Tbf, the Switch is still the best console on the market.

No console has managed to recreate that magical feeling you get playing games as a child, apart from the Switch.

The Switch is meh

Boring console with more varied games and hugely better exclusives than both the X/PS5 shite?

Yeah right.

(Don't mention the joycons breaking every 5 minutes though, we aren't going there)

It's down to taste of course and it's well known that Nintendo games love the formula but it's been a poor console for original titles IMO.

BotW, Mario Odyssey and Fire Emblem are good but everything else has been a rehash, a re-release or an inferior sequel (e.g. Pokemon).

Not saying they're bad games at all but they're expensive for anybody who already played half of the good ones on the Wii U.

Tell me about it

In all seriousness, it's a great console if it's your first Nintendo machine. But coming from the Wii-U it's still disappointing that this far in, whilst still having an impressive library, it still seems to lack big Nintendo hitters.

However a pew pew merchant like Alock won't get anything out of it, as you can't attach 50 paddles to it just to be able to be slightly less trash and need carrying at Cod 251.

Agreed :)

As far as I know, Smyths still to this day have the issue of no consoles online when they have them instore too. Definitely they do that with the X, not sure about PS5, but it's always worth a random pop in especially around the rumoured restock dates.

Because I had Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong, Mario 3D World, Mario Maker, NSMBU, Splatoon etc. on the Wii U and had played my fill of them, I've found the Switch exclusives a let down to be honest.

I have no interest in Smash and I'm not a login and do tasks every day type person (Animal Crossing, basically like having a 2nd job).

Mario Odyssey is cool but it hasn't grabbed me like other Mario's so I'm only a few planets in. I'm not sure if an age thing or what.. I loved 3D world a few years before but mostly for the co-op.

I'm clearly not good or patient enough for Breath of the Wild. I need more direction and hand holding.

The other thing that puts me off is the price of games when I'm not convinced I'll like them or put much time in. I'm use to game sales that make them super cheap or now just having gamepass (it's also a barrier to play more on PS5). The one good thing is that they hold their price well, so I could resell later and not lose much - but that's effort and I end up just keeping them.

Thank you for the advice. As least someone normal on here

No probs. With Game Pass if you don't find at least a couple of games you like I'd be surprised, I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of it. The library is pretty big now and has a lot of diversity in its offerings, which is bigger now thanks to EA access. The three months for £1 of ultimate is a great taster, and it includes Gold so you get the online play as well (Games with Gold is pretty negligible tbh, but every so often a really good game gets included).

I don't know if it's hit or miss, but there's usually an option that when you subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate through the console if you turn on "Auto renew" you get an extra month free, and then you can turn it off when you've finished payment.

I 100% agree, those of us who rinsed the Wii U really haven't had a whole lot of great which is a shame.

BOTW is one of the most amazing games ever created, the world and it's intricacies is easily the most fully realised in any game ever. However it does live and die more on the player's imagination than anything though. And that's not intended as a slight on people who don't like it, not everyone loves messing around and trying to find every little trick and bit of fun to be had and so it's perhaps not for them. If the sequel takes the world and adds an actual Zelda game on top, then we are talking!

The Switch started great with awesome exclusives (BOTW, Mario, Octopath, FE Three Houses) but it's been a massive letdown since. There hasn't been a game out in well over a year that I've been interested in playing. I guess the problem with lockdowns is there is also zero incentive to get games for it instead of PC/PS4/5, especially as they are usually, inexplicably, more expensive on the Switch. There's not even anything else coming out for it that I'm interested in apart from BOTW2 which is still years away.

If you sign up to gamepass you can play Peggle 2 in 4K @ 120fps.

The fact you can’t get a PS5 7 months after launch should tell you something.

means people follow like a flock of sheep - apple don’t produce the greatest phones but still maintain strong sales - that’s the other side of the coin. Brand loyalty

that is coming from me, a muppet who buys an iPhone every time.

Both consoles good, but both lack proper new game changing games. Time will tell.

Without derailing this thread too much, this isn't a Switch only problem.

'Rona has really slowed production on a lot of games.

For me the Switch is the perfect place for lots of indie games, and it has a much larger library of local coop games than the big two.

Obviously you don't buy third party games on Switch if they're on the other two. But that shows how insanely popular the console is that companies are willing to port to it (they didn't during GameCube and Wii U).

But back on topic: Gamepass is shit.

I'd say Apple build the best phones.
I work with a lot of phones on a daily basis and Samsung have terrible issues with their OLED screens. I see so many with screen burn, even newer S10s etc. It's really bad

Indie games are arguably one of the better things about gamepass :|

What's that then?

I've had an S10 for 2 years and use it constantly and I've never had screenburn.

When images burn an outline on your screen
That's what I thought He meant. I've never seen it but then maybe I've never had any phone long enough for it to happen. Only ever seen it on old monitors and TVs I've had over the years...

I've come across it many times.
On a white screen you'll get a pinkish hue.

From minor screen burn as in just a very pale pink line around the top and bottom where they have their borders or where you can see full keyboards. or app pages.

Obviously you use your phones a lot less, or switch screens often enough to not experience it.
You can blame the users for how they've used it, but it's still a problem, just cause a few of you haven't, doesn't mean it isn't a problem

Plenty of screen burn on Samsung Galaxy's when i went away from Apple for a few years.

It was always the signal bar, battery indicator etc, wouldn't ever notice it unless you looked for it.

Gamepass is shit but Switch is the perfect place for indie games and co op?

Those things are second on Switch, to Gamepass.

You need to get better at reading.

Local coop, hands down.

All the best indie games come to Switch, and portability trumps graphics every time, even though most of the best indie games are in no way graphically intensive.

Anything else you want to refute?

Portability means very little to me, i don't game on the move I'll always choose a podcast/film/music over gaming in such scenarios.

Switch is a typical Nintendo console unbelievable 1st party games and mediocre/trash everything else.

If you are into Japanese games i can see the appeal, i suppose.

Having the option to play while you're having a dump, sticking a TV show/podcast on in the background while you play in handheld, that's what I mean by portability. Not playing it on the commute, although I imagine a lot of people do.

Gamepass has shown to be fantastic for many indies who have gone on to have more sales as a result (on Xbox and elsewhere).

I'd be curious to get proper stats on Switch portability, and how many use it on the go (not just handheld around the house) and how much of the time. Personally, I never do, but I appreciate some will only play on the go.

As xcloud scales and becomes more accessible (EE offering unlimited data for xcloud streaming for example) then the portability and accessibility benefit comes too. Though that's a long time away yet.

For any co-op that is online, Gamepass is the best place - and that includes most local co-op games that get their scale of sales from online co-op - not local. If it's pure local, sure.

Which is frustrating. I loved those titles but not a second time so soon after.

As for BOTW, it absolutely probably is my lack of imagination / creativity and patience. I only really take advantage of a sandbox setting and mess around if there's an element of co-op/online play. On my own I just don't have that sense to create my own entertainment by experimenting. The lack of direction and progression is a similar reason to why I haven't done much in Sea of Thieves. In both games I know that's a big part of the appeal to many people.
