Pro Evolution 2017

Is the master league good? I don't play online and want the best offline game possible. I usually buy fifa every year but this thread is really swaying me towards PES.

Oooooooohh not gunna lie, these reviews are really getting my motor running. I generally only play SP though and one of the issues I've had with PES and FIFA in recent years is that after a few hours play in killing the AI on the hardest level with a shit team. Don't suppose anyone can alleviate those concerns?

Also, how's Master League these days?

I like how you can play a league with promotion, relegation and cups, don't think you could do that last year

I got this today, disappointed so far. I got NBA 2K17 on the same day and the difference between both games is massive in every aspect - realism, responsiveness, presentation. Admittedly any game will look pale compared to 2K but after all the reviews I really expected PES to be far better than last year. It's not a bad game but presentation is still poor, shots are still way overpowered and it feels a bit too arcadey and players feel heavy. I understand how people might like it but so far I haven't been that impressed. Good game without being brilliant.

As a massive critic of PES since PES 2008.. I'm pleasantly surprised. Only had 2-3 games but I've enjoyed each one. I might get NBA 2K too so that might make me think again about how good the game is.

Played some of the demo and really impressed. Seems like PES is finally back after 10 years

Been playing it with game speed -1 and it is perfect.

Haven't played PES since PES 4, but just bought this today. After years of FIFA playing this is a revolution, at least as far as single player goes. Played a few games against the CPU on Super Star and it actually outsmarted me in attack on several occasions. Stringing together good attacks and scoring goals feels so much more satisfying too.

Will probably still play FIFA for the online modes, but PES is really showing how far behind EA are in terms of single player gameplay.

BTW it's weird how in recent years tables have turned. FIFA used to be the arcade game in early 2000s while PES was going towards simulation, these days it's exactly the opposite. PES is the fun, arcade football while FIFA is trying to be a simulator (albeit a very limited one).

This is going to sound odd but are you sure your playing the game right ?

For most people(Including reviewers) this years PES is the closet a video game has come to real football maybe ever, at least in terms of gameplay. I mean hadn't seen any one describe this year game as anything like arcade football.

Turn up the difficulty or maybe turn down the game speed, that sometimes helps.

This is the opposite of what I thought. I've only played the PES demos in recent years but it feels a lot less arcadey than FIFA

It's the reason why I've decided I might get PES17 instead this time

It definitely looks arcade to me, has nothing to do with difficulty I play at as I usually play online or with friends. Yep I'' aware people have said in reviews that it feels like real football but it really doesn't to me, the power of passes and insane force of shots is straight from an arcade football game. Not really saying it's bad, I like it, and there are a few aspects that could be described as simulation (trajectory of the ball, if you exclude the power) but I don't get the feeling of simulator here, really. The more I play it, the more I like it though and I'm hoping it will continue. Love the OF too.

FIFA is arcadey not because they deliberately make it like that but because they are incapable of doing anything else. Shooting has been completely off for like 5 years in FIFA after they made it right for once for World Cup 2010. PES has these arcade elements because it's a game that originated from arcade machines, they genuinely mean it to be this way I feel. You are supposed to score these screamers and feel good about yourself.

Dribbling is something I'm again not particularly fond of. Players feel too heavy and not responsive.

Ah ok fair enough. Only mentioned the changing the settings as last PES for me felt a bit arcade-ly at the normal speed and changing the game speed made a big difference, also I find that some time playing on Super Star difficulty can feel robotic.

Good that your liking it though.

So the reviews are for the PS4? Most people here play it on the PS4?

Played the Demo today on PC, not that impressed. I like the passing and crossing, but the shooting and dribbling is weird. Feels heavy and a bit slow. Is there a huge difference between PC and PS4/Xbox? I dont feel the revolution or the amazingness, although i just played it for 15 minutes.

Do you play this on regular mode or something ? Calling this arcadey and FIFA a simulator is laughable.

PES is definitely more of a simulation than Fifa.

PC gameplay is identical to PS4 apparently.

What's the difference what mode I am playing this at? Shooting for instance will be identical at every level in every mode. This is not a simulator, neither is really FIFA with its crazy pace of the game though it tries to be with physics (on the other hand while PES allows you to score screamers in pretty much every game, FIFA does not allow you to ever score from outside the box). Arcade elements in PES are also deliberate, I feel.

A game which deliberately allows you to pass at 100 kph and unleash a powerful shot from every inch of the pitch, even if you're standing with your back to the goal, is not really trying to be a full blown simulator, it's trying to be fun. I'm not even saying it's a bad thing, it's very pleasant.

Have they updated this with all the latest transfers?

Also, how do you install the options files for ps4?

You just put them on the pen drive and import in the game. Takes 15 minutes to get everything done. Tricky part is if you want to play offline with your friend, you have to have it installed on at least two profiles.

Of course it makes a difference. Shooting is not identical in every mode. Score screamers in every game when you're being gegenpressed on superstar mode. You get less space, your shot gets blocked etc. No idea why people play these games on easy modes. The highest difficulty is always where the real experience of the CPU lies. And obviously giving it time. My first game was very easy but I've played all types since then.

The term simulator is very subjective. But in comparison to FIFA's monotonous and shallow gameplay PES is most certainly a simulator/realistic.

What I love about this game is how diverse it gets. I played the FIFA demo and every game was pretty much the same. You have the ball and try to open the opposition up. They have the ball and you hold X and pray to get the ball back.

Here you have teams that will play it long, that will play possession football, that will sit deep and defend their box and others that will press you like maniacs. And a lot of that even changes as the game wears on.

Re: editing : it's very easy this year. I've even got Bundesliga on mine now.

But it doesn't change the physics at all. It will make CPU press you but when you get the shot, it will have the same physics, power and trajectory.

Also, why is it that people who prefer FIFA on here can have a reasonably balanced opinion while people who jump over to PES become FIFA haters immediately? Having played both games for the last 3 years I don't really get the feeling that one is much better than the other. Both are doing some things right and some things wrong.

Obviously once you compare either to 2K (which I'm a fanboy of) you quickly realize they are both a bit turd but that's another matter altogether  no one is getting close to 2K Sports.

Yep, teams you play against feel better here. Every opposition feels exactly the same in FIFA, they've completely neglected AI for ages because they know 90% people buy it for online. In terms of playing the AI it's not even close, PES is miles better.

Also, don't hold X in FIFA to defend, they modified their defensive system about 3 years ago. Holding X is not a good way to defend anymore. IMO defending is where FIFA gets it better than PES actually, it's more difficult to master if you are playing someone good but requires you to understand the art of defending a little more than just holding pressure button.

Don't care about basketball and hence whatever 2K does with that sport.

Having a "balanced" opinion doesn't necesarily mean one is correct of course. I could try and praise both sides equally for the sake of it but it doesn't make much sense when there's such a gaping difference in my experience between the two. It's a bit of a warped view to see everyone who doesn't rate somethong the way you do as a "HATER".

For example I'm actually contemplating getting FIFA 17 this year as a secondary football title. So obviously I want it to be really good. But as things stand I see a huge difference between the two, as personal and subjective as it is.

I've owned every single FIFA since 94 and most ISS/PES games in that time too.

What I will start by saying is that for me, PES 2016 did not live to up to the praise in reviews so I was sceptical about things this year but decided to run to Sainsbury's at half time vs Feyenoord and pick up a copy.

This game is a real football game. I liken FIFA to something like Burnout or Ridge Racer whereas PES feels more like Project Cars or Gran Turismo.

Everything feels genuine, there are no signs of built in handicaps or scripting a la FUT and everything is about the gameplay.

Myclub is still completely baffling which is to be expected for a Konami game and needs to be improved and I'd like to see something like Pro Clubs on PES too because my gaming is exclusively online.

I'll still be buying FIFA in two weeks (I don't play any other console games outside of these two) but PES has really stepped up this year and has the potential to be king again.

Y'know these option files? Are they for PS4/XB1 or just PC?

I used to play PES on PC from 08-14 (which involved a lot of patching/option files, etc.) but then got a PS4 and switched to FIFA cos I couldn't be bothered anymore, just wanted a casual game with mates now and again. But people are saying PES is amazing this year.

PS4, PS3, PC and Xbox 360 can have option files. PESWorld is for PS4 only

I'm loving this game so much

The lack of proper edit mode for Xbox One is always a disappointment.

The gameplay in Pes 2016 was great but so many things let it down. Lack of real stadiums, kits etc.

The gameplay appears to be very good on the new one but I'll wait for FIFA to come out before making a proper decision.

Ain't nobaddy gat tahm fo det!
it only takes a few minutes, this was my first try. found the HBO logo on google, and created a quick club crest in photoshop

Haha, cool... I've got PS4 anyway, so I'm guessing I don't have to worry about creating kits anyway?

Another question to everyone who's played the full game - does the gameplay differ from that of the Demo? (wasn't too impressed with it - I mean, it was pretty good - but not enough to make me drop FIFA for it)

This is for PS4, I'm using it for my myClub team

I think the gameplay of PES is very subjective - how does the gameplay pale in comparison when playing online?

Online gameplay becomes very dependant on the speed of servers and everything feels different, when applied to Sports games - the player reactions improve, the game speed increases due to syncing issue and the graphical semantics act differently. I think we need reviews of this game being played online. Though, from what i have heard over the years, Fifa is light years ahead in this regard.
