Race for top 4 | Finito.

We’re 7 points clear with a game in hand and some of you lot are worried? :wenger:

It'll be difficult to lose top 4 from here. Although I can't lie, if we lose both of our next games away to Brighton and West Ham, I can't pretend my bum won't be squeaking. The team has shown it is extremely mentally fragile when push comes to shove.

Like in the penalty shootout last week.

After the Brighton and West Ham games we then have six days rest before playing Wolves, then seven days rest before playing Bournemouth, then five days before Chelsea. This extra rest should give a little recharge and I expect we'll play well in these games. It could be important if we struggle in the next two games.

Why are people spreading panic? I hope this does not get to the players.

If our position is reversed with that of Liverpool most of us here would say that Liverpool will qualify for the CL( and rightly so). Now we are in a very good position, 7 points against the 5th place with a game in hand, and six games to go, we need to win 3 out of the six, while the 5th placed team needs to win all their remaining matches.

I am not saying we should be careless and flippant, but we need to spread positivity, every opponent we play is prime Barcelona on Caf.
Our fate is in our hands.

Credit to the players and ETH, let us encourage them, we have played the highest number of matches in Europe's top leagues, unlucky with injuries and suspensions to key players, CR7 issues, a bad start to the season, the sale of United(which thankfully has not crept into the field),the unity among the players.

If we finally make CL(which I think we will), then it is a good season.

And it's only because it's Liverpool and they are the jammiest team on the planet.
Villa will not be thrashed. Can pretty much guarantee you that. Why people twerk so hard for Liverpool is beyond me.

Despite their shit season, they're only behind Arsenal and City for xG. They're going to play Fulham, brentford, Leicester, Villa and Southampton. I see atleast 4 wins if not all 5 wins for them. Assuming they get 5/5 because they're jammy twats, that'll put them on 71 pts.

We need 9 points to beat that. I think we'll get there even if we mess up a few times and make it hard for ourselves.

whu (D)
WOL (W)

CHE (D)
FUL (W)

Ideally, atleast a draw against Brighton and a win away to West Ham will kill any Pool hopes.

Only because it’s Liverpool. Very capable of winning all their remaining games and putting the pressure on.

Absolutely no need to panic at all. Liverpool’s cheating today would have been a problem for us if we had dropped points against a very tricky villa side. We can’t control what they do or how many points they get between now and the end of the season, only the referees and the FA can control that. Let’s just get on with our own business and get the remaining points needed.

The lack of belief in your own team is quite shocking. We want the players to not be nervous but as fans some of the posters here are embarassing. The posts I have seen before the spurs and villa games have been shocking. And now i see posts like what if we lose to westham and Brighton away blah blah blah. Embarassing posts in a manutd forum and people need to check themselves.

But they don’t get to win all their games and put the pressure on us. We play our games too. We shouldn’t feel pressure. We’re 7 points ahead of them. With a game in hand. With 5 games to play after that. Liverpool should be an irrelevance to us this season. And if they’re not, we have massively, massively fecked up.

Like in the penalty shootout last week.
Like in the rout at Anfield
Like in the rout at Sevilla
Like throwing away the game at Spurs.

My point is we are in a good place to get 4th. But being so very sure about it is not logical. And we have key players missing too. So cautiously optimistic would be the way to go I think.

Have we lost two in a row this season? I’m pretty sure we’ve won every game after a loss which would even be enough to finish top 4.

All we need is a few wins out of 6 games to guarantee it, and in reality a couple wins may be enough. No need to worry about anyone else

This "sensational" run Liverpool are on in the last 4 games has led to them gaining a massive 2 points on us.

And yet certain posters are panicking.

liverpool's "sensational" april had them picking up 14 of 21 points and a +4 GD

our "bad, failing to get over the line" april had us picking up 13 of 18 points and a +4 GD

People really underestimate just how tough winning 9 games in a row is, no matter how "easy" they look on paper, yet its taken as a given for our rivals

They'll likely win them all but it will make no odds cause they still won't get near you guys or Newcastle. At most they'll drop 2 points.

it could be argued we are also capable of winning all our remaining games

-Brighton- ETH has showed he can stymie them 0 goals in 120m in the SF and it was 2-1 in the reverse fixture. smash and grab 1-0?
-West Ham- We have done well against the bottom 10 this season and I could see them resting some given they have the Europa Conference and have Brentford 3 days after. Moyes might be inclined to rest as they face Leeds & Leicester their final 2 matches which will be much more imperative to them staying up
This is where we get some regular rest
-(5 days off) Wolves- at home and they are in poor form
-(6 days off) Bournemouth- again done well against bottom 10 and they've pretty much a clinched to stay up so might not be fighting that hard
-Chelsea & Fulham. Home form + our record vs the bottom 10 + I don't think either will be fighting for a European spot at this point

I'm not concerned in the slightest. Today was pretty solid. We gave Villa some encouragement but I don't think that's because we're bricking it over top 4. It's a general trend with us this season. But overall in the game we were strong enough. We've got a huge points advantage, reasonable fixtures, more rest, there should be no problems. The manager will keep them focused even if we drop points.

We're like one of those poor dogs that's taken too many beatings and keeps expecting a clout years after they're out of danger. Brentford were going to do another number on us, Forest were going to be fighting for their lives, Brighton were going to teach us a lesson, Villa were going to roll over us.....now the mighty Liver bird like a Phoenix from the flames, is going to reel us in. It's really tiresome. We're knackered and we're wobbling but we're still playing lots of good football and we've still got key men in form. Garnacho back any day will be a big help with those ladt 20 minutes that we're finding so tricky. Casemiro has remembered how to play football again. Shaw's back to his best, Victor's looking good. It'll be fine. Liverpool have been shite as much as they've been good in the last month. It's 4 in a row but they're still wildly inconsistent.

We've problems to address in the summer and we're running on fumes, but we've still kept an in form Villa at bay. We really should be good enough to secure that CL spot.

Brighton away will be tough, but at most 3 wins against 5 teams who by the time we play them should be fairly safe with nothing to play for should be hopefully straightforward, especially with 3 of them at home as well.

Main concern is the inevitability of Chelsea sacking Lampard a week before we play them just so they can get a nice new manager bounce in time
Will be Poch's first match in charge. You just know it. We should be well clear of 4th though as it's the penultimate game of the season.

9 points needed out of 18 available. Either 3 wins or 2 wins and 3 draws would be enough. 3 out of last 4 games of the season to be played at home.

I know this is an United-forum and all, but there is absolutely no reason to worry about Liverpool taking 4th, in fact, its basically impossible for them to do so, so just relax.

That's not how this works
what in the blue hell is this?
How does that work?
It doesn't
Are you ok?
That is not how things work
You'll need to explain this for me
Never mind. Somehow mixed up how EL and/or CL winners out of Top 4 get a slot, with the PL getting a 5th slot if City won it.

They are fecked then, good stuff.

You are technically right in a roundabout way, just one season too early. Starting 24/25, the two leagues with highest coefficient get an extra spot so a 5th placed team can benefit from other English teams doing well.

But yes, it’s our job now to make sure it’s glorious Thursday night football for them next season, and many seasons beyond, hopefully.

Bolded part is the reality.

Yes, we could drop nearly every point and drop to fifth, but that’s highly unlikely. We got this.

Newcastle have Arsenal next and will surely drop points. I'm not worried at all.
3 wins out of the next six games and top four is ours. You could also say two wins, three draws and a loss.
Don't panic, Obviously the Wolves and Fulham games are crucial but can't see Liverpool winning all their remaining games either. We should forget about Liverpool and just concetrate on finishing above Newcastle.

Westham away is coming at a good time for us. They will definitely have an eye on their semi final 4 days later.

Man, they actually might go on and win the thing which will piss me off even more. Just want them to get in to the conference league position. They themselves would be ashamed if they win it.
