Queen Elizabeth II | 1926-2022 | Rest in Peace

She has the constitution of a horse. Nothing can take her down. Not old age, Covid, the death of a beloved spouse or her son being a diddler.

I want to choose my words carefully so as not to cause offence, but she's a brick shithouse of a monarch.

@Sweet Square is throwing a house party when she croaks.

I'm getting tired of speculating, she thinks she can fob us of with holograms while we the people don't even get a shred of proof she's alive.

Shit just seen the title, has she died? It’s June 6th today for reference.

horsechoker. the queen likes horses. the royal family look has long been described as “horsey” this has been his plan all along.

Wait we've gone from daily to monthly? At her age we should be going from daily to hourly.

The Monarchy should pass when she passes to be brutally honest.

Charles is considerably less popular than the Queen and I'd expect there to be increased scrutiny and criticism of the whole institution after he is crowned. Overall though, there are 43 sovereign states in the world with a monarch as head of state and I don't see the UK leaving that list anytime soon.

In this day and age its disgusting that these people are put on a pedestal and funded luxurious lifestyles for the sake of it.

Is it just that last link to the classist past that the public just can't let go. Do they provide that shield from what the UK actually is these days?

GB just isn't what the royalist wants it to be anymore. Its a modern society that is fundamentally at odds with each other pretending they aren't. Like alot of other countries.

Tbf I bet a lot of these people don’t even believe what they say. If Southgate came out and said she’s pointless and Monarchy should be abolished he’d be pilloried and probably lose his job.
Yeah. I can understand it from his point of view really. Just a PR. But when common people say that, it is funny. Plus the tourists coming for the Royal family and stuff argument.

Yeah, might as well replace the Royal family with Disneyland and that would be more profitable.

if we didn’t have the queen all we’d be known for is drinking, doing cocaine, fighting and then moaning about foreign football fans who are better at fighting.

What's the alternative? Its either the monarchy or communism and dictatorship.

(some of the stuff I've read online)

It'd be a parliamentary republic where you have a Prime Minister and a President. A lot of countries that use that system are really no different from our monarchy where the power is still with government and the head of state has reserve powers to make sure the constitution is upheld. Of course, we'd need a constitution first, or we would need judges to mediate on decisions.

Ahhhh, sorry. I get that now after re-reading your post. Let's go with dictatorship then, as that's what Johnson would go for!

On Thursday when they were Trooping the Colour it was also a Bank Holiday in Italy, Republic Day. I watched the President lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

There were various branches of the military in very complicated and fancy uniforms, bands, all the same stuff. The only difference was that instead of Prince Charles walking up the steps, it was the President of the Republic.

It did occur to me that we could have a republic in the UK and still keep all the same things that people like now, all the pomp and ceremony.

If we had no monarchy then a completely non-political president would be my preference. As you say 'really no different'. At least with Queenie and Charles (who learned eventually) we can be pretty sure they will be non-political, with anyone else there could be a doubt.

I would be a republican rather than a monarchist in theory but the thing is, it's working, so I don't see any reason to change in the near future.

If not sooner :)

Except what would Australia do? We plainly don't feel mature enough to govern ourselves yet and need some posh foreigner to do it for us.
