Ps3 - the slim edition

More or less, they all have the same features and get the same firmware upgrades.

If you want to use Linux on your PS3 though your too uncool to own a PS3.

If i got a PS3 the first thing i would do would be to install Linux. Seems a bit of a backwards step not being able to install it on the slim, not such a great multi-media device now.

I'm lost for words. How does the ability to install Linux change its ability as a muti-media device? Or are you confused with terms again?

It's not a backwards step, the box is still capable of running Linux, it's just that they have changed the hardware so much that they have not had the time to do the hypervisor drivers for the new hardware (Linux is still supported on the old boxes). The hypervisor is what stops access to the electronics inside the machine, it stops Linux accessing RSX for example.

I bought the slim one, since there was no 60gb version of the old one, and I do still have PS2. I also bought the new FIFA and Metal Gear Solid.

I read good things about Uncharted on here, is there anything else that's a must buy?
Is Army of Two any good? I usually play with my brother, heard it's nice when playing co-op?

I need something to shorten the wait for God of War :) .

Thanks for any answers I may get from you guys :) .

Uncharted is absolutely essential to any PS3 owner, that and then Uncharted 2 next week.

Havent played Army of Two, heard it wasnt that good. But MGS4 + Uncharted + Killzone 2 + GT5 Prologue, thats your essential 4 right now.

250gb versions of the PS3 slim rocked up in yesterday's stock delivery yesterday. Didn't hear anything about them before that. Was quite shocked when they came out of the box.

Someone sent me a message on PSN yesterday claiming that online play would be charged from December. I am assuming this is horseshit?

It was some kind of chain message. Asking me to forward it to everyone on my friend's list. What a bunch of bullshit.

Oh, by the way, check your inbox, Weaste.

I'm looking to get one of these but I'm not much of a shopper, can anyone tell me if there's a better deal anywhere than Amazon's £244.69?

You really wouldn't want to know how much I paid for mine. Early adopters always get screwed.

Anyway, this is the latest estimate of production cost on the machine. They never really ever get these things right, but that's why it's an estimate.

My gf picked up one of these the other day for me for when i move, got a deal with a sony 40" lcd hdtv for $1100 inc taxes. Can't wait to try it out!

Nah it wasn't that one, it was a special deal at Futureshop. They've stopped the deal now so i can't find it online. The one we got didn't include a game or Blueray film.

I was at HMV earlier, they had all consoles reduced and on offer apart from the PS3 :(

Stop buying season tickets and buy one you skint cnut :p. Considering the price earlier in the year, its not that bad 'and probably the reason for the price drop'.

Go to game and look. Probably bundles there. In Aus we have a 250gb ps3 with play tv, Fifa 10 and Uncharted 2 for 318 pounds 'or roughly that'.

Oi brad! Sony Playstation 3 250Gb PS3 Slim with GT 5, Infamous and Fifa 10 - PlayStation 3 - GAME.co.uk

Not a bad deal that.

OK so i'm quite enjoying this console now. Any recommendations where to get good themes from? The majority of the ones ive found are shite, i'm quite into the minimalist design for themes & unfortunately they're in short supply.

There's a new model coming into the channel, it seems like the one with the new 45nm RSX, because the power consumption figures have been cut by quite a bit from the original slim model.

Code:
XMB Menu (Still wallpapers) 76W 67W
XMB Menu (Main Theme) 83-86W 71W
FFXIII game event scene 96-107W 78-83W
FFXIII game menu 83-84W 74W
BD playback 88-91W 77-78W
Power Off (Stand-by) 9W 9W

is it possible to unlock the regional coding or what ever it's called?

I want to be able to play region A DVDs.

Shame. Criterion have released some blu rays in the US - feck knows if they'll be doing the same in the UK. I hate that stuff. . .
