Protests following the killing of George Floyd

I'm tired of the racism angle. We need to get to the bottom of that spirit and route it out and throw it out. Racism is a tool that is used. Perhaps all their are legitimately upset. Perhaps some are paid to be for some stupid agenda. Just don't care at this point in time. The media spread this racism. Films spread this racism. It's got to stop. I hate to be the one to say it but maybe they should look to God about how to behave. This is too organised. Who is behind this? What are they saying and what do they want to achieve?

In USA, they push white supremacy. They push white guilt. Ideas are promoted that you can only be racist if you are white. I don't see anywhere - as much organisation so when form no opinion. Because it adds to the flame. They are stirring the pot and people need to know WHO is behind it and hold them to account. Many people that act the victim are completely fake (NOT all) but many are for political agendas.
Going to assume English isn't your first language and whatever it is you're trying to convey, you can't in a 2nd language.

Yes, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Strange post, you think it’s the WHO fault?

A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.

It's actually anything but, rather, a vehicle for numerous parties to further their objectives under the auspices of 'George Floyd', which is working an absolute charm.

Those actually protesting against the police and for the end to mistreatment are being drowned out by piggybackers who could not care less. There are people baying for this to get worse for a myriad of reasons.

As a distraction method, Trump mobilising his troops via incendiary social media, has also been a marvel - the talk of Covid-19 has become redundant, which is ironic given these protests will see that spread like wildfire in a few weeks.
Oh yeah, that little old thing. Forgot about that.

Are you suggesting that racism isn't really a thing and that african americans don't for a majority have a reason to protest? Do you think that someone told cops and civilians around the US to lynch, batter, kill or discriminate black people for a reason that isn't racism but something else and that this person/institution is centuries old?

A lot of the eople in the streets and their family members & friends will propably be in a hospital due to Covid-19 soon, I imagine. This might have the effect of several super spreading events. I can not fathom how the cops in the US act against the black, but neither can I fathom how a lot of people in the US act so extremely, taking advantage of the situation to loot and destroy. The US nation is so fractured, so full of cracks, problems and hatred and the society seems to really need a new direction for the future. The US needs reforms on many levels, a system that takes care of its people, both when it comes to the police, but also health system/insurance, minimum wages, rights and other issues. This is no surprise though, the faults of the US has been evident for a long time and visible from afar. Hopefully the election will be a turning point in the right direction. Just hope the whole nation does not go down in flames first. Seem extremely unstable over there now, with all the stuff still coming down in regard of all the people becoming home- and jobless. Can not see the desperation and hate becoming any less extreme as long as Tump is in office :(

That they do this whilst filmed, immediately lends itself to the question of what goes on when cameras aren't pointed at them.
The same and worse. That's what can't be denied anymore in this era of smartphone video documentation. People exposed to this have been saying it all along, but now it has been dragged out into the open.

Oh yeah, that little old thing. Forgot about that.
If you see people as pawns to further your own ends, these riots and the anarchy are a masterstroke. Enter one Donald Trump.

And when cases of Covid-19 explode in a few weeks' time, you're already covered as it's the fault of these thugs and miscreants.

As the sociopath he is, he's played an absolute blinder.

What's worrying is that the filming has had the curious property of having those who denied or played down these incidents, further entrench and double down on their original position in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I think the problem is it highlights just what hardliners who don't want the status quo to change, we're up against.

Smartphones and social media in a free country is making this the most significant mass protest in history.
This is nuts. Anyone know how you defuse this situation?

That cooter punch from the policeman at 38s. Just swinging indiscriminately

The blame game in this thread is a shit show.

These are legitimate protests that have now got out of hand. Then someone sets out the possibility that the out of hand part is nothing to do with the protestors, they've been infiltrated, set up.

My natural inclination with that reaction is to dismiss it as a conspiracy, but one I'm obviously sympathetic to - I am on the side of the protestors, so I want to defend them and their cause, but on the balance of probabilities blaming someone else for the riots seems a stretch.

On here, the infiltration is widely accepted, but only if those infiltrating are not on our side. I mean, it is definitely those white supremacists and not at all those antifa lads, right? Why would antifa get involved? Why wouldn't the white supremacists march with the predominantly black protestors to take advantage of whenever it might turn ugly?

Lack of balance on this type of stuff drives me mental. Achilles earlier in the thread made a point that the majority disagreed with, he stuck to his guns, so the majority turn to 'dude are you even black' and then predictably 'you are disrespecting Floyd!' And then he lost his shit, ban fair enough.

But still, zero balance, comments disagreeing with the narrative generally not welcome. It literally is a mirror image of what Trump does, but I would guess that Trump is aware of the shit he does. Drives me mental that the majority can't just be... better.
Took the words right out of my mouth.

Obviously what happened to Floyd is egregious and the officers involved deserve the swift hammer of justice. I can even sympathize to a degree with the rioters who are venting frustration at how divided we still are, and I can definitely feel that the scale of the riots is more of a straw that broke the camel's back.

But is it really the best idea to actually start stealing and destroying everything in sight? It absolutely crushes me to see the lives of small business owners (many of whom are black) get devastated by these riots. I also hate seeing legitimately peaceful protests get overshadowed by violent riots which may have even been caused by outside sources.

It's just like that spongebob meme where spongebob proclaims "we saved the city!" while everything around them is burning down. Completely senseless.

I don't understand how people are blaming the protests for the criminals?
Surely it's the criminals and the police incapable of policing it's cities that are responsible. The police have incapacitated itself with it's own actions, making life easy for the thieves.

(And if nothing else all the overtime will make the cops think twice before strangling the next person to death, so it isn't entirely pointless either)

Tell you what lads, fair play to Donald for making America great again.

Under a different President this might fuel change, but Trump will double down on the division and milk it for a 2nd term. This could just be the beginning of a series of escalating tensions. I wonder how the redneck militias will react to their shrines being burned down, isnt this what they have been preparing for? Or are they already present in uniform?

Ugh. It feels like most 'riot' stories coming out of the U.S. read like this:

'Police used an atom bomb on a peaceful protester yesterday. The Governor, and President, praised the police for their restraint and courage.'

Yeah, that's only to be expected. But at least the protective shield of anonymity is partially removed, and the far-reaching impunity is challenged more than ever before. More people, and the public as a whole, are forced to acknowledge the facts.
I think the problem is it highlights just what hardliners who don't want the status quo to change, we're up against.
Absolutely, although that has been clear all along too. So, as you say, the current situation merely highlights it.

Protests that can be ignored are no protests at all. Ignoring the struggles of others always forces violence in the end.

I condemn violence but this type of tweets are the problem. When the movement is peaceful no one cares and people are even made parias, see Kaepernick. When the movement is violent people are quick to claim that protesters are as bad as the system that created them. It's a vicious circle and I believe that nothing will change because the majority don't really care, they have been watching it from home and waiting for the moment the line was crossed before showing their true face which is that they are perfectly happy with the status quo.

People prefer the type of protests they can easily ignore, see Kaepernick. The problem with those sort of protests is the achieve nothing.

Aargh, I don’t think you should bother too much replying to someone “who is tired of the racism angle”.

That's the problem though. It hadn't happened. And it's been going on for years with no change.

Tough watch (and not just because the lack of social distancing is freaking me out) Your heart really does break for them.

The sad thing is, I feel the pain and my heart is broken. I feel so sorry for them though partly because I feel it is so difficult to feel what they're feeling.

At least in the UK, France, even recent African migrants to USA, we still have a link to our culture, our countries etc. They were taken and had their cultures and histories erased. That is their only country but so often, their country treats them as criminals, thugs, people who's lives are worth little.

Its just fecking terrible.

It's human nature - when we're angry, we strike out at what we see around us.

This, too:
