Protests following the killing of George Floyd

Why do they have every right to be frightened? What am I missing?

Hundreds of rowdy people were passing through the gate next to their property in a gated community onto a private street and were heading towards their property when they came out. As you will have seen there has been a lot of property damage over the last few weeks.

If I were in that situation, I can imagine that I would have no reason to believe my property was not going to be targeted and would be frightened. Its America and people own guns to defend themselves and their property.

Starts off by calling me an apologist, then comes out with that. You really are a strange one. It was only last week you were raging because I had the audacity to respond to one of your posts.
Are you not an apologist? In my observations you tend to make excuses for the police, or get unto those that criticise them. (don't goad those guys with dougnuts stupid....... mmm dougnuts)

Are you sure you arent reaching a bit? For example, have there been examples of domestic property damage in the area? Did all of their neighbours join in with their deranged weapon brandishing? I feel like I'm missing something here...

Is that an genuine question? I've made dozens of posts condemning policing. My previous post calls policing abhorrent. I say that I think you're, on the whole, right, and this is where you end up? You filter those out posts though, because it's difficult to assign an identity to someone who doesn't sit at the extreme end of a spectrum. Into the incinerator I go.

Fair enough.... Unless you're tagging me in them I can't be expected to know about posts that I haven't seen. All I know is that you seem to be one of two people on this site that keeps riding me but feck it, I'll leave it there... It's not that deep.

You quoted me, then called me an apologist. And I'm riding you?

So up until you had a meltdown when I replied to you a few weeks ago, the last time we had any meaningful discussion was back in 2017, where I think you gave me another half dozen labels because I didn't agree wholeheartedly with what you said. I don't know why you always have to make it personal. It's not healthy.

I swear I'm gonna have to go get my dougnut on a string and feck you up son.... I called you an apologist because thats what I think/thought you are.... it is what it is, get over it.

Also, me telling you to feck off a few weeks ago (as opposed to getting into another weird circular arguement with you like right now for example) isnt a meltdown... it's cutting to the chase. And on that note.... Goodbye.

Confederate emblem on Mississippi flag mars Black lawmaker's live shot

On the long overdue flag change: It looks like it came down to the NCAA move that finally forced the MS lawmaker's hand?
They may not publicly admit that but the timing is more than coincidental.

Are you sure? Or you going to cry because you're holding onto something I said once three years ago. Honestly, I'd forgotten it had even happened, but it clearly mentally scared to. I mean really, always 'riding you.'

I can't wait for your next meltdown. Byeeeee.

I would've thought we had enough evidence over the last 4 months to say that it is enough to goad police in America. Most of the time, you don't even need that.

Perhaps, but if that is all it takes then it's another example of a massive police over-reaction and would be another one to add to the litany of unnecessary violence escalated by the police. At the end of the day, it's a doughnut on a string.

I'd also have thought that humour might have a role in de-escalating the tension, but that perhaps expects too much humanity from US police forces.

Apparently knowing which posters are actually worth your time, and avoiding the ones that arent, means you're having a meltdown? Anyway....

I don’t think the NCAA has that kind of sway anymore, they just conveniently jumped on the bandwagon with the SEC championship events thing once the ball was already rolling.

Apparently, 'avoiding' a poster who once disagreed with you three years ago equates to directly quoting them, calling them an apologist, then whining that they're 'riding you.' Someone has some issues they need addressing...

It is. Let's not forget these are the same people that hospitalised a 75 year man because he was trying to give them their hat back. What I'm struggling with is the notion that we rightly condemn them for some of the abhorrent, unwarranted behaviour we've seen in recent weeks, but conversely see no issue with actively trying to get them to do it again. There's no other reason for them to do that than to get a reaction. Honestly, I don't care all that much, it was just a passing comment, despite the desperation of a certain person to make it something more.

I just learned the other day that the well-known Confederate flag wasn't actually widely used at the time, but was only used by Robert E. Lee. Meaning that the use of it now is kinda like a romanticised/mythical version of the confederacy and the events of the time.
Absurd country.

Very interesting. Should make the expected kickback that much more ridiculous.

same thing with the confederate monuments. Majority of them were built in the Jim Crow era in the early 20th century.

Two of the people behind blm are trained marxists. They will admit to that. This is the problem for me. These groups are typically funded by the usual imbred scrum. And what happens is they get behind good messages and so some join because they believe in a message but it's a trojan horse. You can see what they do in colleges, teaching them social justice! You watch them. You know the terms they use. How they speak and think as a race as opposed a human being. They use coded language. They're very sneaky. But the BLM use genuine moments of evil.....to push through this agenda. And if you look at what goes on - and how people speak. There are some that don't acknowledge black on black crime because you know why? There will be casualties in war....This is the enemy. I've every sympathy for people going through hard times. But this movement is a sham and the message used is a slight of hand. The people controlling it, just don't care. All they want, is you too...because that pushes their agenda. This guy pulled a gun on a pregnant woman. But that's not the point. It's opportunism and that's the nature of the beast. And if people look at the keywords and the ideas being taught. You see the patterns and understand the game. But we deal with an enemy using human tragedy to creep in through the back door and I ask anyone.......do you really think this is going to solve anything? It's just a fantasy and it was not meant to change anything....

This group....during a pandemic...protested/rioted/looted as a direct consequence. Who that went to all of this, is under Quarentine? Where is any message anywhere...on the news...pleading.....demanding people STOP...because during these events people are breaking social distancing....and no one can say that they wouldn't cause a spike. This is why they want to control the narrative. Those people were potential carriers....but who ..anywhere.....asked them to stop. That's the point people miss. The whole idea of being dumbed down, is not thinking about what you are seeing. They potentially...allowed a virus to spread....putting so many lives at risk.......for what? Was there urgent messages on the news asking people....NOT to protest? Not To riot? Not to loot? There should have been.....because all that many people....all it took is one having covid right?.,...
Wtf's this? A telegram in morse code from an asylum?

They're really not doing themselves any favours

Crowd: There’s kids here
Police: Let’s storm the crowd

They seemingly just march & attack when told; a very stormtrooper mentality.

Progress, and a suggestion.

Wasn’t sure where he was going for a minute or so but he’s right; there are tales of cops showing restraint & operating with common sense which is what makes the egregious responses we see startling.

More work needs to be done in the hiring phase though; the community shouldn’t have to vet their officers.

Interesting....these guys have came out as Trump supporters, which have pissed off a lot of people, they have also dropped quite a few controversial videos, to say the least....

But this one i agree with(bar the end :wenger:), the "protesters" were being twats, broke down a gate and were shouting "our street". I don't agree with civilians having guns but it is the US and the law allows it there...if I lived in a place like that in the U.K and a mob of people broke into my property I would have my 4 iron in my hand....

There are lot of good suggestions on that guys channel. There seems to be impetus but the police need to want their profession cleaned up too..... I don't think that's the case right now?

So our King has offered his regret for the atrocious regime of his ancestor Leopold II in Congo. It's not enough, but it's an important first step. His letter:

“On the sixtieth anniversary of the independence of the Democratic Republic of Congo, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to you and the Congolese people.

This anniversary is an excellent opportunity to reconfirm our friendly ties. We look forward to the intense cooperation between our two countries in various fields, especially in the medical field. Today the pandemic demands our full attention on top of all other challenges. The privileged partnership between Belgium and Congo is a strong asset to deal with that. On the occasion of your national holiday, I would like to confirm our commitment to this partnership.

In order to strengthen our ties and deepen the friendship between our countries, we must be able to speak openly and serenely about our long shared history.

This history consists of common achievements, but also of painful episodes. At the time of the Congo Free State, acts of violence and atrocity were committed that continue to weigh on our collective memory. During the ensuing colonial period, suffering was also inflicted and humiliations were inflicted. I continue to express my deepest regrets for those past wounds. Wounds that are painfully tangible again nowadays through acts of discrimination, are still too strong in our society. I will continue to fight against all forms of racism. I encourage the reflection that is being started in our parliament to come to terms with the past.

We need to look to the future in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect to address global challenges. The struggle for human dignity and for sustainable development requires that we join forces. I have this ambition for both our countries and both continents, Africa and Europe.

Due to the current circumstances, I unfortunately cannot travel to your beautiful country, which I would like to get to know better. I hope I get the opportunity to do that soon. ”

Oh, now Facebook wants to step up...

NEW: Facebook has just announced that it took down a network of accounts, pages and groups tied to the extremist "boogaloo" movement, designating the anti-government movement as a "dangerous organization" and banning it from the platform. The controversial boogaloo movement advocates for violent uprisings with the aim of inciting a race war that will usher in a new government.
