Do you think the UK would better off with, say a president? We become a Republic? Its the same shit different guise.
Absolutely100% yes. Hereditary monarchy is a ludicrous anachronism.

Ok. We'll see.Literally no different, because the landscape isn't really affected by their existence.
And how's that gona play out?Absolutely100% yes. Hereditary monarchy is a ludicrous anachronism.
Replacing one with many.Absolutely100% yes. Hereditary monarchy is a ludicrous anachronism.
Last time you tried that you ended up inviting the monarchy back from exile. No, we just get rid of the monarchy and stay as we are politically.
Ok. We'll see.
I'm certain things are not going to be the same.
And how's that gona play out?
Replacing one with many.
When was the last time you met a die hard republican? The very notion of this gives them the biggest erection you've ever seen.
But that's like 400 years ago. British politics have moved on 320 years since.Last time you tried that you ended up inviting the monarchy back from exile.
Have they? But that's like 400 years ago. British politics have moved on 320 years since.
Ireland?Seems to have worked out very well in say Ireland.
I want a British republic, but you have to admit her personal popularity meant that most felt unable to criticise her. Anyway, it is likely the other realms where Charles is Head of State will move to republics over the coming years.
She did. Will her heir? I severely doubt itwhat will change? they don't impact anything

Alright she's no Oliver Cromwell... but at least there's a Charles to dethrown if she want's to give it a go.Have they?
You’ve just replaced Boris Johnson with Liz Truss…
That's nothing. Pocket change to a country's wealth. What's these other billions your talking about? What other than personal, is these other billions? One?
Pretty sure we can do a republic for less than 100 million a year. And that is before we nationalise some or all of the billions the royals currently control.
Don’t let the skirt fool you. I’ve seen what she said about the monarchy.Alright she's no Oliver Cromwell... but at least there's a Charles to dethrown if she want's to give it a go.
He’s talking about the Duchy of Lancaster and Duchy of Cornwall. That's nothing. Pocket change to a country's wealth. What's these other billions your talking about? What other than personal, is these other billions?

Honestly it would be hilarious if a conservative PM opened that can of worms while brexit, covid and Ukraine war are still ongoing.Don’t let the skirt fool you. I’ve seen what she said about the monarchy.
He’s talking about the Duchy of Lancaster and Duchy of Cornwall.
Shush...he only thinks the King has moneyHe’s talking about the Duchy of Lancaster and Duchy of Cornwall.
The billions they own isn't personal. It was fleeced from us all (and others). That's nothing. Pocket change to a country's wealth. What's these other billions your talking about? What other than personal, is these other billions?
Look. You weren't alive neither were 99% of this forum when the Queen fleeced anybody. So don't pretend it's your money, or your special. We all pay taxes and it all goes to someone. Monarchy or notThe billions they own isn't personal. It was fleeced from us all (and others).
The Duchy of Cornwall was established in the 1300s, so it would definitely be hard to determine who got “fleeced” there.

Hence... Mr Wibble. Some greedy fecker will steal your lunch money. Be calm
When was the last time you met a die hard republican?
I'd say I was one but none of that makes me hard. I just think it is ludicrous that we have a hereditary monarchy. Doubly so in Australia, where I now live.
Well, the Duchy predates Britain, and the Earldom of Cornwall that it was formed from predates the Norman Conquest, so I’m still saying you’ll have a hard time paying back whoever is actually due anything. The British people.

The Queen, and now the King own 50,000 acres at Balmoral, another 20,000 acres at Sandringham, numerous palaces and grace & favour mansions, homes and apartments let alone the duchys etc (Duchies I guess). All passed on endlessly.Never got why so many give the Royals a pass on their self interested meddling with our democracy. Queen's consent for example.
Seems like some mass form of Stockhome Syndrome to me.
Okay… but what’s that got to do with their land holdings? It wouldn't be very hard to give all the stuff we stole back that we're proudly displaying in glass cases. That's something the monarchy could very easily do.
I forget that republican is a thing outside of the US. In the US Republicans will vote in anyone that'll do exactly that, it's their wet dream.
is the problem not that monarchy implies some people are born better than other people? born to be better. and for no reason except historical "might is right" when their family members killed loads of people to get to where they are.Monarchy or not
