If the PS5 was a sandwich it would be a Ted Danson. The Xbox Series X would be a Larry David.

The difference? One tastes good and one sucks.

Not at all. Weirdly I think I have you added on the xbox from ages ago, must have discussed a random new release at one point

What's your gamertag and what do you play?

I mostly play Overwatch and Halo these days. A bit of COD, FIFA and Rainbow.

No other games on xbox to be fair.

Oh I thought you had PS5 but sounds like you're one of the good ones

ZymunGuile - play pretty much everything, currently back on Dead by Daylight which Ive been playing for years on and off!

With all the fanaticism over Xbox or PlayStation, it would seem it is actually gaming on the whole that has lost out.

Oversized consoles, overpriced games, pay to pay, more bugs than ever before, DLCs, season passes, exclusivity, servers closing down... there's a lot not to like right now and I can only see it getting worse.

With all the stuff going on with Xbox it's amazing how Sony will take the W by default rather than because they did anything good with the PS5.

Agreed that it's not been a great generation from Sony so far, but I think within the confines of the games they have released the difference is they still do what they've always done well which is release games that appeal to their players. MS have tried something different, and being honest the recent redundancies show they've learned nothing and are looking purely at holding IP's rather than progressing talent in studios.

The strange thing is, they're repeating the same mistakes as before. They buy talent, expect it to be a big win immediately and then when it's not they cut costs rather than nurturing. I guess their innate issue is that MS step in, whereas Sony trust their gaming department to make the right decisions.

Bar the PSVR2 actually existing and some notable games here and there, cant argue with you......

Still, I was right about how shite XBox actually was at the time... could not have predicted the nose dive though

I don't think the console war contributed to any of the factors you mentioned bar exclusivity. The pricing schemes (and schemes is the correct word), lack of quality control, ever increasing price etc have a lot more to do with consumers accepting corporate bs than anything else imo.

Pretty much. Sony have won two console generations in a row, by miles, without doing anything more than producing a dozen or so good to excellent single player games in a decade.

So, catching up on some gaming rumours and it really does look like everything from Xbox is going multi platform. Which, in turn, means that they going to leave the console biz. We might get one more gen with a niche Xbox but that's it.

Personally, I think it's a real shame. I've been in the Xbox ecosystem since the first and it was my only console through the 360 and Xbox one. Ultimately, they just couldn't compete with the brand power of PS and Nintendo. Especially, on a world wide basis.

It's not like Sony are killing it right now either. Lots of people are looking at them sideways too. It's just that Xbox really really really fecked these last 2 gens up badly with numerous bad decisions.

Who knows what happens..... but it's fair to say. PS5 > XBox

Gaming is shit nowadays. Very casual thing to say but it feels meh. Elden Ring DLC hopefully goes off.

PS will be fine as a baseline. They have 100 million sales on lock basically for this gen and future gens. I know they have other issues with thin margins etc but actually selling consoles is not an issue. If xbox could sell 100 million consoles then they would need this strategy shift.

Last year was an amazing year for great games and I’ve already played a few bangers this year too. I just think the big publishers are cnuts but the industry itself is in a good place, especially with indie devs and the likes of Larian.

So yeah, around midway through this gen and....... fecking hell

Probably partly cos of having a little boy, but I've genuinely stopped even looking at games, barely even log on and toying with selling the thing.

MGS remake and GTA6 are the only games I know about that excite me.

Trainwreck of a gen thus far, and made all the more annoying by the feeling that neither the XSX or PS5 is actually being pushed to it's limits.

Edit: After posting it occurred to me that you might be talking about how poorly Xbox has done, which is also mindblowing.

I still think that first year when Xbox was loaded with gamepass games and trying incredibly hard to increase its market share was the best console experience I've had since the PS3 era.

That admittedly was the highlight as everything else has been dire since that point.

Your initial point is right though, it's been ok but nowhere near the peaks of previous generations. Not sure what happens for the rest of the gen tbh, Xbox seem to have left the building (@Alock1) and Sony are taking the piss at nearly every opportunity...

Surely he was referencing concord.

Imagine how many posts there would have been in here already if it had been an Xbox game.

I dunno what you lot are on about. 2023 was one of the best years for games I can remember. This year hasn’t been great, though.

Overall it’s been a good gen as long as you don’t just care about Sony or (lol) MS exclusives.

That’s what I don’t get. People keep bemoaning this generation yet last year is considered one of the all time great years for games - there were so many supposed GOTY people lost track. I’m still to catch up to 2023 in my gaming cycle but I think the focus on exclusives misses the quality of the overall releases.

Even this year has been nothing less than fantastic, if you ask me. I mean: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Final Fantasy Rebirth, Tekken 8, Helldivers 2, Dragon's Dogma 2, Shadow of the Erdtree, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Black Myth: Wukong and in terms of more niche games, stuff like Balatro, Pacific Drive, Ultros, etc. Something for everyone.

Just too many brilliant titles to play in a single year. I guess if you really care about generations, exclusives and first-parties, you might think differently, but I'd argue those people don't have their priorities straight.

Agreed, short memories

Absolutely. I genuinely think gaming, on the whole, has never been in a better place, you just need to look beyond the major studios and publishers and their shithousing. Just look at what Larian accomplished last year with Baldurs Gate 3, for example.

I think that the middle ground is worse now in terms of gaming. I think the highs are better (See BG3, FF7 Rebirth, Elden Ring, GT7 etc...) but then you have severe lows and that middle ground isn't as consistent.

Again I think that’s only true if you’re unwilling to look at smaller or indie studios.

What would you consider middle ground? Double A games? Because even in that category I think there's good stuff releasing, like Stellar Blade, Eiyuden Chronicles, Robocop, or in recent years games like Remnant 2, Evil West, A Plague Tale: Requiem, etc. And that's without looking at the indie scene.

I think people mostly refer to big budget blockbusters which is fine but those take a lot of money and time to make given the cinematic expectations people have. Meanwhile the industry is changing and you’re getting such a big variety of experiences now with the rise of indies and AAs so it’s important to appreciate that too.

There are of course negatives - a lot of remakes / remasters, generic multiplayer games, micro transactions etc but it’s not as if gaming was perfect in the past.

I've been spoilt by GamePass, I refuse to buy a game now and just choose to wait for when it comes on Gamepass :D

Currently finishing the Walking Dead Series, then have Mafia: Definitive Edition and Yazuka 0 downloaded.

Yep small disclosure here... I've had PS Plus Premium since the Days of Play sale, been streaming the majority of my games and have got through about 4-5 games which is a madness for me tbf.... Anyway, I'm almost a convert (@Redlambs is gonna rinse me). I wonder if I'll resub at the end of the 12 months, lets see

This was never bigged up to the tits like Xbox does with all their games..

Everyone knew this was a shit show from the start

You’re in for a top, top time with zero mate.

Have you played Kiwami one yet? I know technically zero came after one, but a lot of stuff in one is far more impactful if you have played zero first.

First ever Yakuza game I'm playing. I've seen that it has a bit of a cult following so I thought you try it out.

Had to cancel my Space Marine 2 pre-order on PS5. Performance is fair bit better on XSX and you can get it for 10er less through cdkeys.

Another example of the difference being driven more by what console the devs prioritise than the hardware gap between the 2 consoles. Usually ps5 being the primary target due to the larger player base obviously.

I have been playing since early access on ps5 and have had no issues, what performance issues? Plays at a stable 60fps all the time
