1: its a pre season friendly the results of pre season friendly literally mean nothing.
2 we were missing 18 (i think) first team squad members, literally all our best players bar greenwood and A.W.B, making the already meaningless result even more meaningless.

Ole at the wheel being dug up and wheeled out while 1-0 up. This song came back to haunt us with oppo fans singing it back to us for months 1-2 years ago.
More toe curlingly is "Come on feel the Moyes", a disaster song that Moyes didn't like and I can understand, it doesn't set a good tone somehow. Same as the next one...
"Jose's playing the way United should", "something tells me I'm into something good". Well that lasted just a few months and then we went to play the most garbage football of any second place team. Jose didn't like the song either.
United fans have a vast array of great songs and the away fans are some of the best, I'm not knocking the effort in support but the Moyes and Jose ones are really naff, I don't think they help at all. I'd rather the team players get the backing and the usual strong United songs. A manager like Ferguson can warrant one but you'd still have to keep it in check like they did back then. Ole at the wheel was well over used and completely backfired, I think players can even resent it with overuse unless it's a top manager.
When Sir Alex talked to the fans on the pitch at OT before retiring I think we took it too literally to back the manager that he called for. Backing them with a constant song so early and the whole odd tone of these three songs are not right.

I hadn't saw him play until the last games and he was absolutely terrible. Sure he may still turn it around but damn he looks miles off the standard. At this point I don't think he'll even make it at top level nevermind making it here.
They don't matter in the slightest, especially since no more than two of the starters today will be anywhere near the starting lineup for the first game of the season.

Wasn't my intention to lecture you on anything. I just noted that I've seen your name now multiple times and very often with posts from a certain kind. It creates a picture of you, if you want it or not, thats all I wanted to tell you. I don't give a flying f*** about your opinion, post whatever you want. If you want to turn the big wheel whenever there are two or three posts out of 50 or so that trigger you, follow the urge. I think it reeks of some sort of insecurity but if you feel this place needs to be in check, then do your thing.
Apart from that - I agree, what you mentioned should be a myth. But to be honest (plus while not being around for tooooo long) I have never been under the impression, that there is a big group of people propagating this "myth". At least not to the extent you picture above.
Are there managers who might be able to get more out of the current squad though? Who knows, I tend to say yes but there is no way to prove this point. Just like there is no way to prove the opposite by the way.
Hi all QPR fan in peace, just thought I'd throw a few observations in to help you assess today. Leaving aside the obvious that it was your 3rd team vs our first, in a friendly game that matters a lot more to us than you:
1. It's been said that we'd be further ahead in pre-season prep. It was correctly pointed out that this was in fact our 2nd pre-season game - in reality it was our first, none of our players today took part in the friendly v Harrow Borough which was strictly for U-23s
2. Conversely it's been said we are a 9th-placed Champ side. Obviously that's factually correct but disguises the fact that we had a season of two halves, being 16th at half-way, then substantially reinforcing with 4 loanees all now signed on permanents, and in the second half of season having 3rd highest points total. Essentially it's that 2nd-half side you played today. I'd suggest you should think of its as being about the same level as Brentford (a side that's beat us year in year out but which the "2nd half of season" QPR beat 2-1)
3. A slight caveat to that last point is that the midfield of that side was built around Stefan Johansen and to a lesser extent Sam Field, neither playing today because SJ only signed terms today and Field is crocked.
PS To the bloke who suggested Austin as a back-up player for you: no way - he's almost certainly taken a big pay cut to be with us, seems like he likes the club and knows he will be first choice starter and fancies a crack promotion, I'm afraid you're exactly the wrong sort of club for him now.

Both these things are true.
Nevertheless, I find it massively disappointing that we still have so many fringe players that lack the quality and/or the drive to take their chance to shine in fixtures such as these.
Proper weird thread this, no idea how it’s all so serious. It was a pre season game we largely dominated apart from a freaky 10 minute period where every shot they had went in. Good minutes under the belt for our younger players & another top day following the reds which is what pre-season is all about.

The majority of the starters today wouldn't even make the bench, let alone the starting lineup. You realise that, surely?

Exactly. Irrelevant friendly. Irrelevant score. Fitness exercise for the senior players and many of those we saw today will be sold or on loan this season.
Kind of agree with most of what you say but we definitely didn’t “generally dominate”. QPR were by far the better side for the vast majority of the game and the only dominant spell for us came when they took off almost their entire starting XI. We were very very poor, apart from 10-15 minutes near the end. And the worst performers for us on the day were the players who would be considered the closest to our first team. Which isn’t great.
That’s not the point. Don’t you think it would be nice if a few of them were able to force their way onto the bench at least?
Plenty of them are regulars on the bench in any case; most of the others are supposed to be highly-rated youngsters who should be knocking on the door.
I’m certainly not damning any of them individually on the basis of one poor performance this afternoon; I think some of the criticism on here has been ridiculously harsh. I still think it would be nice to see one or two putting in really decent performances that would give the manager, in Dave Sexton speak, a Nice Problem To Have.
It’s a long standing issue, and certainly not one for which Ole can be held responsible. I can remember being delighted when youngsters and barely used fringe players got outings in the League Cup under Fergie, and almost always being disappointed.
Maybe not I’ve not watched anything back yet but from where I was stood it looked that we had most of the ball & I don’t remember them having any shots other than the goals whereas we had Elanga through on goal twice as well as a bizarre offside call with two players through.
Agree on who the worst performers were which isn’t great at all but I don’t think we’ve learnt much about them. Think it’s pretty clear we want Williams & Mengi loaned out, Pereira sold, AWB will come good as he tends to be a slow starter, James first game back, Grants only there for training etc.

Either way it wouldn't mean alot to me, there is often odd results in pre seasons friendles it doesn't tend to make much difference to what happens when there are points to play for.
We maybe shaded it on chances but QPR played the best football. It’s hard not to worry about the lack of any real coherent shape or identity in the way we play, even if it is a bunch of fringe players. Although some of our best seasons have come after woeful pre-season performances and some of our worst after looking different class in July. So I won’t hit the panic button just yet.

Pre-season results should never matter too much, QPR look a good side and their finishes during that 10 minute goal were they scored 3 were superb but it's still a fitness exercise.
I really dont mate, I just don't get all the hyperbole over a result no-one, not even QPR fans will care about in a weeks time.

It is what it is, pre season. Fitness, tactics trials, position testing etc. United used to send 'United 11s' everywhere, Altrincham, Bradford etc, most of the time we won, sometimes we lost, but no one actually cared either way. People are losing their shit and I find it hilarious

i’d love to see us sell pogba now tbh. Cba with the theatrics and his fat bellend agent anymore. Hes injury prone, constantly underperforms and seems to be an expert in giving away penalties. The odd good performance and the price tag are all distractions away from the fact he is totally second tier tbf. He isnt in the same boat as a scholes, lampard, gerrard, iniesta etc etc. Decent midfielder with an extra large gob. Sell him to psg and spend it on someone young and talented who wants to play for the shirt.
As was I. I wanted him back here since he left, but I have come to understand what type of person he is more now that he's returned. Where I once thought he'd be eager to learn and shape his game to suit what we want, he instead thinks he's the finished product and a few flicks and tricks is enough. And that washes with some supporters! It's unbelievable. He could and should have been so much more. Imagine if he had the drive and dedication of Cristiano Ronaldo...he'd have been an absolute monster in midfield. Probably unplayable. And yet people accept what he serves up, it's laughable.
