Palworld Xbox US player numbers briefly surpass Fortnite, as Steam sales hit 8m in six days

Just saw this on Eurogamer so I thought I'd just leave it here. I suppose the usual lot will be along soon to tell us why Xbox isn't winning 2024

You just know once games go subscription only you're going to have about 4 billion ads every hour. Imagine after every game of multiplayer cod, you get to sit through a 2 minute ad for enhanced gaming socks.

Is this the game using AI artwork etc?

I don't see the appeal for anybody over 12

Is it even a good pokemon game?
The few comments on it i've seen have been pretty damning really. Generic, grindy and unimaginative seems to be general consensus.

It looks like that on the surface, cute and all, but below that, this game is very fecking dark and brutal. You can chop up all the creatures and even humans, and eat them. Yeah, far from a game for kids.

Game if incredibly fun, I couldn't care less what they copied, they copied from lots of different sources and made a very fun game, people calling it generic, grindy and unimaginative probably didn't even tried playing it.

And I am saying all this as someone who never watched, played and ever liked anything Pokemon related.

This thread should be fairly active right now. If rumours are true it really is game over

Jokes aside, would love to play Hi-Fi Rush if it ever comes to PS5.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Hi Fi Rush are the two I’d recommend. Those are the two that I enjoyed when I borrowed an Xbox - I didn’t finish Hi Fi but it was good.

So you did want to play Xbox games all along?

And you chose not to out of some loyalty to a multitrillion-dollar company you have no affiliation with personally?

And this isn't the hypernormalisation thread?!

On a more serious note, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft did keep making consoles but with lower specs a la the Series S and maybe even become wholly reliant on cloud technology. It seems like the best way to keep GamePass subs, which has long been their primary interest rather than console wars/sales, or sales from individual software. I can see this slowly becoming their business model over the next decade because it's already Microsoft's entire business model for the likes of Microsoft 365 and Windows. They'll also, for the time being at least, probably want to simultaneously accrue revenue by releasing their games on the SonyBox in the form of one-off purchases. Then the customer decides, do I buy this cheap console for access to cheap games or pay full whack to own them on PS5. It's the age-old dichotomy between the hardcore and casual gamer. The former will buy them outright to run without issues. The latter may just say, feck I'll take the cheaper option.

And you know what? It's probably a sensible decision. They would become a lot like Valve using the Steamdeck to keep people within the Steam ecosystem.

They never intended to stay in the console market producing hardware they wanted to create a monopoly on game streaming so all the other competitors would have to go through them for the biggest games.

This has been mentioned forever in this thread and many people just laughed it off, looks like it’s coming full circle.

Why are games on the PS5 more expensive than on Xbox? A friend scooped Tekken 8 for £40, I can't find it for less than £55. Pisser

I AGREE WITH YOU

Why are F1 tyres more expensive than normal car tyres?

Because they're for a superior machine which will get the best out of them.

It’s really not that surprising. Gamepass is ultimately how they want to make their money. Microsoft are a SaaS company after all. If the consoles aren’t selling enough to make it worthwhile then they’ll go to other markets.

that said without genuine competition for Sony in the console market it’s a bit of a worry.

I'm just getting back into Halo Infinite. Its a brilliant game and there's shit loads of content now.

I'd actually love Halo and Gears to come to Playstation. Would give both player bases a boost. The games get a lot of stick but they're both good series and some of the best multiplayer games out there.

Can't imagine either doing huge numbers with PS players but at least Halos multiplayer would be free. Can't harm in any rate.

Either way Xbox is going to be the best selling publisher (Inc Sony) on Playstation so whilst they may lose the battle the real war is already in the bag

Sony will be happy to rake in that cod money as well tbf.
