Premier League Matchweek 5 16th-18th September

feck off. This is just depressing. What's the point in even trying to win the league now when City just look so amazing.

Although we shouldn't give up. City will have to not play good at some point. But they really are playing so so good that you just have to admire them.

Amazing post, you go from maximum negativity to suitable positivity in 2 lines.

I'm impressed

Don't hold your breath.
I know Mourinho has a rep for being negative but his first Chelsea and Madrid sides played some very good football. We have the players. It is just a matter of finding the right balance.

City started like this last seaosn, hopefully the wheels fall of again

I don't believe we are. I think the question at the start of the season was can Pep adapt to the prem but now its looking like can the prem adapt to Pep. Our XI isn't much better than either United or Chelsea's imho.
That's just wayy too entitled for my liking but I kinda see your point. I just think a lot of teams need to pull their finger out and man up to them. Bournemouth are playing like pussies atm.

Arsenal fans online seem to moan every time he's played in midfield. I've never got that - he's been our best midfielder for years.

I've noticed that, he's a really effective CM yet I see grumblings about him on AM a lot. I think he's one of the best in his position in the prem, helps that he's an absolute pleasure top watch too.

I must say I quite enjoy watching City play.

Their work off the ball is as impressive as their work on it.

Guardiola puts the whole Van Gaal 'its a process' schtick to shame. They are already so different to last season.

Agree with what you have said. Your players have adapted beautifully to Pep's system very quickly. Though having seen your second half performances this season in the league, I expect you to struggle in the second half of the season with that intensity.

This is a big concern for me too especially with our stars injury records.

Because I so feel conflicted at the moment. Watching your rivals play beautiful football and are ahead of you annoys me but I can't help feel that it's a joy to watch. I know I should concentrate on my team but they've already beaten us and look to be unstoppable at the moment.

I understand...I mean it was like a lot of rival fans thought when we were storming it in the Premier League under Fergie...people hated us and it pissed them off, but they often said they liked watching us play the game...

Penalty and red card. Game over in Arsenal / Hull too.

Yeah his quality is obvious, he arrived as a superb attacking midfield, and then out of necessity slid into central midfield. The game against City, where Coquelin came of age, Cazorla actually put in a supreme performance, tearing their midfield a new one. He's been one of the best value buys in years.

I agree with this. They're being shown WAY too much respect by every team that's played them so far.

This City side aren't Barca, or even Bayern.

By the way, Alex, whereabouts are you from? I used to know a guy called Alex Styles, he was a drummer actually.

Compared to some managers the one thing you couldn't label Guardiola is a "cheque book manager". Ridiculous statement really.

Seriously? City were the biggest spenders this summer.. Bayern spent big under his time there and Barcelona spent on occasion to add to the wonderful young players they had. Pep spends a huge amount and nothing is ever said about it.

He isn't at all, but he goes into clubs where most of the pieces are already there. Barcelona had world class players on the books. Bayern were already successful. City had top class players but just needed a better motivator.

Oh, and as has been said he has spent a bit of money this summer.

Oohhh Sanchez, missed penalty.
Why didnt Cazorla take it?

Funny that. I play guitar. From Cyprus. But I studied in London for 4 years. When I come back I guess we'll have to start the styles band :)

Always thought Pep would impose his game on the PL. I've been hearing for the longest time about how he would find it difficult to succeed in the UK because of that physical, fast, all-out paced style not allowing him to play his game, but if his game is based on high pressing, ball retention and such then it nullifies the all-action english style when they can't keep the ball for more than a few passes at a time.

If Pep continues in this fashion then there will perhaps need to be a tactical shift overall in this country to keep up. That being said, if it were that simple then everyone would be able to produce the kind of football he does. Suppose that's what makes him so unique; he's able to communicate and translate his ideas quickly and efficiently, into results and performance. If everyone were Pep, he wouldn't be so special.

I didn't think he'd struggle in this league since the Bundesliga is a vertical based footballing league with direct play.
