Queen Elizabeth II | 1926-2022 | Rest in Peace

They did a grand job, fair play to them.

Reminds me of the scene from Mouse Hunt

Only 40% of 18-24 year olds support the monarchy.

If you could get the majority of 24-49 years old then the majority wouldn't be in favour of the Monarchy. As the older generation passes I think there's a good chance that people will be anti monarchy. It's the same with how secular countries are in the west now comparative to 100 years ago.

It's not just the age bracket but the number of people alive in those age categories, the majority of the worlds population is under 30 due to mortality rates in other nations. But the population in Britain is right skewed. The other issue is still that when it comes to voting the older generation is more likely to show up to vote.

I'm neither for or against the Monarchy in general mind.

But what does it mean exactly. Anti monarchy as it is now or (rightfully) as it was in the past? The 40% is actually surprisingly positive. given the young vote tendency to be massively against anything like this. Would 40% of that age range support the tories for example?

I'm watching this with my mum. It's funny how she goes back and forth between praising QE2 and hating Prince Charles.

I think in favour of abolishing the Monarchy, voters tend to be people on extremes ends of spectrums though. And it doesn't really matter as most people would vote to keep the Monarchy now (certainly the older generation) and would be more likely to show up to vote.

Either way it would never reach that stage, the political climate would never allow a vote on the future of Monarchy

I've been busy packing for a house move and missed this. Can't seem to find any giflord vids of the highlights/ key points in the threadmarks.

Does anyone know if there is a quick highlights video or do I have to stay up for Match of the Day highlights?

I think QE2 is a hard act to follow, it's like going from SAF to Moyes.

I think Charles would be much more liked if Diana and him worked out and she was still with us. I know many people of other nations and I've lived abroad for quite a lot of my life. People I know from Latin countries and from Asian countries adored the Queen and also Diana but they seem to dislike Charles.

Camila I think not everyone likes either which doesn't help.

You can skip through the Sky News livestream quite easily

I heard there were 40k watching worldwide on t'internet. Get the numbers up man.

How can you have an opinion on whether the proceedings are thrilling or not when you haven't watched any of it?

I was commenting on how thrilling your descriptions (and others) sound. Hence "Sounds like absolutely thrilling stuff"

Anyway, I'm off to rewatch last night's House of the Dragon. I wager I'll be watching a more exciting royal event than pallbearers walking up steps.

As someone who had to live with a looney, I don't blame Charles for getting out before it fecked him up too.

3 brits left that'll be hard are David Attenborough, Sir Alex and Paddington Bear

Maybe Ian McKellen too

I'd honestly grief like I would a close family member the day Fergie passes on. I was a terrible mess the day he announced his retirement, let alone him passing on.

I'm from an Asian country and my family happens to have close ties to the UK. I just find it funny how I never knew how much disdain my mum has for Prince Charles until today.

40k? The Mirror's stream had 250 viewers.
That's only considered a good turn out at the etihad.

I have enjoyed listening to them repeatedly honour her achievements of having lived through so many Prime Ministers and Presidents. As if the only positive of her reign they can think of is that she grew quite old.

Incredible work by the pallbearers. Hope they are nominated for the Nobel prize and the oscars.

Had it on all day and thought, as funerals go, it was actually brilliant. Alot of it was very moving. The removal of the crown on the casket and onto the pillow, the parade and the music that accompanied it. It was an unbelievable ceremony matched by none other in the world. I had very little attachment to the royals before and not much more if any today, but i had a huge amount of respect for her as the matriarch of our country and she will be missed. Not by many of you cnuts in here though evidently.

Queen‘s lead lined coffin was estimated to weigh between 550 - 700lbs (a bit like carrying Luke Shaw) the eight pall bearers should be commended.

I was thinking how did I miss the removal of the coffin, but I don't think they showed it, did they? Just the piper walking away and the dying down of the music.

Yea, they started lowering it whilst the Rev was speaking and cut to the piper as the last part went in

Hang on a minute, after all this the past 2 weeks her actual funeral is in private with family & friends?!?!

Portuguese private news channels have been non-stop pro-monarchy propaganda in the last 10 hours. Idiot after idiot spouting non-stop lies and crazy fake facts about how great the monarchy is. The portuguese monarchic party had less than 300 votes in the last national election. It's complete insanity.
