QPR v Manchester United (Friendly) Saturday 24th July 2021 @ 3pm BST | 4-2 loss

I really don't think many of our young players have a future here. Probably only Amad, Elanga, Pellistri and Mejbri to be honest.

Also what an absolute joke that we still have Peireira here stinking up the place.

Only? If all four end up having a career here that would be an amazing success rate.

It's clear we lack squad depth. The current backup squad can't beat a championship side. Yet we will need to rely on them over a 60+ game season?
We aren't ready to challenge on all fronts. That's obvious now.

I would say this is our backup 11 :

------------------Greenwood
--------Martial----VdB-----Amad
-----------------Matic---Fred
-Telles--Lindelof--Tuanzebe--Dalot
---------------------Heaton

Its not terrible tbh. We could do with a better backup RB though.

Granted the result wasn't great but Ole needs to have a look at all these fringe players and youth players to know which ones he needs to send out on loan or sell, will be more interesting when a few more senior players are back.

Safe to say Pereira, Lingard and Tuanzabe can be sold for nominal fees as soon as possible. Shite. Not even reserve level

One concern from today is that last season Man Utd were very lucky with injuries. Given the recent history and a demanding Euros is anyone confident on such luck holding out again....and if it doesn't are you confident of the second string ?

Ah, this myth again.
It feels like most of what you contribute on here is slightly snidy remarks about posters and posts that seemingly work against your own perception of reality. That doesn't really add much to the debate, actually it only triggers other responses on the same kindergarden-level.

Obviously we shouldn't expect too much of a team of fringe and youth team players against a championship team close to their season start. But we have seen similar displays last season as soon as we used squad depth so there potentially is a pattern.
I don't think, it should be counted as a myth, that the current managing team seem to demand a more situation oriented approach that asks more from the individual players in terms of vision and decision making than for example a rigid systematic approach like Van Gaals. Some players thrive more under the first regime, some more under the other. Don't see a myth there.

Nope. All would play above that level with clarity and coaching, which every player we sell shows time and time again: Lingard for West Ham, Sanchez, Darmian, and Young for Inter, Smalling for Roma, and so on. They don't play well because they don't know what to do when on the pitch.

Moyes is better than Ole and that's why Lingard is doing better? Is that what you are saying?

And Paulo Fonseca is better than Ole and that's why Smalling has done better?

Conte is obviously better but I still wouldn't want him.

Have you considered maybe there are alternate reasons why they are doing better? Here's a few.

1. Maybe they are actually not doing all that better, you're just not seeing them every game. Example Smalling at Roma.

2. Maybe their team plays on the counter, so has more space, and also the team/ and player faces less pressure. Example Lingard at W Ham.

3. Maybe the league is easier, example Darmian and Young. Sanchez hasn't even done that well.

I myself am not convinced about Ole's coaching credentials but disagree with your post quite a bit.

It's a bullshit claim, debunked numerous times, posted by a chronic moaner. I'm giving it the only response it deserves.

I saw PNE of the championship beat Stoke of the PL in a pre season friendly once, PNE were relegated to league one that season.

Why are people losing their shit? It means nothing.

You would think that some of our fringe players will use this opportunity to make a push into the first team. or perhaps we are truly over reliant on individual talent.
Where is the pochetino guy that says we have a better squad than man city
Our squad is not far of from City. City has a strong first 11 and so do we, but their bench and reserve isn’t much better than ours. I rather have the likes of Diallo, Pellestri, mejbri, Elanga, Tuanzebe, shoretire, garner, williams, laird, mengi, and levitt in our squad than what City has. I did not even account for the more experienced fringe player like Lingard, vdb, Henderson, Peirera and so on. So our squad is not worse than city on paper. But, obviously City are much better coached.

Yep our first XI will play to the death again I think.

https://www.sportekz.com/football/manchester-united-players-salaries/amp/

Our squad is not that good to finish second in the toughest league in the world if they were not to know what to do on the pitch. It's down to less pressure, playing for a team which suit their style more and easier league imo. It works for some and doesn't for some, like Schneiderlin, Pereira, Fosu Mensah etc.
A lot of those salaries look out of whack. AWB on 120k when he was earning 10x less than that at Crystal Palace? Telles on 150k when he was on like 3x less than that at his previous club? DVB on 170k?

Additionally, a lot of those wages include bonuses which is why I'm confident Williams doesn't earn that full amount.

Was talking about the previous game. The 2 misses I mentioned were in today's game(including the one you mentioned).

Ehh, lets see. I wouldnt hold my breath.
He only played 15 minutes not because he was horrible but because we also wanted to give minutes to Hannibal. And Hugill is the furthest from the first team so he was swapped out.

It didn't happen in a vacuum. Subs in preseason aren't usually related to performance.

Delusonal.

Get over to Paris, you'll be much happier there.

 preseason friendly meltdown
If United don't win 5-0 without the other side having a single chance then it's basically the end of the world.

Having watched United throughout the 1980's I'm somewhat less inclined to get over excited either way

Some people seriously need to take a break from football and/or supporting United for a season or two, and come back a little less reactionary and toxic. Not everything has to be a reason to moan.

What the hell is Perreira and Lingard doing anywhere near this squad still. OK this team will look completely different come the first game but to have these 2 especially Perreira still taking big wages just smacks of massive incompetence.

Feels so assuring, that we have people guarding law and order at this place.

I am not familiar with any debunkings - may I ask you for some content out of interest? (Just to be sure, the myth is, that we often rely on moments of individual brilliance, right?)

Absolutely. I don't understand all this negativity now. This is a pre season match. The transfer window is still open. He needs to get them to play.
It's not as if all these players are going to playing in the same team. If they are the back up they would come in individually to replace one player.

Yea, I bet you are the same fan that taught Lingard, Depay, adm, Lukaku and so on was shite, until they went to other club and prove you wrong. we have a lot of talent in our squad, and with a better manager they will see significant improvement. A good manager can make these players we have play beyond their level, not just the established stars we have already.

It's a pre-season friendly and you barely had any first teamers, results are irrelevant.

That being said, I am asking for permission from the sensible Man United fans to wind up the idiots who are moaning about the result. You know they deserve it!
Have at em. Fecking idiots.

Agreed the VDB 170k Telles 150k seem not true. Most sources say VDB 120k, Telles 80-100k.

Anyway do a google search on Williams weekly wage and you'd see. I also found an article:
https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/brandon-williams-sees-wages-rocket-22467794

Last year Williams was reportedly on 40-43k a week so imo it's true that this year he's on ~60k.

Because some folk are too dumb and don’t understand the concept of what pre-season is supposed to be about.

Unpopular opinion: at least while Rashford is out on surgery and until he regains form, play Sancho on the left and play Pellistri on the right. That Uruguayan kid is simply sensational. Much better deal than playing Martial on the left and sitting Pellistri on the bench, if you ask me.

P.S. While considered a right-winger, Sancho played second half of last year in Bundesliga on the left and was even more effective than on the right.

Eh?

We're missing:
De Gea
Henderson
Maguire
Lindelof
Bailly
Jones
Shaw
Telles
Dalot
Pogba
McTominay
VDB
Fred
Bruno
Martial
Sancho
Rashford
Cavani

That's 17 and a half first team players missing from our starting XI with another couple of players we're likely to sign before the window. That's not remotely close to a back up squad. It was an u23 squad, with one first team fullback and a few peripheral seniors.

Because some folk are too dumb and don’t understand the concept of what pre-season is supposed to be about.
OK, but that said we can still see that Tuanzebe and Mengi are nowhere good for being our CB backups. We need to sign Varane ASAP, making Lindelof our backup.

Hang on. hang on, hang on.

Are you claiming that Moyes, West Ham’s manager, an ex-Man Utd manager who didn’t even last a full season, can tell the players exactly what to do and coach them to “be better”.

Because I for one didn’t see it in that season.

Outstanding reasoning for Ole Out.

Ole Out, Moyes In according to Mickson!

Inform all our youngsters and players like Peireira, Lingard, Tuanzebe and James that pre season doesn’t matter.

Most of them have a limited time and a few pre season games to impress Ole and our management team. One good game or some impressive moments can be the difference between being sold, going out on a loan or being a squad player. I say this means everything to half of our squad. Otherwise they are in the wrong club.

Secondly. The result often reflect the quality of how we play, pre season or not. If we dominate and end up with 70%+ possession that’s one thing but to lose with 4-2 against a Championship team isn’t something to just shrug off your shoulders like it means nothing. United must have a higher standard then accepting mediocrity just because we play with youngsters and squad players.

Ole needs to clamp his foot down and be a little bit ruthless. Send a message to all our players that every game, every moment counts. Ole is a good man manager and now with his new contract in his pocket it’s time to show character. Sir Alex wasn’t directly afraid of shake things up. I hope Ole has the balls to do the same if necessary.

The myth is that all players who leave us improve greatly because we're just such a mess and it's because Ole is a clueless idiot (and let's not talk about how these players weren't better under previous managers.) His given examples were Sanchez, Young, Darmian (all bang average squad players for Inter), Smalling (plays exactly the same for Roma as he did for us) and Lingard (went through a purple patch, no dissimilar from the Messi Lingard period, before fading badly.)

And you're not really one to be lecturing anyone on how to post.

These matches are an opportunity for backups and youngsters to showcase what they can do in hope to fight for a regular place, or to find a bid. If they shine or show something in these matches they're more likely to get a chance in the season. Like the lad Elanga, he surely should and would get a chance.

I did hope the youngsters would show something, however it seems most of them are pretty far from ready for the PL. Not writing them off, just not ready yet.

Losing a friendly, no big deal. But let's be honest the performance of our backups, like Tuanzebe, Lingard, Pereira, Williams, Mata, Matic were pretty wank. Imo all of them should not be here except Williams. Let's hope Telles, Martial, VDB can show us something more positive than what they showed us last season.

Have you considered that both you and people saying this result didn't matter may be correct, at the same time?

This result didn't matter for United, for all the reasons stated. It did matter for youngsters and backup players because they needed to prove themselves and many of them shitted their pants. Both statements make sense, at the same time. In the same sense, some players (Pellistri, Elanga) did shine, despite the loss.
