Premier League Matchweek 5 16th-18th September

Last week vs City we had great chance to find them out,show rest of the league,they arent suddenly some aliens (thats how most teams see them at the moment).Instead cnut went full coward at home...now it pisses me even more.

I can very much understand why top clubs and their managers who miss out on the Champions League so don't want the Europa League - it makes getting back into that top four twice has hard.

City are always the biggest spenders and it's hard to argue they didn't need the players in the positions he did sign. At Bayern he spent quite little considering the resources with Vidal being the most expensive under his reign at £26m and only two other signings breaking the £20m mark (Benatia & Douglas Costa)
 
I don't see us as capable of matching this City side any time soon. A lot can happen in a season but we're just so far behind them it would be a shock if we finish the season anywhere close to them. We need to focus on ourselves for now and make sure we do a hell of a lot better than the last few season. If we do that then we can start to think about getting back to the required level. At the moment though, no chance.

The cnut refers to pep right? cause he was the only one parking a bus last week.

Jose cannot be responsible for Miki and Lingard playing like shit.
 
City have always been a good attacking team, even at their worst they always had goals in them. The difference is that with Peps style of playing, their defense is not exposed to too much pressure with them having most of the ball.

Depends on what you mean by the pieces are in place. A lot of people said last season that this City side was ageing and needed serious investment to freshen up in key areas. The Barcelona side that Rijkaard left has also been tagged past its peak and in need of some serious work especially when you consider that the likes of Piqué, Busquets and even Iniesta were far from the established players they are now. What is clear though is the level of dominance Pep gets his teams to show is simply ridiculous and something we haven't seen anything close to in recent times. With Barcelona, there was the legitimate argument that he had probably the best player of all times at his disposal but for me with Bayern, he proved what a brilliant manager he was by getting that team to play with that ridiculous level of dominance against a lot of big teams. Yes Bayern has top players but there have been plenty of teams over the years with top players who didn't play with that much authority or anywhere close to it. If he can achieve the same at City which is too early to say, he would rightfully go down as the modern games most outstanding coach from a tactical point of view at least. Hopefully that won't happen.
 
City may have started well but it's a marathon, not a sprint. Once they choke we will be waiting right around the corner. And they will. Still think we are favorite for the title.
 
City have had an easy start to the season and so have we. If we win tomorrow we are 4 wins out of 5. Unfortunately we lost the head to head but no need to jump overboard already.

True! Which is why he was the most sought after manager over the past decade. Wenger, Pellegrini, Martinez and even Fergie when faced with the best European sides could never get that balance right because it's never simply a question of having an attacking mindset, it is about earning the right to be attacking through not sacrificing too many goals. Pep has proven the best manager at striking that balance in modern times. Hopefully he won't go on to achieve it at City.

I've been hearing for the longest time about how he would find it difficult to succeed in the UK because of that physical, fast, all-out paced style not allowing him to play his game, but if his game is based on high pressing, ball retention and such then it nullifies the all-action english style when they can't keep the ball for more than a few passes at a time.

If Pep continues in this fashion then there will perhaps need to be a tactical shift overall in this country to keep up. I'm amazed by how much better the positioning of City's players is compared to last season. They cover all areas of the field nicely and leave few gaps. I wouldn't have thought Guardiola could have improved this aspect so much in so little time. I think they're going to perform much better in the CL this year than in the past.

And what if it's actually, under a new manager, some new players and new tactics, all coming together ? Even in that game Burnley scored two crackers from 3 shots. We failed even one from 80% possession and a gazillion shots, so a feck up, but not one where we were outplayed, just one of those games where the ball wouldn't go in the back of the net. United have had their fair share too in recent seasons.

We only have one Top 6 (from last season) game between now and Xmas, let's see how it stands then shall we ?

Exactly. We didn't park the bus. Two consecutive games we have been done over by officials. We could have had a draw last week, or even gone on and won. Midweek it could have been a 0-0 draw and things would have looked much better. Unfortunately that didn't happen, so now everyone appears to be suicidal.

You mean the Bayern Munich who had just won the treble? The Bayern Munich that had just beaten Juventus 4-0 on aggregate and Barcelona 7-0 on aggregate? That Bayern lackled dominance against big teams? That Bayern didn't play with authority?

I'd further add that his bayern side got dominated by Barcelona and Real Madrid in two Semi Finals.

Guardiola is a good enough manager with enough of a cv to not have to create imaginary, obviously bullshit praise.
 
Wasn't this thread supposed to be about non united games? Things seem to be all over the place atm.

Midweek is nothing to judge us by anyway given the number of changes made. Had it been the first team losing like that, then I could understand worries.
 
City is playing well although Bournemouth seem a very limited team.I guess that City will have to deal with defensive teams during all the season.
Actually it's reasonable since the punishment could be worse with counters.
Nolito is trying to participate,asking constantly for the ball but can do it much better

After Guardiaola took over Bayern they went from bumming the other elite clubs in the European Cup to being on the receiving end.

I still can't believe that the ref only gave them one yellow in a game in which they fouled us 20+ times.
