Quaresma leaving Porto

Anderson didn't cost us £24m though, it was much less than that.

As for Quaresma, whether he's worth that sort of money or not remains to be seen. Prices for average and good players have drifted up recently, while top players usually go for less than they used to in the past. In contemporary market you cannot really expect to go out and sign a good, proven offensive player for less than £12m or even £15m, unless you are after a player with a particularly bad injury record.

Crazy money for him.

Crazy money but exactly what they need, and some times you have to pay over the odds when needs must. There really weren't any other options as a winger for Inter and that is what they really needed. The only other viable option was Arshavin but he doesn't seem too fond of the Serie A.

If you want to compare prices, how much did an injury prone Robben go for? Quaresma clearly has the talent and means a lot to Porto and thus, the large fee. If Mourinho can get the best out of him then we'll see if he's worth the price.

Robben is definitely a much better player though. There is definitely a price premium on wingers in the current market though.

Yeah but Robben is/was injury prone so it's a fairer comparison as he would be devalued quite a bit.

Quaresma To Inter: Done Deal?

24197_news.jpg

FC Porto star Ricardo Quaresma is reportedly very close to joining Inter Milan after weeks of intense negotiations between the two clubs.

Reports emanating from Portugal claim that an Inter Milan delegation is currently in Oporto to tie up a deal for the classy winger.

Quaresma has restated his wish for a new challenge on many occasions and Mourinho is eager to bring him to Giuseppe Meazza, having failed to capture his prime target, Roma's Mancini.

The Italian club are reluctant to meet Porto's asking price of €40 million for Quaresma - the figure set in the release clause attached to his contract.

But the Nerazzurri are looking at other possibilities and may well include one of their players in the deal.

News daily O JOGO reports that Honduran David Suazo or Portuguese central midfielder Pelé are strong possibilities to be added to the Quaresma deal.

It is further reported that the Italian champions will spend a fee of €25 million for Quaresma, who has now another chance to succeed abroad after a disappointing stint at Barcelona.

Negotiations between Porto and Inter Milan are believed to be at an advanced stage and a deal could be reached in the next few hours.

Interesting the comments about Suazo possibly being added to the deal... I'd be happy to take him as a Saha replacement. And I'm sure SAF will be aware of him if he is available, after the 2 goals he scored against us pre-season last year.

Wow, you could be a marvellous scout for us. Get in there lad.

Suazo? He's had a fairly awful season with Inter and doesn't really have much else other than good pace and dribbling ability.

Everton boss Moyes plans Quaresma loan talks

Everton boss David Moyes is eyeing a loan move for Inter Milan winger Ricardo Quaresma.

The Mirror says Moyes wants to strengthen his squad in January and has already put Middlesbrough wideman Adam Johnson on his hit-list.

But Moyes only had a limited budget and Boro may be reluctant to sell which has left him looking around Europe for different options.

Quaresma, 26, is out of favour at Inter Milan and available for a loan spell with the Italian club hoping to offload the Portuguese winger next summer for around £8m. That has alerted Everton, Paris Saint Germain and Napoli as Quaresma is desperate to get first team football in the New Year to boost his World Cup chances if Portugal make next summer’s finals in South Africa.

I can never keep up with this guy, so he's at Inter now. He's got to be bordering on taking Anlekas crown for the biggest journeyman.

Quaresema is victim of a series of bad decisions which ruined his career. First he went at Barca where he fell out of the manager's graces almost immediately. Then after a good spell in Portugal he went to Inter where the concept of wingers simply doesn't exist (Mancini suffered a similar fate). He is not Cristiano Ronaldo but he is not a bad player.

add in to that he couldnt get many games for chelsea I think about 5 subs apperences?... so he has failed at barca, inter and chelsea (they certainly didnt want him after the loan spell)

He always seemed to thrive in portugal though so perhaps he is one of those players who needs to be the star of the team?

He has undoubted skill and who knows he could have a couple of storming games in the world cup and go to another top club (but he would probably fail again)... I wouldnt be surprised if he went back to portugal

Its difficult to say since it can be countered by stating that he went to the wrong clubs. At Barca he fell out the manager almost immediately. At Inter he was the first victim of Mourinho trying to reinventing the wheel (ie introducing the flanks in a team who had played with flank men before) and at Chelsea they only wanted him as a cover. God knows what Quaresema would do if he is offered a decent chance in a team that actually play with players like him + are ready to give him a decent run.

he has got talent... and if he plays in the world cup and turns it on for a few games maybee he will go to a "top club"... but unless that happens im not sure a so called top club will take the chance with him?

I could see portgese clubs wanting him as they know what a success he can be in that league but im just not sure i could see a top premiership, seria a or la liga side taking a punt on a player who will be 27 next season

I guess jose wanted him to add more to his game

However, Quaresma has since found opportunities in the Inter XI limited as Inter boss José Mourinho stated:

"He is a great talent, but the joy I have at seeing the way Ibra [ Zlatan Ibrahimović ] works for and with the team I do not yet have with Quaresma. He will have to learn, otherwise he won’t play, and I am sure he'll change and become more tactically disciplined. He likes kicking the ball with the outside of his foot, but if you ask me about him in a few months' time, we'll be talking about a different Quaresma."

but I guess he didnt...

dont know if that goes down to the coaching or to the player... but as you said he fell out with a coach at barca as well...

deffinatley a talented player but not lived up to his reputation outside portugal yet...

was it jose who actually signed him for inter?
