Race for top 4 | Finito.

Two big wins for us although the injuries are mounting. Newcastle winning away at Brentford and West Ham was a blow too. Didn’t expect that. Villa in some form so hopefully they can halt Newcastle on Saturday.

United keep going into tough away matches looking like they’d settle for a draw, then they inevitably lose.

United need to go to that Spurs game and treat it like a champions league qualifier

What injuries are mounting? Rashford is the only first team player out isn’t he?

Even in CL, many teams settle for a draw away from home. Spurs may not be mental monster but they have enough quality to hurt teams.

Desire to win is one thing. Getting tactic right is also important. Starting Weghorst and weird set up like against Newcastle doesn't help. Winning away from home is not given. It's easier said than done.

Shaw is out too. For impact player, it's Garnacho.

We have numbers, but in reality Rashford and Shaw (attacking) quality is difficult to replace.

This is as good as done. I reckon 71 points will be enough, so we basically need to beat Forest and Bournemouth away and win 3/5 against Villa, Fulham, Wolves, Chelsea, and West Ham (away). With Casemiro, Eriksen and Martial back, we won’t feck this up now. The six points this week have been huge.

Spurs have to play Newcastle, Liverpool and Villa away, and us at home...

I really don't seem them getting any more then 68 points max (and that's being generous)

We should be able to get 13 points from our last 9 games.

Varane, Martinez, Shaw, Rashford all out.

This is turning into a disaster. The EL is gone and there's a very good chance we won't have Champions League football next season.

The SKY is FALLING!!
i mean do people not have the right to worry now that we are missing our 2 cbs (maybe 1 if varane was just unlucky) and rashford? Honestly at this point going out to sevilla might be best so we can bubble wrap martial.

People have been overly worrying for going on 3 weeks now and telling us why they’re perfectly able to cry because if we lose v Brentford and Spurs wins v Southampton or if we drop points v Everton and Spurs win v Brighton we could go into our next league game outside of big 4 and OMG!!!
This thread is stupidly negative for a side who has spent the vast, vast majority of the season in the top 4 and it stopped making sense many weeks ago

You have to laugh at the arrogance on here for the last few months.

Those games against Palace, Leeds and Southampton were written off as no big deal, but how badly we need those points now.

Don’t you have to wait until we struggle before taking down to people?
A pre-emptive I told you so is a very bold choice to make

In what world is the EL gone? We're drawing with Sevilla and we are better than them. That doesn't mean we'll beat them, but how is it gone?

Mate, we're not beating them in Spain with Rashford, Shaw, Bruno, Martinez, Varane, and Garnacho all out. They'll shithouse their way through to a 1-0 win, or go through on penalties or something. We're much better at Old Trafford than we are away and Sevilla never ever let such an opportunity go in the Europa League.

This tie is over, we can only hope that it hasn't done too much damage to our chances in the league.

After tonight you start to worry about top four. We are losing players to strain injuries. Inevitable given how many games certain players have played.

They are average as feck. Tonight proved that again, we should have been 5-0 up.

Any team we can put out next week will still be superior to them.

We're still in this, Martial, Antony, and Eriksen are good options.

But we weren't 5-0 up. They've found a way and they'll find a way a week from now. Again, our starting back four will be AWB, Lindelöf, Maguire, Malacia. We won't have a single gamechanger on the bench, unless we start with Weghorst instead of Martial.

The usual clowns will be along soon, convinced that tonight's events were somehow a good thing for our top 4 hopes.

Don't be so mentally weak.

I had a bad feeling about the close of this season and it has managed to out do my lingering pessimism that I've had since the end of February.

We should never have been pushing this group of players so hard when there's no way they can handle it. Now we might drop out of the top 4 because we just had to make the semi's of a shit EL that we don't even fecking care about.

I'd agree if we hadn't lost Martinez, and potentially Varane.
Ole made top 4 twice with Slabhead and Lindelof. ETH is a better manager plus Varane will hopefully be a short term issue. Plus we have discovered that Shaw can play CB.

Spurs are rubbish and the rest have no chance.

Don't be so mentally weak.
Well, my mentality has, thankfully, no influence on the result. The players must believe they still have a chance because they're professional footballers but I can't pretend that we might somehow pull off a miracle.

Well we wont have any Europa league games in May. We will make top 4 no problem.
Our chances are still worse than pre match.

I'd rather we are still in the Europa as a get out of jail card if required anyway, ignoring the trophy, seeding and prize money that comes with it.

Sunday's match is must win now. Can't drop any silly points and let Spurs back in it before we face them. Figure EL is gone / much tougher after today so top 4 is our best chance and main focus now

We should just get over the line for top 4 just and hopefully Madrid will See Off Chelsea, however I hope people now realise with a Winter WC this was obvious to see, threadbare squad with no real quality past 13/14 players, and they would have to be overplayed to have any success this season.

The game is far more intensive and United have played 50 games this season wining 35, so let’s be clear here ETH has produced miracles and in his 21st cup game this season He’s won 18 Drawn 2 and lost 1 so this tie not over yet. I say all this knowing that we need huge investment and let’s be clear here, we should not be looking at selling Dalot or AWB when Tryel Mallacia at best is a Crystal Palace defender, let’s be honest it’s not his first horror show in a United shirt.

Let’s me get to the point, if your going to attempt to compete in 3 or 4 competitions and play 55-65 games each season you need a squad of 27/28 players as statistics show throughout the season you will always have 5-6 injured players. There is a reason you are now allowed to name 12 subs on the bench in Europe snd make a min of 5 In game sometimes 6 and name 9 in pl and make 5 subs.

As we go into our penultimate period our squad has the following players
injured (some out for the season);

R Varane, D Dalot, L Shaw, L Martinez, L Shaw, S Mctominay, A Garnaucho, M Rashford,

Previously; AWB, Dalot, Martial, Erikssen, Martial, Antony, Mctominay were all injured at periods between February and April.

Hopefully ETH learns players are not robots and the PL is the toughest in the world where you will get found out, he needed much more help in January but the parasites who own the club let him down like they have always done, one good transfer window, follows a bad season, then we have a good season relative to spend eg top 4 and maybe a cup win , then the following season when the manager wants to kick on, the imbeciles who own the club are more interested in taking dividends and then blaming and sack the manager that season when he doesn’t make the top 4, we’ve become a yo yo Champions league to Europa league club and that’s on Darcy, Avram, Joel, Bryan Edward and Kevin Glazier!

The United fanbase are not stupid, even if they stay they’ll end up falling out and sacking ETH because all they’ve ever been interested in is the additional money they get from qualifying for the CL. The best thing that they can do right now is the honourable thing, sell the club to either SJR or SJ and make sure it’s done by the end of the Month, we are hanging on desperately to our season and need a lift, some would say the club is a mirror reflection of its owners, desperately hanging on to a club they’ve never really had any chance of making successful!

Aston Villa vs Newcastle
Chelsea vs Brighton

Hope Villa and/or Chelsea can get results. Not sure Lampard’s Chelsea will but it’s at the Bridge so maybe.

Emery's Villa are practically as good as us and Newcastle so its interesting that they are going to face all the teams involved.

Looking to win any of the remaining PL games with Lindelof,Malacia and Maguire in defence will be more difficult. Could have to rely on Degea to produce MOTM displays and further up the field to knuckle down and grind out results. Pretty displays or dominating performances are highly unlikely to happen in the run-in.

If we can get through Forest with a win then we have 10 days until our next league game. Hopefully we get lucky and Shaw, Varane and Rashford are back for that game which is Spurs away (although to be honest I think we'll lose that anyway given our away record vs any half decent side).

The problem is, I don't see a world where this squad is good enough to simultaneously get to the final of the League Cup, FA Cup, Europa and finish top 4. Myself and others predicted this scenario as early as January when people were getting carried away with how good we were because we strung together a few wins after the world cup. You can't go all the way in 3 cup competitions and not pay the price in the league when the squad isn't very good to begin with, and we were always a couple of injuries to key players away from being in big trouble.
