Pro Evolution 2017

I'll tell you what amazed me that I've never seen in a football game before. The AI had a player sent off for elbowing one of my players in the face and Aguero got booked for diving against me. It's the small touches it does.

I tried to switch to FIFA for a while, just to get my money's worth, but always ended up coming back to this. And since I found a downloadable option file to create classic teams of the past, I can RAWKishly escape from the woes of current United, into my nostalgic masterbatorium.

Though I have found myself increasingly annoyed by the fact David Beckham's hair is almost never era appropriate.

Where did you find that option?

Btw, is this one of the best football games ever? Just played two random serie A games with my brother. First game Torino vs Udinese he was leading with Torino 4-0 in 30th minute, and I beat him 5-4 in extra time. Next game Chievo vs Milan, 4-4 in 90 minutes, and lost 5-4 on extra time. Great fun.

Yes.

I honestly think it is. It's a huge shame it doesn't have a pro club version. I have feeling it would be fantastic.

Can you share the option file???

I downloaded a couple and combined them, then augmented them a bit in edit mode with a few youtube tutorials (you can type 'Andy Cole PES' etc into youtube and find most of our players)...The one I used as my base was this one. It contains a few teams, but I just uploaded the United one.

The kits I mostly downloaded separately. They're easy to find as .png's on google images. (here, for example)...Then you import them as images to Data Management, and 'Paste Image' in the 'Teams > Strip' edit section.

The likenesses are touch and go. Some of them are great, some not so much. Cantona, for example, is almost impossible to find a good likeness off. At least not one that doesn't look like he's on an Algerian terror watch list somewhere.

Now imagine playing someone with those classic teams on FIFA and reaching that moment when your opponent scores a flip-flap rabona goal with Roy Keane and makes you watch in horror as Roy does 'the worm' celebration with a thousand yard stare on you like original Bungle from rainbow.

Feck, that's too much work to do. Thanks anyway.

I only did all that 'cos I wanted a specifically nostalgic 90s team. If you just download the team from that link, you'll get a more than decent side, with the '08 kit as standard... You'll need to know how to import option files, but that's par for the course on PES, and doesn't take that long.

That'll be just fine then. Will it work with smoke patch that I already have installed?

Good thing you can customise celebrations on PES. Though like most normal people, I can never be fecked with the edit function, for obvious reasons, but the fact it's extensive enough for other people to create stuff, and then upload their results for you to download/copy, is a feature of PES that'll always be more valuable than realistic, but unalterable licensing IMO. Admittedly it's too time consuming for the average button basher, but once you know the basics, it's well worth it. My only grumble is that they got rid of the photo scanning option they had in (I think?) PES15...Particularly since FIFA lost GameFace this year.

I have no idea what a smoke patch is...So.. yes?

So I've just downloaded the PES Universe patch. Can any kind soul point me out to how I go about installing it? First time on a PS4. Things are more straight forward on a PC.

The Pro Evolution 2018 Online Beta went live today anyone checking it out?, I have to say the new game has been looking really good from what I've seen so far.

edit: Here's a handy info graphic

Gave it a go as I do every year just in the hope it gets back to being better than Fifa. If it could just play as good online as it does offline versus your mates then it's much better than Fifa.

I think the "no licences" argument is completely void now, the edit feature is so good. Even being able to create classic teams with full kits is something you can't do in Fifa.

It has been a better game than FIFA for 2 years now imo but then I prefer offline play. Nothing is more frustrating than the online PoS that is FIFA.

Tried the 18 beta today, plays quite good. Very fluid.

I think they only people bothered by no licenses are children.

Was just playing this again(The 2017 game not the online beta) and god its still the best football game by some distance.

Was wondering if there was a thread for pro.
Definitely the better offline football sim.
I think they should focus on releasing it every 2 years and make everything completely customizable.

The patch gave me all kits, competitions etc which was decent enough.

Is there a way to take an advanced first touch? Every first touch feels like the player is attempting to control a brick and they are slowly being consumed by quick sand.

Everything seems to move in slow motion playing this game.

Is there any way to get your wingers to cut inside? They just seem to hug the touchline regardless of where you position them in your line up.

Do you have to make manual off the ball runs for every player? The AI doesn't appear to do any auto runs.

If anything the game is a bit too quick and they're slowing 2018 down.

Unless I'm missing something, your first touch depends on how you receive the ball and the ability of the receiver. You can take fancy trick first touched by using the stick but I reckon your new to PES and hence are having difficulties with your first touch. Take your time with it. Michael Carrick doesn't take his first touch with the speed and confidence that a Messi would. Take the first touch in the direction where there is no defender would be my advise. If you're going to be gung ho and try to be Neymar with Darmian then you're young to get dispossessed.

With regards to off the ball runs your team mates usually make them organically. However if your struggling with wingers cutting in try going to advanced tactics and choosing attacking fullbacks. You're fullbacks will push up and the wide players will come a bit in field.

I still prefer this to Fifa. I just wish they'd add more game options other than a few speed settings and give us the option to turn off replays. I spend more time watching replays of saves and fouls and whatnot than playing I think, at times I even end up just knocking the ball around my own half for a while just to avoid pointless replays and having to hit start to skip them.

Also the scoring algorithm is a bit messed up in my opinion. With finesse you'll pretty much score all the time - same with chip shots, without it the amount of shots I have that just whistle past the wrong side of the post even when 6 yards out is baffling and almost like it's forcing you into finesse shots.

Oh, and those infernal pieces of commentary. "More and more and more and more".. Every.damn.game, and at the start when asked to pick a player to watch, Beglin always picks someone on the opposition side, play as Barcelona, Beglin says the influential player will be Mark Noble.

I understand what you mean but I wouldn't say it destroyed gaming, but it took it another direction and innovated the way we play games. It has however killed a lot of enthusiasm I had for games as single-player adventure/story modes have become shorter with attention payed to it. Offline co-op has also suffered, back in the day there were so many co-op games you could play with a friend at home but now its all online and its just not the same. Moreover, online communities are filled with angry 14 year old boys who just want to shout racist insults at everyone.

With all that said, I do think online play is great but I wish offline modes received more love.
It’s alright if you’re playing friends in my experience but I think the whole idea of online has made developers much more lazy with making the game as good as they can as a standalone
