Race for top 4 | Finito.

Think we’ll beat Everton and forest in the next 2 games. Spurs away will be tough and I’m worried we’re in for 1 more battering this season away to Brighton.
Hopefully we'll get a hammering vs Brighton, just like against Fulham, beating them 3-1.

I realize it is sacrilege - I do love beating Spurs and St Totteringham's Day. However, the pragmatist in me sees Newcastle as the bigger threat - them missing CL could stall their evolution into another Man City. Also loathe their time wasting, manager, the way they play and the players in their side. Just a scummy side all around.
Yes, calling us names is certainly going to hinder our development!! But you’re correct on qualification for CL, it will boost our income and ability to attract better players, young elite players like Bruno G and dare I say Isak.

It's only nerves clouding anybodys opinion.

Spurs are spurs, and they have a tough run of fixtures coming up
Brighton look like a dark horse but they still have 4 tough away games and United at home
Liverpool are gone. We've just had a run of 4 points from 12. If ever they were going to close in it would have been then, but they've made up no ground at all, despite beating us in that period

I really can't see any other outcome than 3rd or 4th

Newcastle look strong again, but once we have pretty much everyone back fit, I am confident enough that we can have a better points record than them over the final 10 games.

Looking at our fixtures, we will surely win at least five of the remaining 10. I think our cushion is enough so long as we don't lose both games to Spurs and Brighton, but even if we do, they have more difficult games left IMO.

Spurs and Brighton play each other on the weekend, with the former still having to go away to Newcastle & Liverpool (and even Aston Villa in great form). Brighton still have away games at Chelsea & Arsenal (and Villa) along with a home game against Man City.

I really fancy us and Newcastle to pull away in the next 2-3 games and there's gonna be a cluster of teams in the the rest of the top half: Spurs, Brighton, Aaron Villa, Liverpool could finish in any order. I think Brentford, Fulham and Chelsea will duke it out for the remaining top half places with one of them of course failing.

hopefully brighton and spurs draw this weekend and we take care of business against everton. Would calm things down as we get Case back in there and hopefully eriksen soon.

I've still got a tiny bit of hope for Brighton. They really are inoffensive, no-one minds them getting 4th surely?

Brighton getting top 4 would be ideal. Many things to admire about that club. I think they will fall short though.

does 4th still have to play the qualifying round for UCL or do they go straight in to the group stages?

Group stage. Had been years since UEFA ditched the qualifying round for Serie A, La Liga, PL and Bundesliga. Better commercial value to ensure the top league teams at least play in group stage.

I downplay my own teams chances a bit, well try to be a realist rather than a pessimist I would say, so I can see why others on here do it, but I can't really see any other scenario than Utd and Newcastle getting top 4 now. Looking at the fixtures, I just can't see any of the others being consistent enough to win enough games to get more points than both these teams.

if we don't find someone to put the ball in the net besides rashford we are one tackle away from being fuked

I've become so conditioned to disappointment that I'm still convinced we will blow it. Having said that, top 6 would still be an incredible season for us.

I don't see any scenario where Manchester United don't finish in the top 4.

Is there a way Liverpool could sneak up in the race? The only tough game they have left is Arsenal away... after that it's games they should win quite easily.
I really hope they keep playing shite though... seeing both them and Chelsea not get any kind of european action next season would be hilarious

They've spent all season dropping points to absolute dross.

It's possible but unlikely. Would mean:
(a) them going on a consistent run and winning most of their remaining matches
(b) United or Newcastle having a major slump
And
(c) Spurs and Brighton not doing similar.

Book Everton first and then see who else drops points.
Then we should have Casemiro and Eriksen back which will help to an unreal level.

If martial can get into any sort of form that'll be huge too.

Does anyone know what the situation is regarding qualifying rounds next season for 3rd and 4th places?

Sometimes, not having Euro nights helps with the domestic campaign. Although Chelsea has such a bloated squad, they could use the extra games.

Of course... that's the downside of them not being in europe. Still fun to see both of them go an entire season without it

Yeah, but I fear they will find some kind of form again... just hoping Arsenal will do them good and kill of the chances a bit

I can sadly see all of that happen... we've been so incosistent this season and with EL and FA-cup still on the schedule it's a tough run. Spurs and Brighton aren't exactly reliable teams either

It's Arsenal at Anfield, not away.

Anything is possible but it's very unlikely.

Newcastle and United are trending towards 72 points at their current PPG, and Liverpool's maximum possible is 73.

Liverpool would need 27 points out of 30 remaining to reach the 70 point mark for example. Even with an easy fixture list I don't see them winning 90% of their games, and they've been losing to relegation candidates all season long.

We could do with Arsenal getting a result this weekend to put the final nail in the coffin for them though.

I do fear the points total needed won't end up anywhere near 72 though as we're looking really bad and fatigued at the minute, it's not impossible we end up on something like 67 or 68 which opens the door for Liverpool or Spurs.

I think 10 points will be too much for Liverpool to claw back, the games they should win quite easilly are the kind of games they've been losing all season.

Their next 3 league games are against teams that have already beaten them this season.

@Dominos yes we are looking a bit jaded currently but thankfully it looks like we will be getting back Eriksen very soon, Casemiro ends his suspension and Martial is now back. This will be a big boost to the squad and hopefully get us over the hump these last 10 league games

If they win every game left (10 games) they can at most have 73 points. Looking at our fixtures I'm guessing United ends on 72-75 points and Newcastle ends on 68-71 points. Basically... Liverpool needs to be perfect to get 4th.

6 points clear of Spurs with the same amount of games played.

They really can't afford to drop more points before we play them at the end of the month.

Also if I remember correctly, I believe we effectively get 5 places next season with the rule changes about countries performing the best getting an extra space.

It’s been the lesser teams that have been Liverpools problem. Their record against teams in the bottom half has been shocking this season. They’ve blown top 4 now.

Our home form this season has been fantastic: only one defeat on the opening day of the season and out of our remaining 4 home games (Chelsea, Fulham, Wolves, and Villa) I expect us to get at least 10 points. Away form hasn't been great but I would expect the minimum of say 7 points out of the remaining games of Forest, Bournemouth, West Ham, Brighton and Spurs.

73 points should do it, right?

Will Newcastle drop points again this season? Their run-in is really kind; their only major opponent is Arsenal.

Spurs should also feck off now. How are they still so close...

Worrying with us playing Forest new manager bounce and then Spurs away although Spurs and Newcastle have to play eachother.

I think we’re all good but I was hoping at least one of them would drop points today! Especially given the half time score lines. Right pisstake.

I feel sick for Brighton after that criminal refereeing performance, I can’t imagine how Brighton fans feel.

I mean Spurs are absolutely fecking awful.

Sounds like they've completely robbed Brighton today.
