay regardless to see us up and then walk in the summer when it's better for everyone? Maybe it's for financial reasons if you want to be cynical.

I don't understand why you think you're entitled to any justification of him staying on even when he's butting heads with his board. That happens everywhere and it's nothing new.

Firstly, he won’t get a pay off if he walks.

And perhaps he feels that eventually he’ll get what he wants. Even if he doesn’t, and they do go down, the fans (and probably the public at large) won’t blame him. He’s in a no lose situation at the moment - gets credit for keeping them up, blameless if they go down and none of the fans can say he’s a “yes man” or that he hasn’t voiced his opinions.

Like him of not, Rafa knows how to get the fans on his side. Makes all the right noises. He’s still loved by the scousers for that reason alone.

Point is, if he's accepting to say even if he thinks he's not getting enough money and continuously moaning about it, then he's to be blamed as the board. No one is forcing him to stay if he thinks the budget isn't enough for his ambition.

Point is you're arguing just to argue now. There's no law that says "stop moaning or quit on the spot".

If you're fine with him continuously moaning about lack of money as if it's the only thing missing the time, then as you wish. It's your team anyway not mine.

Newcastle fans won’t think that. I can tell you that for a fact. The numerous season ticket holders I know love him, love that he’s challenging Ashley and that he speaks his mind. He won’t be blamed.

And why does that mean he should walk anyway? He was asked to get them back up and did. He’s getting on with the job in tough circumstances rather than running away from it and taking the easy option. Fair play to him.

He has power at the club because there’s a chance, however small that of Ashley sacks him or causes him to walk it’ll hit him squarely in the pocket.

So, what do you think he'll do if summer comes, they remained in the league and still they're still spending the same low budget ?

Probably, on the back of keeping them up despite not spending any cash, review his options and if a better offer comes in walk on his own terms with the fans on his side.

If he walks now, at this time of year the only jobs about are “fire fighting” and panic buying at a club he doesn’t know with players he had no hand in picking. Why do that?

I hate him and them so much. I watched both their games against City and they were pathetic, just camped in their own half and then game raise like feck today. fecking pricks. Guess I'm bitter.

Just needs to keep his stock simmering long enough to be ready when the LFC board acknowledge Klopp will never actually win anything.

Rafa is a nice fella. Anyone who gives 96,000 to the Hillsborough Campaign surely is a decent fella. On a shallower level his small club comment at Everton is legendary.

Admire his loyalty but really needs to feck that club off.

Yeah, he needs to get out. He did fantastically to get Newcastle where they were last season but Ashley is a parasite and he can take them no further, textbook case of an owner who does not deserve such a decent manager. They will probably get relegated under somebody else and it's exactly what he deserves.

The only reason Newcastle aren't relegated is because of Rafa.

I hated him once, but now I have grown to have a little respect for what he's accomplished since the Real sacking. The situation at Newcastle is beyond terrible but he's somehow managed to keep them up. They really don't deserve him.

Same feelings. Think hes been permanently infected with liverpoolitis, but what a job hes done there. Surprised he hasnt walked. Hed Definitely get a job at better run prem club or abroad

He's not going to have the resources to build them up to a top 7 side. He should walk. The only reason he probably hasn't is being in close proximity to his family.

Think in his contract he's got a very heavy penalty clause if he walks.

I've heard from some that the clause expired earlier this calendar year. If true (massive if) then I really don't know why he's bothered sticking around, but love that he has. Absolutely deserves better than the parasite Ashley and his flock of cronies.

I’ve also heard that but I’m surprised he would agree to something like this. If anything he was a bit too high profile for Newcastle when he joined, not the other way around so he should have been the one dictating terms.

Sunderland, villa, newcastle... more and more pl clubs have money problems. When you pay average players 50-60 k per month then you finish in deep shit.

Newcastle spent £15 million on Shearer over twenty years ago. In the time since, they bought Owen for £16 million over ten years ago and they haven't spent more on a player since. There can't be a single club in the top two - maybe three - tiers of English football that can say that they haven't broken their transfer record in that time.

The club is a farce and the supporters continue to be taken for a complete ride. That Benitez stays there is staggering. The club has so much potential but the budget he gets is nothing short of farcical. And when they do sign players (Ki, Muto), you can't help but think sponsorship dictates it.

Firstly, I can’t believe we once spoke of Newcastle as being title contenders!

Secondly, whatever we say about the plastic oil clubs, they’re not leeching off the clubs they own the way this clubs owners appear to.

Thirdly, I hope Rafa gets a sweet little number with a club that realizes what they’ve got in him. Whatever about his time at Real, place is a managerial circus anyway, but he held the job regardless, and kudos to him for the UCL win with the pool, (that last bit was hard to get out) but he’s a decent manager who knows his football. Really is wasted at Newcastle. Bit sad considering the heights he’s been to.

Media should be more sympathetic to Benitez than Mourinho. The latter has already spent tens of millions. Benitez has to ask his boss before he puts fifty pee in the meter.

It’s amazing. These quotes are virtually identical to what Mourinho recently said. If anything, Rafa was more scathing. Bet the media will sympathise with him.

The situations are not remotely comparable, though. Anybody who follows Newcastle would vouch for that.

It’s all relative though.

We need to bridge a huge gap to City and have basically bought one viable first team player. For whatever reason, the club hasn’t delivered what’s required so far.

Also, it’s not as though Rafa didn’t know what he was getting into. Newcastle have been skinflints for years, so I’m not sure why he thought it would be any different with him in the hot seat.

Apparently we are having a serious look at Lascelles. Would be a big blow if they lost him.

He's our rock. It would be extremely painful.

I can see Ashley pulling another Andy Carroll situation and selling him on deadline day with no replacement or chance to spend.

Not that it would matter how much we got since we don't reinvest but I would hope, in this market and given his potential, he'd fetch at or near Stones level.

Bane?

If he is so unhappy, why hasn't he told Ashley to choke on a kebab and leave? Why subject himself to this level of masochism?

They're in for a rough season. Serious lack of quality.

They started last season similarly didn't they? Generally Rafa has them picking up just enough to survive, and you can't really ask for much more. They weren't too bad against us last week, should probably have won a point.
