Queen Elizabeth II | 1926-2022 | Rest in Peace

Comments like this?

Some of the comments have been shocking, Hansi Flick style of comments. Comments questioning the over the top responses from people saying that she was one of the greatest people to every live are not shocking. There's nothing disrespectful about asking why this event, out of all the others affecting the world right now, is being treated like the worst story to happen in recent months.

Millions of people in this country are living in actual POVERTY, but this is more important than that to some people. Says a lot about them.
And then there’s people like me wondering whether I should be taking hits for transfers when there might not be any games this week.

So I assume y'all going to continue this constitutional monarchy experiment?
I would think that whilst not celebrating the woman's death it will have brought us closer towards the end than the beginning of this 'experiment'.

People are more upset that someone got banner for making vile comments than the death of an actual human being. I guess it's the new world we live in nowdays.
Stop being a sweaty old tart and acting so melodramatic.

This sounds like a really 'heat of the moment' emotional response. Once the media frenzy is over people will get on with their lives like nothings changed.

Yes but that's.... Normal? Life moves on. But this day/time period will be remembered for ages. And not just by a small few but quite a lot of people. Of course not to the same effect as it is now but they will remember - it is historic

Life moves on and that's natural, but to say or suggest people will forget about it is not true. It's not like a sports person dying, it's someone who almost the whole world has grown up knowing (for good or bad)

I'm sorry but how exactly? The sun will come up tomorrow, you'll still have Brexit and those Tory pricks in govt. Literally nothing will change.
He didn't say anything meaningful would change. When Jfk died and Diana the world kept turning. As it will when every human is long but dust. Doesn't make it not a significant day.

I don't know if you are aware but you are incorrect in as much as the Queen has always had the opportunity to change Acts of Parliament in favour of herself and family, particularly in ensuring new Tax adjustments are made in her favour and exempted. That sort of thing for starters is 'real power' over the serfs.

Sure but Her Maj saving a bit of tax amounts to pennies compared to the Chicago School/Thatcherite reshaping of the UK economy over the last 40 Years. It’s a bit like blaming the (admittedly ridiculous) Phil Jones contract for United being useless.

Whether she was alive or dead it has no tangible or practical impact on 99% of people's lives. Most people are worried about the cost of living and energy prices rising. She's just another famous person who has died and will be remembered in the history books because of it.

@Hansi Fick spending half his posts wumming but then finally getting banned for saying something most of the caf probably agree with.
I’m surprised he got banned on a non-footballing matter considering his footballing views are more often than not utter bollocks.

He reminds me of Steve Irwin who played with lions all his life and got killed by a stingray.

I’m enjoying watching the angsty folks who are upset that people are honoring the queen. Longest reigning monarch in UK history, of course folks are gonna come out and experience that kind of historical event.

I'm not at all surprised or upset no matter how odd I find it. Since living through the VE day scale celebrations after the Falklands War, which I found quite disturbing, and the death of Diana, which was close to mass hysteria, nothing about Brits celebrating being ruled by hereditary toffs will surprise me. Although to be fair if you do want that system of government the Queen wasn't as bad as it could have been.

The Queen was a very rich woman whose estate will pay no Death Taxes, that is more than just a few pennies.

Don't get me started on Thatcher, besides - not the topic and a different layer of corruption, not greater, not lesser. :)

Obviously day to day life has to go on and nobody is arguing that. I am arguing that that this is a big moment in history. It doesn't change people's lives in most places in a few months time other than "it's weird to see Charles do Christmas speech"

But her death, as of today and then next 10 days it's a big moment because that's all people will see - especially in the UK.

Also as for impact, yeah maybe nothing really in the UK will be impacted long term except singing 'God save the King' but the commonwealth who have Queen head of state may be thinking it's time to stop that

Ultimately I am not saying this will have an impact on people's lives long term, but it is a big moment in history and it's no surprise people are feeling whatever they are

Just because people feel sad or whatever doesn't mean they think it impacts their day to day life

This place is just out of reality. Got people who were arguing with me when i posted this is a momentous moment in our lifetimes.

They're a boiling pot of negative piss

feck sake. What an appalling post.

I hope someone bans this bastard.
Was he really banned for that comment? :wenger:
would be a fecking travesty if its a perm ban for that

He wasn't banned for that comment being anti-royal but he was given a warning for the good riddance bit and not for the anti-royal bit. He is temp banned because this latest warning again tipped him over into a second temporary ban. And it wasn't anything to do with the nationality of the mod who gave the warning.

I mean if you're a royalist it will be a big moment in history. For most it's just another famous person dying (admittedly she ranks quite high in terms of fame).

The same way Michael Jackson fans consider his death a big moment in history.

Atleast with the latter you can still experience his legacy through his music.

The new national anthem will take some getting used to. Unless they change it to something completely different.

They said one of the most momentous days of our lives. Possibly the most melodramatic statements I've ever read, just to continue the hyperbolic theme.

Momentous: of great importance or significance, especially in having a bearing on future events.

They meant something else. Perhaps significant as you said but not momentous.

And I'm certainly not arguing for the concept of the monarchy. Personally I think it's outdated and a bit ridiculous. But people celebrating an old woman's death should legitimately take a look at themselves.

Not that I'm advocating for crass comments but at this point there is no meaningful distinction between The Queen as a person and as an institution.

Good old dictionary

Huh? The only change is substituting King for Queen and changing any feminine pronouns to masculine. I think most will find it incredibly easy.

Watching the news tonight showing her from 52 till now. She really enjoyed being Queen right till the end. So touching to watch her from so young and now to read the negativity is disappointing but not surprising. RIP
